Performance Effectiveness Case Study of the Machine Guidance System for Dozer Eartwrok Grading Work (도저 정지작업 시 머신 가이던스 시스템 적용에 따른 토공성과 향상 사례분석)

  • Dozer is an expensive construction equipment and has a significant performance impact on earthwork performance. A machine guidance system has been applied to dozer equipment as a solution that can improve the performance. The system can provide earthwork-related information to equipment operators so that earthworks can be carried out with minimum support from surveyors. Construction Equipment Machine guidance has the function of supporting earthwork according to an earthwork plan by providing excavation-related information to machine operators. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance improvement of a machine guidance system for an dozer earthwork operation, and to compare the machine guidance method with the traditional method. The performance has been evaluated in two folds: 1) productivity and 2) accuracy. The productivity shows the quantity of earthwork for a given unit time. The accuracy shows the deviation of grading level from the designed level on the construction drawing for earthwork. The machine guidance system has been applied to a testing bed in a construction site. Data comparison analysis showed that the earth earthwork had 46.59% improvement in productivity as well as 46.96% improvement in accuracy, and is expected to provide a tool for applying smart constrction to the earthwork operation.

  • We have carried out the development for hydraulic breaker which can be operated by optimal mode with ICT convergence technology. This developed system can predict the rock properties. Moreover, this system can maximize the energy efficient with intelligent control of hydraulic system. In order to provide the optimal impact force, this system can measure the descending depth of piston with the proximity sensor and discriminate the rock properties with the measuring data and control the piston stroke using solenoid valve eventually. In addition, we have developed the controller, display module and operating device for cascade (multi-level impact) system and applied the module which can communicate each system by wireless communications. In conclusion, the control system which can control the multi-level impact in accordance with strength of rocks has been developed and approved by several field tests.

Result: As a result of comparing and analyzing the current status of safety management of public institutions, the current status and problems of safety management in public institutions Vith a high accident rate Vere similarly discovered. Safety management organizations, document management systems, safety management systems, and risk assessment activities are operated Vithout reflecting the size and characteristics of the organization, so improvement in the relevant field is needed. Conclusion: Safety-related professionals and organizations should be formed according to the size of construction orders, and responsibility and authority should be clearly assigned. Since risk assessment is conducted formally to prepare a safety and health ledger, it is necessary to derive risk factors to prevent safety accidents for the actual construction. It is expected that the level of safety activities can be improved if it is improved by reflecting the size and characteristics of public institutions.

Development of Detailed Design Automation Technology for AI-based Exterior Wall Panels and its Backframes

  • The facade, an exterior material of a building, is one of the crucial factors that determine its morphological identity and its functional levels, such as energy performance, earthquake and fire resistance. However, regardless of the type of exterior materials, huge property and human casualties are continuing due to frequent exterior materials dropout accidents. The quality of the building envelope depends on the detailed design and is closely related to the back frames that support the exterior material. Detailed design means the creation of a shop drawing, which is the stage of developing the basic design to a level where construction is possible by specifying the exact necessary details. However, due to chronic problems in the construction industry, such as reducing working hours and the lack of design personnel, detailed design is not being appropriately implemented. Considering these characteristics, it is necessary to develop the detailed design process of exterior materials and works based on the domain-expert knowledge of the construction industry using artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, this study aims to establish a detailed design automation algorithm for AI-based condition-responsive exterior wall panels and their back frames. The scope of the study is limited to "detailed design" performed based on the working drawings during the exterior work process and "stone panels" among exterior materials. First, working-level data on stone works is collected to analyze the existing detailed design process. After that, design parameters are derived by analyzing factors that affect the design of the building's exterior wall and back frames, such as structure, floor height, wind load, lift limit, and transportation elements. The relational expression between the derived parameters is derived, and it is algorithmized to implement a rule-based AI design. These algorithms can be applied to detailed designs based on 3D BIM to automatically calculate quantity and unit price. The next goal is to derive the iterative elements that occur in the process and implement a robotic process automation (RPA)-based system to link the entire "Detailed design-Quality calculation-Order process." This study is significant because it expands the design automation research, which has been rather limited to basic and implemented design, to the detailed design area at the beginning of the construction execution and increases the productivity by using AI. In addition, it can help fundamentally improve the working environment of the construction industry through the development of direct and applicable technologies to practice.

