Consumers' Channel Selection Behavior Based on Psychological Distance Cue: Regulatory-Focus as Moderator

  • As merging online and offline channels into one single platform, individuals could easily and frequently switch between online and offline channels. In order for understanding such unique behaviors, this study attempts to explore why and how consumers choose their channels to search and purchase a product. We have drawn on multiple theories that have been used to explain individuals' judgment and decision making (i.e., construal level theory and regula-tory focus theory) in order to develop and tested two-way ANOVA based models of how both regulatory focus (e.g., promotion vs. prevention) and product types (e.g., experience goods vs. searching goods) including the psychological distance cue separately and jointly affect individuals' channel selection behavior (e.g., intention to use single channel vs. intention to use cross-channels). Our results have indicated that consumers with promotion-focus are more likely to use a single channel in experience goods rather than in searching goods when there exists the psychological cue. Based on our findings, the implication for both research and practice are discussed.

온라인 매칭 및 물류시스템이 역직구 활성화에 미치는 영향-국가신뢰의 매개 효과 (The Effect of An Online Matching and Logistics System on Reverse Overseas Direct Purchase: The Mediating Effect of Reliability)

  • Recently, traditional trade in the global trade market has stagnated in the aftermath of the US-China trade war and the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the global e-commerce market is growing rapidly, presenting a new opportunity for exports. To examine the effect of an online matching and logistics system on reverse overseas direct purchase and the mediating effect of reliability, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on 320 employees in a Korean trade company from March 10 to April 30, 2018. The study model's goodness of fit was tested, and an analysis was performed using the AMOS statistical package. The online matching and logistics system were found to have a positive effect on reverse overseas direct purchase. Furthermore, results revealed that while a country's reliability mediated online matching and reverse overseas direct purchase, it did not mediate the logistics system. These results mean that online matching is affected by a country's reliability in overseas consumers' buying decision process. This study provides implications for the future directions of export companies and national policies to promote reverse overseas direct purchase. Future research including more countries and companies would be able to make further contributions toward the development of the Korean cross-border e-commerce industry.

대구지역 주부들의 농산물과 가공식품 소비에 관한 인식 (A Study on the Consumer Perception of Housewives Living in Taegu Area for Farm Products and Processed Foods)

  • A sruvey was conducted to investigate the consumer perception of farm products and processed foods, and to figure out the future direction of food supply system to satisfy the consumer need. From the citizens in Taegu area, 532 housewives were selected as sample subjects by stratified random sam-pling procedure. The main criteria of consumers for purchasing farm products was quality and the main reason for purchasing imported products was cheap price(48.9%). Most of consumers(87%) thought that food safety of farm products was not belong to safe level. Consumers(79.7%) perceived that the labeling system for the place of origin and for the quality are necessary, but they did not have confidence in the current label. Nearly all the subjects(93.6%) were concerned about the hazardness of residual chemicals of imported products, desired the rigorous inspection system for imported products. Consumers in Taegu area had confidence in processed foods in the following order; farmerbrand-product(0.9%), government-authorized farm product(30.0%) and agricultural cooperative association product(26.4%). However, only 73.6% of the consumers had the experience to purchase farmers' processed foods. As a conclusion, it appeared that nutrition education for consumers on food-decision making is strongly required for the substantial segment of population who are still ignorant of safety of imported product and food distribution system.

콘텐츠 특성요인에 따른 스마트기기 게임 앱 구매결정에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Explanatory Study on Factors Affecting the Purchase of Smart Device Game Applications in the framework of Contents Characteristic Factors)

  • 본 연구에서는 계층분석을 활용하여 콘텐츠 특성요인측면에서 스마트기기 게임 앱 구매결정요인들을 추출하고, 소비자들이 선호하는 게임 장르의 우선순위를 도출하였다. 연구조사는 스마트 게임산업에 종사하는 전문가들에 의해서 수행되었으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 스마트기기 게임 앱 구매결정요인은 스토리(0.217), 명성(0.171), 그래픽(0.134), 조작성(0.111), 정보(0.093), 난이도(0.085), 실행속도(0.068), 캐릭터(0.053), 가격(0.042), 장르(0.028) 순으로 우선순위를 도출하였다. 그리고 선호하는 게임장르의 우선순위는, RPG, 타이쿤, 액션, 시뮬레이션, 스포츠/레저, 퀴즈/퍼즐/보드, 기타, 겜블 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구조사결과, 스마트기기 성능의 발달로 스마트 기기에서도 그저 단순한 퍼즐, 보드 같은 게임뿐만 아니라 복잡하고 정교하고 난이도 있는 RPG나 타이쿤 게임도 충분히 즐길 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.

