UCT/AGV Design and Implementation Using Steering Function in Automizing Port System (조향 함수를 고려한 UCT/AGV 설계 및 구현)

  • In this study, as the preliminary step for developing an unmanned vehicle to deliver a container-box, we designed and implemented Automatic Guided Vehicle(AGV) Simulator for the purpose of Port Facilities Automation. It is preferable to research the intelligent AGV for delivery all day long. For complementing AGV simulator driving, we used multiple-sensor systems with vision, ultrasonic, IR and adapted the high-speed wireless LAN that satisfies the IEEE 802.11 Standard for bi-directional communication between main processor in AGV and Host computer. Here, we mounted on bottom frame in AGV Pentium-III processor, which combine and compute the information from each sensor system and control the AGV driving, and used the 80C196KC micro-controller to control the actuating and steering motors.

  • Fruits are subjected to complex dynamic stresses in the transportation environment. During a long journey form the production area to markets, there is always some degree of vibration present. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. Inside, these cause sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and container wall. These steady state vibration input may cause serious fruit injury, and this damage is particularly severe whenever the fruit inside the package is free to bounce, and is vibrated at its resonant frequency. The determination of the resonant frequencies of the fruit may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs.   • The effect of packaging material in enhancing the shelf life and maintaining the postharvest quality of endive (Cichorium endivia L.) was studied. Endive were packed in three packaging materials: paper box (control); paper box with endive wrapped in high density polyethylene (HDPE) film; and plastic box container covered with high density polyethylene (HDPE) film. The quality characteristics, such as fresh weight loss, soil plant analysis development (SPAD) value, and appearance of endive were investigated during 20 days of storage at $2^{\circ}C$. The endive wrapped with HDPE film inside the paper box showed the lowest weight loss, highest SPAD value and the best appearance compared to those wrapped in other packaging types during storage. The results indicate that the marketability of endive can be optimized with proper packaging and storage.

Comparison of the cultural characteristics and productivity of Lentinula edodes cultivated in different types of containers (재배용기별 표고의 배양특성 및 생산성 비교)

  • This study aimed to develop a new method of Lentinula edodes cultivation to reduce labor and waste disposal. To identify the optimum container for L. edodes cultivation, box, bottle, and bag containers were assessed for their effects on the cultural characteristics and mushroom yield. Among the three approaches, box-cultivation with 7 kg of substrate had the shortest browning period (42 days) and resulted in the highest mushroom yield (1,253 g). Contrastingly, bottle-cultivation was unsuitable for cultivation due to low production of the fruiting bodies and poor quality. Further studies on the box-cultivation approach will be required for commercial applications of L. edodes.

Multi-scale calibration of a line-style sand pluviator

  • A newly developed line-style sand pluviator has been calibrated to prepare repeatable sand specimens of specific statuses of compactness and homogeneity for laboratory tests. Sand is falling via a bottom slot of a fixed hopper, and by moving the sample container under the slot, the container is evenly filled with sand. The pluviator is designed with high flexibility: The falling height of sand, the hopper's opening width and the relative moving speed between the hopper and the sample box can be easily adjusted. By changing these control factors, sand specimens of a wide range of densities can be prepared. A series of specimen preparation was performed using the coarse Merwede River sand. Performance of the pluviator was systematically evaluated by exploring the alteration of achievable density, as well as checking the homogeneity and fabric of the prepared samples by CT scanning. It was found that the density of prepared coarse sand samples has monotonic correlations with none of the three control factors. Furthermore, CT scanning results suggested that the prepared samples exhibited excellent homogeneity in the horizontal direction but periodical alteration of density in the vertical direction. Based on these calibration test results, a preliminary hypothesis is proposed to describe the general working principles of this type of pluviators a priori, illustrating the mechanisms dominating the non-monotonic correlations between control factors and the relative density as well as the vertically prevalent heterogeneity of specimens. Accordingly, practical recommendations are made in a unified framework in order to lessen the load of similar calibration work.

Effect of essential oils and linalool on berry quality during simulated marketing of 'Shine Muscat' grapes

  • 'Shine Muscat' (Vitis labruscana Bailey x Vitis vinifera L.) grapes recently have been greatly favored in Korea, and as of 2022, account for 38.6% of the total grape market in Korea. However, there is a lack of research on post-harvest quality control appropriate to the unique characteristics of 'Shine Muscat'. In order to continuously increase domestic demand and exports in the future, it is essential to establish proper postharvest techniques. Essential oils have remarkable potential as biologically active and environmentally friendly antiseptics for the fruit industry. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of essential oils and aroma constituent treatment on fruit quality attributes of 'Shine Muscat' grapes in order to extend fruit quality during a simulated export period. A cluster of 'Shine Muscat' grapes was placed in a newly developed paper box container, and treated with rosemary essential oil, thyme essential oil, and linalool, along with an untreated control. The results showed no significant effect on fruit quality indices, such as cluster weight loss, berry firmness, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, sugar acid ratio, and color change, but showed a positive effect on the alleviation of berry shatter compared to the untreated control. In addition, rosemary oil treatment reduced the proportion of unhealthy berries. Therefore, the results indicated that the newly developed packaging container along with certain essential oil treatment could be applied as a promising packaging material for table grape export.

