Preferences for Specific Identity-based Message Type under A Chinese Cultural Background

  • The current research aims to explore which type of identity-based message can be more persuasive for Chinese consumers to form positive restaurant brand attitude based on their cultural orientation, and to examine the roles of brand objective relevance and psychological power state in the persuasive process. The study employs a 2(identity expression focus: warmth vs. competence) × 2(message description manner: identity-defining vs. identity-referencing) × 2(experienced power state: high vs. low) between-subjects design, and conducts an online survey where 240 Chinese participants in total has responded to the questionnaires. SPSS and AMOS programs have been used to examine the hypotheses. The findings suggest that, first, the warmth-focused messages (identity-defining messages) more positively affected Chinese consumers' object relevance than the competence-focused messages (identity-referencing messages); Second, high power-experienced Chinese consumers rather than low power consumers tend to perceive more object relevance at the warmth self-defining messages; Third, brand object relevance revealed a mediation effect in the process of the warmth-focused messages (identity-defining messages) affecting brand attitude. This research offers new insight into the relationships between consumers' cultural orientation, understandings of power, and identity-based consumer behavior, suggesting marketers should take those social influences and consumer diversities into account when developing the message to persuade consumers.

The Extended S-O-R Model Investigating Consumer Impulse Buying Behavior in Online Shopping: A Meta-Analysis

  • Purpose: The online distribution channel has attracted the attention of retailers by potential impact on consumers' purchase intention. The objectives of this study are to provide an insight into how to encourage consumers' impulse buying behavior on commercial website as well as attempts to reveal factors that influence consumers' impulsive buying behavior in the online shopping environment. Research design, data and methodology: The research framework is based on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) framework. The Meta-analysis method carried out the research, gathering data from 37 published studies. Results: The research findings suggest that intrinsic motivations such as perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, and online flow experience play a significant role in boosting consumers' hedonic value when buying and online. In addition, these findings help online retailers use appropriate marketing stimuli such as offering pricing incentives, promotion tactics, and improved communication effectiveness. Also, obtaining a better grasp of how to build a website to improve the consumer experience generally helps consumers feel the urge to buy impulsively and act without hesitation. Conclusions: This research confirms a direct positive relationship between marketing stimuli and hedonic shopping value, which may support an applied theoretical framework for future research and provide managerial implications for retailers in online distribution channels.

  • With the growing importance of CSR, more fashion brands have actively engaged in CSR activities, and consumers' perception of their motives has become a critical issue. This study investigates the influence of perceived CSR motives on fashion consumers' perceived sincerity, trust, and behavioral intentions. In addition, the effect of 'CSR timing' and 'information source' on these variables was examined. In a 2×2 between- subjects design with scenarios, 515 adult consumers responded to an online survey questionnaire. The study identified three CSR motives: value-driven motive, instrumental motive, and strategic motive. The SEM results showed that the value-driven and instrumental motives influenced trust and behavioral intentions. In particular, perceived sincerity mediates value-driven motive and trust. A comparison of latent means revealed the effect of CSR timing on value-driven and strategic motives, trust, sincerity, and behavioral intentions. This study provides an insight into the relationship between consumers' perception of CSR motives and their reactions, and the importance of CSR timing.

  • When globalizing Korean food, it is important to conduct regional consumer research before entering the market so that an effective market strategy can be developed. This study was conducted to compare the perceptions regarding Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean food between Swedish and Yugoslavian university students in $V{\ddot{a}}xj{\ddot{o}}$, Sweden, where regional market research is lacking. As immigration increases worldwide, comparison of consumer perceptions of immigrants and domestic individuals will provide meaningful insight for use in the development of marketing strategies for areas where immigrant populations are increasing rapidly. In this study, six attributes of Asian food, fresh vegetables, low fat, chicken and sea food, exotic ingredient, value for money and unknown food, were compared. The perception of fresh vegetables and low fat of Chinese food differed significantly among the two groups. Because both of these attributes are health related, these findings indicate that recipe modification may be necessary to adapt to the preferred taste of target customers in this prospective market.

An Integrated Framework for Modeling the Influential Factors Affecting the Use of Voice-Enabled IoT Devices: A Case Study of Amazon Echo

  • Purpose: The application of IoT is finding continuous acceptance in our daily lives, particularly, smart speakers are making life easier and convenient for consumers. This research aims to develop and test an integrated model of factors influencing consumer's adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the VAM, an integrated voice-enabled IoT device adoption model is proposed. Gender differences on five constructs relating with perceived value (perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, perceived security risk, perceived technicality and perceived cost) was also examined through PLS-MGA technique. The usage experience of consumers was also controlled in the integrated VAM. Findings: Result shows that Perceived-Usefulness, Perceived-Enjoyment and Perceived-Cost have a strong effect on Perceived-Value. However, Perceived-Technicality and Perceived-Security-Risk are non-influential and have no significant effect on PV. Additionally, Perceived-Value and Social-Influence plays a significant role in predicting adoption intention. Gender differences also exist in consumers perception of usefulness, enjoyment and cost. In comparison to the basic value-based adoption model, the integrated model provides more insight on consumers adoption of voice-enabled IoT devices. Originality/value: Using an integrated model, this study is one of the first scholarly attempt at modelling the influential factors for adopting smart speakers i.e., voice-enabled IoT devices, with implications for improved adoption.

