A Study on the Competence of Consultants Affecting Management Performance -Moderating Effect of Managerial Characteristics- (경영성과에 영향을 미치는 컨설턴트 역량에 관한 연구 -경영자 특성의 조절효과-)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of common competency, managerial competency, and job competency, which are perceived management consultants' competencies, on organizational performance and management characteristics of these managers. The hypothesis 2 shows that the influence of the management consultant capacity and the management performance on the Hypothesis 1 and the moderating effect of the hypothesis 2 management characteristics are as follows. First, common competence, management competence, and job competence, which are H1 management consultant capacities, have been shown to have a positive (+) influence on financial performance and non - financial performance. Second, the characteristics of manager in H2 were partially shown by the common competence between management consultant capacity and management performance. Therefore, in order to establish a corporate sustainability management system and implement it strategically, a consulting firm should select a consultant with excellent management consultant capability and execute management consulting. In addition, management consultants were required to have diverse learning, experience and management plans to improve their qualitative performance. Despite the fact that managerial characteristics represent partial regulatory roles, they actively play a central role in the survival and development of corporations, requiring active publicity so that the organizational characteristics of managers can be understood.

The Effects of the Competence of Consultant on the Consulting performance, Utilization and repurchase intention (컨설턴트 역량이 컨설팅 성과, 활용도 및 재구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • As the external environment of SMEs is changing drastically, it is necessary to establish an appropriate management strategy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of consultant's competency, on consulting performance, consulting utilization and repurchase intention, and effect of consulting's understanding and participation on consulting performance. Participants were 103 questionnaires collected from 154 SMEs that received technology and management consulting support from the Technology Guarantee Fund. According to the practical analysis result, knowledge(β=.377, p<.001) and attitude(β=.461, p<.001) among the consultant's competencies were positively correlated(R2=.623) with consulting performance, and consulting performance had positive correlation(R2=.668) with consulting utilization and repurchase intention(β=.817, p<.001). Participation in consulting had a moderating effect on the effect of consulting performance on consulting utilization.

  • The aim of this study was to test the effect of consultant's problem-solving ability on consulting services. A questionnaire was conducted for the staff of companies that were consulted, the research models and hypotheses were tested by structural equation. As a result of this study, the moderating effect of the consultant 's problem-solving ability and the fit of the research model were confirmed. In this study, defining the problem solving ability of the consultant as an major variable was a new attempt on the research of the consultant's competence. We expect that this study will promote various research on consultant's problem-solving ability and encourage consultants to re-recognize their problem-solving ability. We will conduct research to develop a a tool for measuring the problem-solving ability of consultants recognized as the limitation of this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider how the competency of management consultants and completion index of consulting. influences the management performance. For this research. we chose 500 small & medium enterprises located all over the country that have implemented management consulting in recent 3 years. And we have done survey for the employees. and gathered and analyzed 294 samples. The result of research is as follows. First, Job competency of management consultants have reliable influence on the business performance and organization effectiveness. Second, Job competency and Common competency of management consultants have reliable influences on the completion index of consulting. Third, Job competency of management consultants and completion index of consulting have reliable influences on management performance. Fourth, Completion index of consulting have mediated job competency of consultants and management performance. Fifth, the impact was estimated that the more manager supporting is, the more job competency of consultant have an effect on organization effectiveness. These findings suggest that through the efficient way to perform successful consulting and identify an association between factors, it can contribute to small & medium enterprise management consulting activated.

  • For the successful implementation of IT projects, individual consultant's competency in the project is very important. Especially, 3 key factors which are 1) Learning-by-Doing, 2) Learning-from-Others, and 3) Learning-by-Investment with individual consultant's competency, are required for solving various critical issues which can be occurred during implementing IT project. The objective of this research is to examine the effects of these learning processes on decision performance of consultants. Prior to setup the research model, we conducted 3 times in-depth interviews with IT consultants who have over 20 years IT project experiences. Through interviews with IT project expert, we tried to validate our research model and develop survey questionnaires. Over 100 consultants, who are working at SI companies those of Samsung SDS, LG CNS, SK C&C and other small SI companies, were participated to survey. In the contrary of our thoughts before conducted experiment, we got the interesting result from pilot experiment. Most influenced learning process was Learning-by-Doing and less influenced learning process was Learning-from-Others.