  • Although various IT-based services including PMIS are used at construction field, there have been limits on communications, such as fast reaction, information loss, and information security in the real world. Therefore, this paper proposes to adapt a social network service (SNS) that has already been used for information management and sharing information at the company level in other industries in order to support construction information management and communication in a fast and accurate manner. Following the requirement analysis through literature review and site interviews, the paper presents an SNS-based construction information communication and sharing system named PMIS+. PMIS+ was tested and validated for its feasibility at construction sites and it was proved that the proposed system and information management framework using the system could be helpful for effective information management at construction fields.

  • Recently automated construction system is attended in construction domains because of the increase of aged workers and the shortage of the experienced. So, the proportion of automated construction in Korea is expected to be getting higher from partially automated robots to full automation systems. However, it is difficult for the automated system to operate flexibly like the human based on various work condition. In the result, the higher the level of automation in the system is, the less efficient the automated system work in the site. So, it's necessary the development component design to compensate for the flexibility shortage of the system. Therefore, this study proposes the development process to component design suitable for automated construction system using QFD technique.

  • Korean construction firms have been continuing investment of IT for last ten years. However, manager did not support a decision-making of IT because there is no evaluation and feedback system of IT investment. This study is a preceding research of making IT evaluation model as a part of MOCT(the Ministry of Construction and Transportation)'s construction CALS/EC policy and makes a basic frame through a trend and state of IT survey. As a result of survey, To encourage them, IT development to be balanced in each members for successful stabilization of CALS/EC as well as IT evaluation will be conducted in accordance with one's environment, such as a role and level of companies.

Level of Safety Awareness of Construction Workers (건설현장 작업자의 내면적 안전의식 수준)

  • Many construction accidents can be lead to a death occurring at construction sites. These are considerably due to potentially-hazardous equipment and machine or unexpected collapsion at earth work due to land slide and so on. Almost 50% of the total death and injury, occurred in construction sites in 2015. 66% of those serious accidents are due to falling occurring from construction sites when they work. Therefore, causes and recommendations of each accident should be deeply thought and analysed The indirect causes are directly related to safe consciousness of the construction workers. Actually, their safety consciousness are not high, even very low, it is thought. Questionnaire survey sheets have been distributed to Seoul, Incheon, and Gyunggi-Do area, first. And then, the authors have collected those directly at sites, in order to increase collection rate of the sheets. The totally, collected sheets are 295 sheets. And, they are analysed using SPSS version 19 package program. Workers internal consciousness has been investigated and reviewed and analysed by statistical method such as frequency rate, crossed, and correlated analysis. And finally the conclusions for the above analyses are as follows; Heavy weight worth a crew of more than two workers should be necessarily considered for the advanced safety plan and needed for making a highly potential hazard group at construction sites. Safety consciousness, earing p.p.e, workman ship should be mainly considered for investing safety costs with an aspect of human factor.

  • In the case of relatively good ground and construction condition in the deep excavation for the construction of subway, railway, building etc., flexible earth retaining systems are often used in an economical point of view. It is generally known that the mechanism of behavior in the flexible earth retaining system is relatively more complicated than the rigid earth retaining system. Moreover in the case of long span strut supporting system the analysis of strut axial force change becomes more difficult when the differences of ground condition and excavation work progress on both sides of excavation section are added. When deeper excavation than the specification or installation delay of supporting system is done or change of ground condition is faced due to the construction conditions during construction process, lots of axial force can be induced in some struts and that can threaten the safety of construction. This paper introduces one example of long span deep excavation where struts and rock bolts were used as a supporting system with flexible wall structure. The characteristics of ground deformation and strut axial force change, the measured data obtained during construction process, were analysed, the effects of relatively deeper excavation than the specification on one excavation side and rapid drawdown of ground water level on the other excavation side were deeply investigated from the viewpoint of mutual influences between ground deformations of both excavation sides and strut axial force changes. The effort of this article aims to improve and develop the technique of design and construction in the coming projects having similar ground condition and supporting method.

  • On July $18^{th}$, 2003, Incheon International Airport Corporation(lIAC) signed the Construction Management Service Contract with KIDS consortium (composed of Kun-Won Eng., ITM Corp, Do-Hwa Eng, Space Croup) for the $2^{nd}$ phase construction protect consists of landfill, $\#3$ runway, remote Concourse, IAT, BHS, cargo terminal, etc scheduled to be finished by the end of 2008. KIDS dispatched qualified engineers to the Construction Management Division of IIAC for providing technical assistance to IIAC members to pursue project goals in tulle. within budget with appropriate quality level to build one of leading hul] airports for the Northeast Asia legion in the $21^{st}$ century.