Change in Time Use for Daily Eating and Household Work Activities in Germany

  • This paper gives special attention to the changes of time use patterns of the German population for eating and drinking as well as for household work. It especially examines the changes in time use for meals eaten at home and away from home as well as the division of labour for nutrition provision activities between men and women. The presented results originated from two time budget surveys conducted in Germany in 1991/92 and 2001/02. In a secondary analysis time use patterns for eating and drinking and nutrition provision activities were examined on a base of a representative sample of 12600 private households. Surprisingly the amount of time spent on eating and drinking increased over the period. More Germans ate away from home at least once a day, whereas meals at home were still dominant. Moreover comparisons over time revealed that the share in household and food provisioning work has narrowed between men and women, especially in households with both partners being employed. Overall the analysis shows that time use data allow general statements regarding the amount and changes of time spent on daily eating, household work and especially food provision activities. The extent of women's employment has shown to be most decisive for an equal division of household work between gender. To be able to better interpret the results and to understand the consequences for family life, it is necessary to complement time use data with qualitative interviews to gain comprehensive insight into peoples nutrition goals, motives and barriers of action.

Marketing for Real and Virtual Museums: A marketing Model to Explain Visitor Behavior in Real Museums and an Outlook on its Applicability to Virtual Museums

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain more insight into the explanation and prognosis of consumer behavior in real and virtual museums. The analysis focuses on the influence of the museum environment on the museum patrons (rather than on the influence of the art objects). On the basis of the emotional approach to environmental psychology by Mehrabian and Russell (1974), a behavior model has been developed for museums. The model, which is based on the emotional variables pleasure, arousal and dominance (PAD), is also enhanced by cognitive variabies (learning attractiveness, education standard and information demand). The enhancement of the classical model was necessary because cognitive variables play a major role in cultural institutions such as museums: One important objective of museums is the communication of cultural knowledge to visitors. The model is tested empirically using structural equation modeling. 301 visitors were interviewed individually. Two different museum environments were represented using visual stimuli. The theoretical model for museums can be proved empirically. The degree to which the model fits the empirical data was extensively tested. The model showed high compatibility with the data and could be accepted. The study proves that a model can be developed, which explains visitor behavior in museums. The model shows museum designers how museums should be designed to be both emotionally appealing and a learning environment. Based on empirical studies in virtual stores on the Internet, it is discussed whether the research findings in these environments may be applied to virtual museum environments. In order to create an emotionally appealing virtual museum, it is recommended that one uses a 3-dimensional representation to offer various possibilities for interaction and to create a multi-sensual environment that appears highly realistic.

An Insight of Meat Industry in Pakistan with Special Reference to Halal Meat: A Comprehensive Review

  • Livestock is considered central component in agricultural sector of Pakistan, provides employment to more than 8 million families. Meat and meat products holds pivotal significance in meeting dietary requirements serving as major protein source and provide essential vitamins and minerals. Globally, consumer demand is increasing for healthy, hygienic and safe meat and meat products due to growing population, income level and food choices. As, food choices are mainly influenced by region, religion and economic level. However, religion is one of the major factor to influence the food choices. In this context, halal foods a growing trend, trade estimated to cross USD $ 3 trillion and among this, meat sector contribute about US$ 600 billion. Halal meat and allied products is requirement from Muslims but it is also accepted by non-Muslims due to safe and hygienic nature, nutritious value and superior quality. Pakistan meat industry is vibrant and has seen rigorous developments during last decade as government also showed interest to boost livestock production and processing facilities to meet increasing local and global demand. The industry has potential to grow owing to its natural animal rearing capability, muslim majority country (96% of total population), improvisation of market and consumer preference towards halal meat. Current review debates Pakistan meat industry scenario, production trend, global trade as well as future potential with respect to modernization, processing, distribution and trade. The data presented here is useful for meat producers, processors and people involved in export of Pakistani meat and meat based products.

  • There has been no enough consistency about the question of 'Is it possible for golden section to be applied to product design\ulcorner'In addition, There has been no near answer about 'What is proportion\ulcorner and 'How can proportion be approached\ulcorner About this matter, this study identified various types of proportion through experiment design and consumer surrey. According to the results of this study, various and different types of proportion exist in product design and therefore, proportion in product design couldn't be considered by one-dimensional aesthetic element. This kind of study about the types of proportion could give an good answer abort the matter of 'Is it possible for golden section to be applied to product design\ulcorner'and it's expected practically to give a useful insight to the approach of Product design in Which proportion is considered. In addition, preferred proportion structure is different according to the consumer characteristic, successful design strategy such as niche market penetration could be performed if designers classify consumer characteristic systematically.

Exploring Brand Loyalty through the Analysis of Consumer-Brand Relationship (소비자-브랜드 관계와 브랜드 충성도에 관한 정성적 연구)

  • Studies on brand loyalty have been classified into two approaches; the behavioral approach and the attitudinal approach. The main topics of both approaches have been customers' loyal or nonloyal attitude toward brands and the rate of repurchase generating process. However, previous research has overlooked dynamic and in-depth aspects of brand loyalty. With a qualitative research perspective, the present study adds insight to the current research on brand loyalty, concerning the disregarded aspects of brand, based on phenomenological interviews. On the foundation of consumer-brand relationship types suggested by Fournier(1998), this study examines various kinds of relationship types between Korean consumers and their preferred beer brands. Findings show different aspects and dynamic essence of brand loyalty through the analysis of these relationships. Moreover, a variety of sources of brand loyalty were identified. It was concluded that "actual" brand loyalty and "apparent" brand loyalty may not coincide at all times. In addition, consumers' life events and life themes were identified as important determinants of brand loyalty.