  • The rapid changes in the industrial environment are providing crises and opportunities for small and medium-sized export enterprises. This study focused on overseas marketing support projects, especially effective consulting support for online marketing, in response to changes in the role of SMEs. Through a survey on companies participating in the online export support project, it was analyzed that both the consultant's competence and service quality had a significant effect on satisfaction, and that satisfaction had a significant effect on corporate performance. Also, satisfaction showed some significant mediating effects. In order to achieve business results, the competence of the consultant and the quality of service must be achieved together. This study presents the criteria for determining substantive factors necessary for the improvement of export support projects, and further studies on capacity-building measures for each factor should be conducted in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of consultant 's competence on consulting satisfaction, consulting service quality, and understanding of client firm consulting. In summary, the results of this study suggest that the competency of a consultant influences the satisfaction of consulting and affects the satisfaction of consulting through service quality. Responsiveness, empathy, type, assurance and reliability have a significant impact on the hypothesis. Also, the higher the understanding of client firm consulting, the higher the satisfaction of consulting. In order to further improve the satisfaction of such consulting, it is necessary to enhance client firm consulting understanding. In order to improve the satisfaction of consulting, it is suggested that not only the consultant capacity but also the efforts to improve the consulting understanding of the customer can achieve the intended satisfaction. Further research is needed on how to improve understanding of how to improve consulting satisfaction in the future.

  • This study aims to analyze school management consultants' competency from the perspective of professional and prospective consultants and to draw implications for their competency building and work. To achieve the purpose of this study, an importance survey and a retention survey of school management consultants' competency were performed. The main results are as follows: school management consultants' key competencies are concept, background and principle of school management consulting, process and method of school management consulting, contents of school management, listening and empathy, communication, problem solving, teamwork and collaboration, interpersonal skills, authenticity, commitment. Professional and prospective consultants' perception of school management consultants' competency were different, and importance and retention of prospective consultants' competency changed through the consulting experience. It is significant that the result of this study can be reflected in school management consultants' training and qualification and conform the 'learning' principle of school management consulting.

  • The era of digital transformation is rapidly emerging in industries and academia, including finance and logistics, and the consulting market for digital transformation is also growing. According to previous studies, the need for digital transformation is also mentioned in consulting institutions. In this process, the role of consultants should be changed according to the times, and customer relationship management and attitude toward customers are emphasized. However, consulting research has the point that research on this has not been studied in depth. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop an element of attitude focusing on consultant attitudes in the field of digital transformation. As a result of research using literature analysis and modified Delphi techniques, 'customer orientation', achievement orientation', professional dignity', 'maintenance of expertise', and 'ethics' were found to be key attitude factors. This study is meaningful in that consultant attitude elements in the digital transformation field were explored and developed by verifying content validity, and consultants in the digital transformation field can recognize the importance of attitude and use it as a basic tool for capacity improvement.

A Study on the Effects of Business Consulting on the Business Performance: Analysis of Elasticity of Consulting Factors and a Group Analysis Based on Firm Age (경영컨설팅이 기업의 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 컨설팅 요소의 탄력성 분석과 기업의 업력 기준 집단분석)

  • This study explores the effects of business consulting on the business performance of firms by using a unique survey for various industry sectors in Korea. We attempt to build a consulting model that shows the structural relationship between consulting factors and consulting performance. Moreover, through the consulting model, we conduct the analysis of elasticity of consulting factors and the group analysis based on firm age. First, the findings show that all consulting factor has a positive impact on the consulting performance, but in the results of factor elasticity, they have a somewhat different impact. Second, while the support of CEOs is relatively more elastic than other consulting factors with respect to the completion of consulting projects, the institutional condition for consulting is relatively more elastic than other factors with respect to the contribution to business performance. Third, since the high-firm age group has a greater capacity to absorb and utilize external knowledge and resource, the consultant competency and institutional conditions have a more impact on the consulting performance than the low-firm age group. On the other hand, in the low-firm age group, the result indicates that the support of CEOs has a more impact in the consulting performance than the high-firm age group. According to the total effect, the support of CEOs in the entire model has the highest impact on the consulting performance. Thus, it is probably difficult to achieve the improvement of business performance through consulting as well as the successful consulting projects without the CEOs' commitment and awareness about the consulting projects.