가상 인플루언서에 대한 감성반응과 광고효과 연구 (A Study on Emotional Response toward Virtual Influencers and Advertising Effectiveness)

  • 본 연구는 가상 인플루언서에 대한 감성반응이 광고효과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 확인하고자 하였다. 기존 연구들이 인플루언서의 속성에 주목한 것에 반해, 가상 인플루언서를 경험하면서 나타나는 소비자의 심리적 반응이 의사결정에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 연구결과, 가상 인플루언서를 경험하면서 소비자들은 구체적인 감성반응을 나타내고 있었으며, 당당함, 청초함, 은은함, 트렌디함, 화려함, 단순함, 소탈함이 대표감성으로 추출되었다. 또한 이러한 감성반응들이 브랜드태도와 구매의도, 추천의도에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 가상 인플루언서를 활용한 마케팅 커뮤니케이션에 실무적 함의를 제공하고 있다.

Measuring the Impact of Competition on Pricing Behaviors in a Two-Sided Market

  • The impact of competition on pricing has been studied in the context of counterfactual merger analyses where expected optimal prices in a hypothetical monopoly are compared with observed prices in an oligopolistic market. Such analyses would typically assume static decision making by consumers and firms and thus have been applied mostly to data obtained from consumer packed goods such as cereal and soft drinks. However such static modeling approach is not suitable when decision makers are forward looking. When it comes to the markets for durable products with indirect network effects, consumer purchase decisions and firm pricing decisions are inherently dynamic as they take into account future states when making purchase and pricing decisions. Researchers need to take into account the dynamic aspects of decision making both in the consumer side and in the supplier side for such markets. Firms in a two-sided market typically subsidize one side of the market to exploit the indirect network effect. Such pricing behaviors would be more prevalent in competitive markets where firms would try to win over the battle for standard. While such qualitative expectation on the relationship between pricing behaviors and competitive structures could be easily formed, little empirical studies have measured the extent to which the distinct pricing structure in two-sided markets depends on the competitive structure of the market. This paper develops an empirical model to measure the impact of competition on optimal pricing of durable products under indirect network effects. In order to measure the impact of exogenously determined competition among firms on pricing, we compare the equilibrium prices in the observed oligopoly market to those in a hypothetical monopoly market. In computing the equilibrium prices, we account for the forward looking behaviors of consumers and supplier. We first estimate a demand function that accounts for consumers' forward-looking behaviors and indirect network effects. And then, for the supply side, the pricing equation is obtained as an outcome of the Markov Perfect Nash Equilibrium in pricing. In doing so, we utilize numerical dynamic programming techniques. We apply our model to a data set obtained from the U.S. video game console market. The video game console market is considered a prototypical case of two-sided markets in which the platform typically subsidizes one side of market to expand the installed base anticipating larger revenues in the other side of market resulting from the expanded installed base. The data consist of monthly observations of price, hardware unit sales and the number of compatible software titles for Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 from September 1996 to August 2002. Sony PlayStation was released to the market a year before Nintendo 64 was launched. We compute the expected equilibrium price path for Nintendo 64 and Playstation for both oligopoly and for monopoly. Our analysis reveals that the price level differs significantly between two competition structures. The merged monopoly is expected to set prices higher by 14.8% for Sony PlayStation and 21.8% for Nintendo 64 on average than the independent firms in an oligopoly would do. And such removal of competition would result in a reduction in consumer value by 43.1%. Higher prices are expected for the hypothetical monopoly because the merged firm does not need to engage in the battle for industry standard. This result is attributed to the distinct property of a two-sided market that competing firms tend to set low prices particularly at the initial period to attract consumers at the introductory stage and to reinforce their own networks and eventually finally to dominate the market.

여자 중.고등학생의 의복구매 의사결정 유형과 관련변인연구 (A Study on the Decision-Making Styles and the Related Variables in the Apparel Purchase of Female Adolescents)

  • The purpose of this study was to 1) segment female adolescent consumers into consumer groups displaying different consumer decision-making styles 2) to determine the consumer characteristics(clothing involvement information search store patronage and demographic variables) that related to each consumer segment and 3) to identify the interrelationship between the consumer characteristics. Decision-making styles were measured by 32 seven-point Likert type scales adapted from Sproles & Kendall and Shim & Kot A total of 78 statements dealing with three aspects of consumer characteristics was adapted from previous research. Data were collected from 567 2nd grade female middle and high school students in Seoul via self-administered questionnaires. and were analysed by frequency factor analysis ANOVA cluster analysis χ2 -test and Duncan's multiple range test. The results of this study were as follows: As a results of cluster analysis and ANOVA on seven factors of desion-making styles(1. brand-consiousness 2. novelty/fashion-consciousness 3. recreational/hedonis-tic orientation, 4. impulsive/carelessness, 5. price-consciousness/value-for-money, 6. perfectionism/high quality orientation 7. habitual/brand-royal consciousness) three consumer groups were identified and labeled as puality-oriented/non-utlitarian shoppers price-oriented shoppers and apathetic shoppers. Quality-oriented/non-utilitarian shoppers showed the highest clothing involvement scores of all aspects the highest consumer knowledge/experience most active ongoing information search and prepurchase information search. They preferred department store and franchise store for apparel shopping and considered service/reliability atmosphere variety of goods as important store attributes, Price-oriented shoppers showed prepurchase information search and planned purchase behavior actively. They preferred factory outlet store specialty stre and considered price very important as store attributes. Apathetic shoppers showed the lowest scores of all aspects of clothing involvement and most passive behavior in information search activities except showing the highest planned purchase. They preferred regional markets.

