The industrial-scale biological treatment of Chinese nutgall processing wastewater was conducted with a $200m^3$ expanded granular sludge bed reactor and a $900m^3$ bio-contact oxidation reactor. The temperature of the two reactors was controlled under mesophilic conditions ($32-40^{\circ}C$), through changing the proportion of the dilution water, which was composed of steam condensation water and residual circulating water. The effluent COD, gallic acid, chroma, total nitrogen, total phosphorus levels and pH of both the expanded granular sludge bed and bio-contact oxidation reactors were monitored. In addition, the redox potential in the expanded granular sludge bed was recorded. The total COD removal efficiency was 87.257% when the influent COD concentration was $14\;251{\pm}3\;148mg/L$, and the ratio of wastewater: dilution water was 1:5. The removal efficiencies of gallic acid, chroma, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus were 72.221%, 43.940%, 64.151% and 39.316%, respectively. The effluent pH increased in either the expanded granular sludge bed reactor or the bio-contact oxidation reactor during the operation. The redox potential in the expanded granular sludge bed varied between -367 mV and -435 mV. The results indicate that the combined process was suitable for treating Chinese nutgall processing wastewater.

1 kV high-voltage GaN Schottky diode is realized using GaN-on-Si template by oxidizing Ni-Schottky contact. The Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) analysis revealed the formation of $NiO_x$ at the top of Schottky contact. The Schottky contact was changed to from Ni/Au to Ni/Ni-Au alloy/Au/$NiO_x$ by oxidation. Ni diffusion into AlGaN improves the Schottky interface and the trap-assisted tunneling current. In addition, the reverse leakage current and the isolation-leakage current are efficiently suppressed by oxidation. The isolation-leakage current was reduced about 3 orders of magnitudes. The reverse leakage current was also decreased from 2.44 A/$cm^2$ to 8.90 mA/$cm^2$ under -100 V-biased condition. The formed group-III oxides ($AlO_x$ and $GaO_x$) during the oxidation is thought to suppress the surface leakage current by passivating surface dangling bonds, N-vacancies and process damages.
Contact materials are widely used as electrical parts. Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the Cd exists as coarse oxide in alloy so it have an effect on mechanical properties badly. Moreover, the Cd is an injury material to environment. Nowadays, the use of Cd is strictly restricted. Because of these disadvantage, Ag-Sn-In alloy has been developed. In Ag-Sn-In alloy, the Sn : In ratio affects the internal oxidation properties, such as the formation of the oxide layer on the surface. In this work, we changed and optimized the Sn : In ratio variety for good internal oxidation properties. We have shown that a internal oxidation process did not fully completed when the Sn : In ratio is over 4 : 1 because of the Sn oxide layer at surface. The increase of In decelerates the formation of Sn oxide layer.

A depot encircled with contact oxidation canal has been developed to improve water qualityr. The depot is aimed to settle suspended solid in the flow. The oxidation canal is to contact the pollutants and oxygen in the surface of gravel filter to purify the water. The deposit of the pollutant in the depot is released by the drainage culvert located at the bottom of it. Aeration nozzle is installed to supply enough oxygen to the gravel filter layers in the bottom of the detent the flow and improve oxidation efficiency. From the experiment it is founded that 91% of SS, 39% of TN, 63% of TP and 77% of COD were removed in the system. The treatment efficiency of total nitrogen is rather lower than any other components, however, it would be higher when some floating vegetation is added in the primary clarifier. The depot and oxidation canal system would be useful to purify the flows in the mouth of the reservoirs or at the outlet of the drainage canal.
Nutrients removal performance of a contact oxidation reactor covered with soil was investigated when basalt rubble was used as a contact medium under various operating conditions. The objective of the experiment was to determine the effectiveness of the system by measuring the removal efficiencies of nutrients from a technical and economical viewpoint. Under the ranges of HRT(20 and 40 hrs) in the experiment, the removal rates of organic matter were as high as 97.5% by showing an effluent $BOD_5$ of less than 10 mg/L. The test of nitrogen removal when the turf was planted on the top soil showed that the average removal rate increased as much as 25% as compared to that without planting. It was suggested that the construction and maintenance cost could be reduced over 20% when the HRT of the system was decreased from 72 to 40 hrs.
Milking parlor wastewater contains not only high concentrations of organic compounds, but often animal antibiotics. To discharge the antibiotics to public water area cause problem of antibiotics resistant bacteria. Magnetic separation was applied into improvement of milking parlor wastewater treatment process. A new process, composed of a magnetic activated sludge (MAS) process and a contact oxidation (CO) process, was proposed in this study. This process was evaluated by the simulated milking parlor wastewater (4500 mg/L CODCr and 10 mg/L tetracycline) using a bench scale experimental setup. As a result, the process was able to removed 97% CODCr as well as 94% tetracycline. The MLVSS (mixed liquor volatile suspended solids) concentration of MAS was maintained at 12000 mg/L without excess sludge drawing. This process was considered to be useful as treatment process for milking parlor wastewater in which waste-milk including antibiotics is often discharged.