A study on the cost state of the stow net Fishery (근해안강망어업경영의 원가실태에 관한 연구)

  • The analyzed results of the actual state of stow net fishery based on the cost expended are as follows. According to the calculation of interests, the total cost of this fishery comes to ₩38,010,653 and in this account, the production cost comes to ₩35,477,198(93.3%), the material cost, 14,567,239(38.3%), the labour cost, 12,740,274(33.5%), the expenses, ₩8,169,685(21.5%), the commision and administration expenses, 2,533,455(6.7%). The expenses for this fishery are paid out as production costs, and the expenses for sale and administration expenses are the lowest of them, and the 93% of expenses are paid out as production costs. The ratio of cost element to 100% is as follow. The wages, 28.4%, fuel, 15.2%, repair, 11.6%, deprecation, 9.5%, fishing gear, 8.7%, ice, 6.1%, container(box for fish), 5.2% administration expenses, 5.2%, food, 3.5%, ship grar, 3.2%, public welfare, 1.7%, commision for sale, 1.5%, insurance for crew, 0.2%, taxes, 0.2%. This fishery is managed with the larger fishing boat than it was and so, it demands better crews with higher wages. In the former fishery, the search for fishing ground is very difficult with long navigation and great fuel consumption. when the weak fishing gears are used, the expenses for their repair and for their gears are greatly paid out. The unit costs of catches to each box come to ₩2.807(₩187 each kg). As the ratio of cost of sales comes to 86.7%and the ratio of interests comes to ₩5,850,812(13.3%), and so the net profit comes to 13.3% of total profits. According to above the ratio of cost of sales is shown as a universal validity, Asthe total expenses comes to 86.7% to the money on sales in the break-even point, the break-even point comes to ₩26,209,168 Accordingly for the profit control the account of production should be raised, and by the saving method of expenditure the break-even point should be brought down for the development of total profits.

A Study on User Evaluation about Package Design of Home Meal Replacement (가정편의식 패키지 디자인에 대한 사용자 평가 연구)

  • While one person household and nuclear family have been increasing, supermarkets began to launch home meal replacement(HMR) promotion. Each brand competes over various types of HMR such as box lunch. In particular, the sales of HMR have been increasing due to one-person households. Experts predicted HMR market will be increased in the future as well. This study presents design evaluation with regards to HMR package design for elders. The methods of this study are: First, research literature review on senior society and analyse the design for both domestic and foreign HMR products. Second, survey on product design for evaluation was conducted. Third, user's evaluation survey was conducted on elders. As a result, containers mostly came in cup or box shaped package designs. The package provided both still and illustration image of food. The HMR design for elders are recommended as follows: first, HMR should be service designed for users. Second, the design should be for elders as well. Third, the design should be empathetic and abundant. For user-interface, the packaging material shall not be slippery and the shape of grip should be considered thoroughly for the elder's design.

Quality Changes of Brined Baechu Cabbage Prepared with Low Temperature Stored Baechu Cabbages (저온 저장 생배추를 이용하여 제조한 절임배추의 저장기간 중 품질 특성의 변화)

  • Although the storage period of raw baechu cabbage could be 2 months at $0{\sim}2^{\circ}C$, 1 month was appropriate considering the quality of the baechu cabbage, waste ratio, and storage cost. The polyethylene container was the most efficient storage container among polypropylene box, polypropylene net and polyethylene container. pH of a brined baechu cabbage using raw baechu cabbage was 4.0~4.3 after 8 weeks and its total bacteria and lactic acid bacteria counts were $10^7$ cfu/g, and textural property (springiness) lower than 50% was at 8th week of storage at $0{\sim}2^{\circ}C$ and thus its storage period was limited to 8 weeks. When brined baechu cabbage was prepared by raw baechu cabbage stored for 1 month at $0{\sim}2^{\circ}C$, its pH, microorganism counts and springiness showed similar trends to the brined cabbage using raw baechu stored for 0 month. However, its rates of change were faster than the brined baechu cabbage using the raw baechu, and the storage period was limited to 6 weeks. Brined baechu cabbage using the raw cabbage stored for 2 months and its storage period was limited by about 4 weeks judging by its indicated quality characteristics.

Medication Reminder System for Smart Aging Services Using IoT Platforms and Products

  • In this paper, we propose a medication reminder system using IoT platforms and products to help old adults keep track of their medication schedule, one of 10 Korean instrumental activities in daily living (K-IADL). An interworking architecture based on the oneM2M standard platform is designed to allow various IoT products to be connected each other through interworking proxy entities. A prototype system for the medication reminder service is developed, which consists of a pair of off-the-shelf pill bottle and container box embedded with an NFC tag and reader respectively, three types of actuators including a LIFX LED lightbulb, Musaic speaker, Microsoft Band 2, and smartphone applications. The experiment shows that our medication reminder system can make alarms for old adults to take their pills appropriately considering where they are and when they have food inferred from data collected from sensors including ultrasonic sensor and rice cooker, fostering them to keep their medication routine.
