  • The elongation of contact length on the line of action is considered with particular reference for roll forming of gears, and for dynamic behavior of the tooth in meshing. However there is no paper that discuss the elongation of contact length in the load meshing of gears. Based on our investigation, the contact length on the line of action elongates more than the kinematically calculated value. In rolling, as the tool approaches the workpiece, the center distance of the gears decreases by a small amount. But, the elongation of contact length is sensitive. Therefore, the contact point on the line of action is difficult to be determined, which complicates the tooth analysis. In this study, the exact relation between the elongation of contact length and the tooth space over the recess or before the approach are revealed by experiments and kinematic theory. This analytical result applies not only for rolling, but also for the single flank meshing which is done under constant center distance.

  • Dip-pen nanolithography(DPN) is an atomic force microscope (AFM) based method of generating nano- or micro-patterns. This technique has been used to transfer various ink materials on the substrate through water meniscus formed between AFM tip and the substrate surface. In this study, the heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydrodecyltrimethoxysilane (HDFDTMS) ink materials were coated on the pre-coated AFM tip surface with the HDFDTMS molecules. When the tip brought into contact with the hydroxyl-functionalized silicon surface, HDFDTMS ink molecules have been successfully transported from the tip onto the surface via water meniscus. The created array and passivation area showed stable structures on the surface, and the transport of ink materials from the AFM tip to the surface followed linear increase in pattern size with contact time.

  • In this paper, we present a finger tip tactile sensor which can detect contact normal force as well as slip. The sensor is made up of two different materials, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) known as piezoelectric polymer, and pressure variable resistor ink. In order to detect slip on the surface of the object, two PVDF strips are arranged along the normal direction in the robot finger tip and the thumb tip. The surface electrode of the PVDF strip is fabricated using silk-screening technique with silver paste. Also a thin flexible force sensor is fabricated in the form of a matrix using pressure variable resistor ink in order to sense the static force. The developed tactile sensor is physically flexible and it can be deformed three-dimensionally to any shape so that it can be placed on anywhere on the curved surface. In addition, a tactile sensing system is developed, which includes miniaturized charge amplifier to amplify the small signal from the sensor, and the fast signal processing unit. The sensor system is evaluated experimentally and its effectiveness is validated.

  • Nano adhesion and friction characteristics between SPM(scanning electron microscope) tips and flat plates of different materials were experimentally studied. Tests were performed to measure adhesion and friction in AFM(atomic force microscope) and LFM(lateral force microscope) modes in different conditions of relative humidity. Three different Si$_3$N$_4$ tips (rdaii : 15nm, 22nm and 50 nm) and three different flat plates of Si-wafer(100), W-DLC(tungsten-incorporated diamond-like carbon) and DLC were used. Results generally showed that adhesion and friction increased with the tip radius, and W-DLC and DLC surfaces were superior to Si-wafer. But the adhesion force of Si-wafer showed non linearity with the tip radius while W-DLC and DLC surfaces showed good correlation to the “JKR model”. It was found that high adhesion force between Si-wafer and a large radius of tip was caused by a capillary action due to the condensed water.

  • In order to clarify the contact mechanism between specimen surface and probe tip in the surface observation by the AFM (atomic force microscope) or the FFM (friction force microscope), several molecular dynamics simulations have been performed. In the simulation, a 3-dimensional simulation model is proposed where the specimen and the probe are assumed to consist of mono-crystal line copper and a carbon atom respectively and the effect of cantilever stiffness is also taken into considered. The surface observation process on a well-defined Cu{100} is simulated. The influences of cantilever stiffness on the reactive force images and the behavior of probe tip were evaluated. As a resuIt, several phenomena similar to those observed by the actual surface observation experiment, such as double-slip behavior and dispersion in the stick-slip wave period were observed.

  • Stainless rolling stocks are usually fabricated by spot welding process without painting. Indentation on the surface of the car body after spot welding injures the beauty of the stainless rolling stocks. In this study, insulated electrode tips to reduce the indentation are developed and applied to the actual spot welding works. The developed tips are composed of head, neck, hole for cooling water, body and resistance material. They provide large surface contact area with the base materials during spot welding and enhance the current density by necking. Experimental results using the developed tips show that small indentation and sufficient tensile shear strength is produced due to large contact area and enhanced current density.

  • Currently A demand of high precision workpiece is increasing in industry. At present, roundness measuring machine using Air bearing, coordinate measuring machine that are used from measurement station. but these machines will not be able to apply to In-line process. because of like these machine's price are very expensive and measurement time is long. also, the complexity of conventional roundness measurement method based on fourier transform, it makes difficult to development analysis program. This work present new architecture of a Out-diameter measuring system fur analysis of roundness of product. In this system, the influence of table motion errors is minimize by using two LVDT sensor and knife edge contact tip. We are produce a test machine and make an experimenter on Out-diameter of test bearing. The measurement result compared with roundness measuring machine.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of nano-contact condition on the nano-adhesion phenomena. SPM(scanning probe microscope) tips with different radius of curvature were fabricated by a series of masking and etching processes. DLC(diamond-like carbon) and W-DLC (tungsten-incorporated diamond-like carbon) were coated on (100) silicon wafer by PACVD(plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition). Pull-off forces of Pure Si-wafer, DLC and W-DLC were measured with SPM(scanning probe microscope). Also, the same series of tests were carried out with the tips with different radius of curvature. Results showed that DLC and W-DLC showed much lower pull-off force than Si-wafer and Pull-off force increased with the tip radius.

  • The plane crack-contact problem for an infinite elastic layer with two symmetric rectangular rigid stamps on its upper and lower surfaces is considered. The elastic layer having an internal crack parallel to its surfaces is subjected to two concentrated loads p on its upper and lower surfaces trough the rigid rectangular stamps and a pair of uniform compressive stress $p_0$ along the crack surface. It is assumed that the contact between the elastic layer and the rigid stamps is frictionless and the effect of the gravity force is neglected. The problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations in which the derivative of the crack surface displacement and the contact pressures are unknown functions. The system of singular integral equations is solved numerically by making use of an appropriate Gauss-Chebyshev integration formula. Numerical results for stress-intensity factor, critical load factor, $\mathcal{Q}_c$, causing initial closure of the crack tip, the crack surface displacements and the contact stress distribution are presented and shown graphically for various dimensionless quantities.
