In this study, using high cycle fatigue (HCF) criteria, the simulation of rolling contact fatigue is conducted under elliptical contact. The HCF criteria fall into three categories: the critical plane approach, the stress invariant approach and the approach based on the mesoscopic scale. The accurate calculation of contact stresses and subsurface stresses is essential to the prediction of crack initiation life. Contact stresses are obtained by contact analysis of a semi-infinite solid based on the use of influence functions and the subsurface stress field is obtained using rectangular patch solutions. The simulation results show that the critical load is decreasing rapidly and the site of crack initiation also moves rapidly to the surface from the subsurface when the friction coefficient exceeds a specific value for all of three fatigue criteria.
Recently, PM-high speed steel(PM-HSS) has reportedly been a good alternative material for rolling mill because of its superior performance to conventional HSS. This paper has been aimed to investigate the possibility for application to rolling contact element for PM-HSS by X-ray diffraction technique. The X-ray elastic constant for PH-HSS has been found by X-ray diffraction during the four-point bending test. Residual stress and half-value breadth on the contact surface during rolling contact fatigue process by X-ray diffraction have also been measured. The result of this study shows that the application of X-ray diffraction technique to PM-HSS could be as possible alternative material as conventional HSS. Half-value breadth on rolling contact surface by X-ray diffraction is not changed during rolling contact fatigue process. On the other hand, the residual stress is changed. This suggests that dislocation reaction has been hardly occurred in rolling contact, depending on super-saturated carbon in PM-HSS.

In this paper, the decrease in the contact resistance of Ni germanide/Ge contact was studied as a function of the thickness of the antimony (Sb) interlayer for high performance Ge MOSFETs. Sb layers with various thickness of 2, 5, 8 and 12 nm were deposited by RF-Magnetron sputter on n-type Ge on Si wafers, followed by in situ deposition of 15nm-thick Ni film. The contact resistance of samples with the Sb interlayer was lower than that of the reference sample without the Sb interlayer. We found that the Sb interlayer can lower the contact resistance of Ni germanide/Ge contact but the reduction of contact resistance becomes saturated as the Sb interlayer thickness increases. The proposed method is useful for high performance n-channel Ge MOSFETs.
The first purpose of this paper is to study contact CR submanifolds of Sasakian manifolds and investigate some properties concernig with ${\phi}$-holomorphic bisectional curvature. The second purpose is to show an existence theorem of mixed foliate proper contact CR submanifolds in the standard Sasakian space form $E^{2m+1}$(-3) with constant ${\phi}$-sectional curvature -3.
A new contact force estimation technique is proposed. Keeping the contact force at a certain level between finishing tool and the object is essential since the quality of the finished surface is very sensitive to the contact force during the finishing process. However, the contact force measurement cannot be obtained by simply installing load cells under machine table or in the middle of tool linkage. The reason is that the weight of the machine table and the tool linkage are much heavier than the force to be measured. To that end, a method for estimating disturbance is proposed for a system that is similar to the mechanism of the finishing machine, and the same method is applied to estimate the contact force of the brush-type finishing machine. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a small scale test set-up has been built and the method has been tested.
This paper presents a new method for calculating contact position and contact force. The proposed method calculates accurate contact position by introducing intermediate parameters. Accurate contac t force can be obtained by solving reduced equations of motion iteratively. This method can be applied to calculate not only contact force on contact points but also contact force on kinematic joints such as a rotational joint and a translational joint. Four numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
This paper deals with a numerical study of the tribological contact stress distributions of elastomeric lip seals for oscillating shafts when the sealing interference and band width between the lip ease or contact seals and the shaft are present. Using the finite element method the contact stress and band width of scraper seals are analyzed for the sealing interference including some nonlinearities such as geometrical nonlinearity, material nonlinearity and nonlinear contact boundary condition. The FEM results showed that the contact stress concentrated on the contacting lip zone between the contacting edge of lip and the shaft for the increased interference. In double lip scraper seals, ole maximum contact stress of the dust lip, which is used to exclude foreign contaminants is six times higher than that of the primary sealing lip, which is used to contain lubricants.
Dynamic contact of a cantilever beam with Sap at the end is discussed. The gap in a structure induces dynamic contact, and the contact problem is always accompanied by inequality constraints which mean that the solution of the structure with contact condition should satisfy variational inequality. Inequality, but, can be reduced to equality condition considering convex penalty function. In this paper, formulation of a beam with contact is derived using quasi convex penalty function. General coordinate solution which is needed to increase computational efficiency is applied. Nonlinear behavior of a beam with rigid and elastic contact condition was discussed.
Rolling friction test was carried out to investigate the effect of the wear amount on rolling contact fatigue process in lubrication oil. The methods of this process were conducted at two Hertzian contact pressure and three slide ratio in each case by employing normalized and annealed carbon steel. During process of the rolling contact fatigue, the number of rotation until surface damage was occurred, the wear amount of rolling contact surface, and residual stress and half-value breadth using X-ray reflection on rolling contact surface were investigated. The result of this study shows that rolling contact fatigue process was directly influenced by wear trend and was confirmed by change of residual stress and half-value breadth on rolling contact surface.
Contact resistance and contact leakage current of the $Al/TiSi_2/Si$ system are investigated for $N^+\;and\;P^+$ junctions. Titanium disilicide is one of the most common silicides because of its thermal stability, ability, to form selective formation and low resistivity. In this paper, the effect of RTA temperature and Junction implant dose are characterized. The $TiSi_2$ contact resistance to $N^+$ silicon is lower than that of Al to $N^+$ silicon, but $TiSi_2$ of contact resistance to $P^+$ silicon is higher than that of Al to $P^+$ silicon. The $TiSi_2$ of contact leakage current to $N^+\;and\;P^+$ silicon is similar to that of Al contact.