B2C 고객 관점에서 살펴본 전자상거래 관련 기술 서비스: 한국과 독일의 비교연구 (B2C Customers' Perception of E-Commerce Technology Services: A Comparison of Germany and Korea)

  • 본 연구는 B2C 고객의 관점에서 기업들의 전자상거래 관련 기술 서비스에 대하여 자세히 분석하였다. 특히 소비자들의 요구를 보다 효과적으로 충족시키기 위해 고객 구매과정의 어느 시점에 변화를 주어야 할지 파악하고자 하였다. 본고에서 고려된 10가지 신기술들은 고객 구매과정의 의사결정, 지불방법 및 배송 단계 중 하나에 적용된다. AHP를 활용하여 한국과 독일 두 나라 밀레니엄 세대의 선호도를 살펴본 본 조사에서 국적과 성별 등의 요인이 설문 참가자들의 선호도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 독일의 경우, 여성들은 지불방식의 변화가 그녀들의 쇼핑 경험에 상당한 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라고 대답한 반면 남성들은 의사결정을 돕는 신기술의 도입이 보다 많은 영향을 미칠 것이라고 답하였다. 한국의 경우에는 성별에 관계없이 의사결정을 돕는 기술의 도입이 보다 나은 쇼핑 경험을 제공하기 위한 기업 마케팅 활동의 초점이 되어야 한다고 응답하였다. 또다른 주요 연구 결과는 독일과 한국의 고객들이 선호하는 미래기술에 대한 취향이 다르다는 것이었다. 독일인들은 보다 기능적인 기술들을 선호하는 반면 한국인들은 좀 더 참여적이고 흥미로운 기술들을 선호하였다.

Constructing Athlete Identification and the effectiveness of Athlete Endorsement on Customer's Purchase Intention

  • Purpose - This study focuses on the effectiveness of the athlete endorsement on the purchase intention of customers and investigates the attributes of the athlete identification. The Athlete Identification is defined by the expertise, trustworthiness, attractiveness, toughness and transgression. Athlete identification and athlete endorsement help marketers with a thorough look at the trend of using famous sports player to promote products. Research design and methodology - 450 questionnaires were delivered to respondents in Ho Chi Minh city and 433 were returned completed. Descriptive statistics, reliability, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were conducted to test the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Results - The expertise, trustworthiness, attractiveness and toughness exert positive impacts on athlete identification. Transgression affects negatively athlete identification and athlete endorsement. This research confirmed results of previous studies. Conclusions - The athlete first needs to create their own Identification from a set of attributes in order to be out-standing in the sport and leisure industry before becoming an endorser for a particular product. From the company's perspectives, decision makers should choose an acclaimed sports player to boost the purchase intention of consumers.

온라인쇼핑몰 콘텐츠에서 소비자 동인이 구전마케팅의 지각된 유용성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Research Regarding the Effect of Consumers' Motives on Perceived Usefulness of Word-of-Mouth Marketing in Online Shopping Mall Contents)

  • 인터넷 상에서 소비자는 최소한의 노력으로 정보를 탐색할 수 있으며, 좀 더 나은 구매의사결정이 가능하게 되었다. 특히 온라인에서 구전마케팅은 소비자의 정보탐색행동과 구매의사결정에 중요한 정보원천으로서 폭넓게 활용되고 있다. 하지만 그 중요성에도 불구하고 온라인에서 구전마케팅에 관한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 온라인 쇼핑몰의 콘텐츠 중 게시판을 활용한 구전마케팅의 지각된 유용성에 미치는 영향요인을 규명하고, 지각된 유용성과 정보의 질적 평가와의 관계를 규명하는 것이다. 분석결과 선택 불확실성, 지각된 희생, 사회적 압력 둥의 요인이 커뮤니케이션을 통한 정보의 유용성에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으나 지식불확실성은 영향을 주지 않았다. 또한 구전마케팅을 통해 교환되는 정보의 유용성을 높게 지각할수록 질적으로도 높은 평가를 하는 것으로 조사되었다. 따라서 온라인에서 사업을 영위하는 기업은 고객이 구전정보를 적극적으로 활용할 수 있도록 웹사이트를 관리하여야 할 것이다.