Electric contacts serve the purpose of transmitting electric signals across two conducting components. In this paper, the effects of contact conditions such as surface roughness, oxidation, and contamination were investigated with respect to electrical resistance variation of a connector in a direct current circuit. Such change in the electrical resistance is particularly important for low power circuits. The experimental results showed that compared with the effects of contact surface scratch or oxidation, the effect of contamination on the resistance variation was the most significant. In order to minimize failure due to electrical resistance change at the contact region, proper sealing to prevent contamination from entering the interface is needed.

Contact material is widely used as electrical parts. Ag-CdO has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the disadvantages of Ag-Cd alloy are coarse Cd oxides and harmful metal, Cd. Then Ag-Sn alloy that has stable and fine Sn oxide at high temperature has been developed. In order to investigate the effect of Te additional that affects the formation of the oxide layer on the surface and the formation of oxide in matrix Ag, we studied the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn-In(-Te) material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. Specimens were examined and analyzed by Transmission electron microscopy(TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS) and Vickers hardness. As a result, internal oxidation was completed even at $600^{\circ}C$. Te forms coarse $In_{2}TeO_{6}$ phase and makes fine and well dispersed $SnO_{2}$ Phase. 0.3 wt% Te shows favorable properties.

Natural rivers have water purification functions called Gravel Contact Oxidation Process, which decontaminate river water by biological absorption, oxidation and degradation on riverbed gravels. This function has been developed and applied to many small/medium-sized urban rivers in Japan as one of the direct river water purification methods. However the method hasn't been verified in the tropics, which have different climate conditions and river characteristics. A preliminary experiment carried out at a polluted urban tributary in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where an increasing attention has been paid to river environment, showed a good applicability to the tropical conditions as a technically practical water purification measure with some maintenance cares for sludge management.
This study is to discuss limiting factors influenced on the removal efficiency of organic materials investigated using the polypropyrene biofilter which appropriate to attach micro-organism in order to apply the contact oxidation proce,:5. The results obtained in the experiment were as follows : 1. In the range o: pH 4.0~ 12.0 was obtained the removal efficiency of COD higher than 85% It was proved that variation of pH(4.0 ~ 12.0) was nothing to do with the removal efficiency of substrate in continuous reactor. 2. Temperature to obtain removal efficiency of COD higher than 85% was $10^{\circ}$ ~$40^{\circ}$. Removal efficiency of COD was no less than those at high temperature if MLVSS concentration was maintained 8,000~ 15,000 m/1. 3. In the continuous reactor, the volumetric loading of COD for removal efficiency higher than 95% had to be 0.5~1.5 kg COD/.d below. And then the HRT was Bhrs. 4. In comparison with the conventional activate sludge process, the contact oxidation process was excellent in removal efficiency, sludge production rate and maintenance.
