  • About 70% of the data generated on building construction sites consists of unstructured data, such as text, photos, videos, etc. However, the text data, which constitutes the largest proportion of unstructured data, has been restrictively utilized. When using standardized data to evaluate safety performance, there are a few difficulties in addressing issues such as lack of data, omissions, and errors. This copes with limitations on the practical evaluation of safety performance on building construction sites. Despite generating extensive text-centric documents, the previous researches on evaluating safety performance levels using unstructured data are still in its infancy. This study proposes a framework for evaluating the safety performance by preprocessing and refining text-based construction supervision documents. In this framework, relevant keywords related to safety performance are extracted from supervision documents, tokenized, and analyzed for association rules among keywords. Based on the results of the association rule analysis, keywords are selected, and the unsatisfactory or satisfactory level of safety performance is quantified using logistic regression analysis, considering the frequency of their occurrence. While the proposed framework focuses on quantifying the safety performance levels of construction sites, it can be expanded to implement integrated performance diagnostics on-site by linking with tools that evaluate diverse performance levels. This extension will allow for a comprehensive assessment of on-site performance. Furthermore, the framework can serve as a tool supporting practical and proactive inspections and responses of safety managers by utilizing unstructured data alongside the traditional approach focused on standardized data for safety performance assessment.

  • In the construction and operation of large marine structure, hazard risk analysis is one of important factors. Therefore, this paper investigates the hazard risk indexes and evaluates the risk level in the construction and operation of SFT on the basis of expert survey and Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. Hazard risk is divided into natural hazard risk (earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, and ice collision) and human factor hazard risk (fire, explosion, traffic accident, ship or submarine collision). Also, the influence of hazard risk indexes on SFT was evaluated in tunnel tube, supporting system, ventilation tower, foundation, and connection part. As the hazard risk level of SFT is compared with those of bridge, underwater tunnel, and immersed tunnel, the intrinsic risk level of SFT was evaluated. Tsunami and earthquake had higher risk level in natural hazard risk, and the risk levels of fire and explosion were higher in human factor hazard risk. Hazard risk level of SFT was 1.4 times higher than immersed tunnel, and 3.2 times higher than bridge.

  • PURPOSES : This study has been performed with the objective to determine threshold zone luminance of adaptation luminance by target safety level in a vehicular traffic tunnel with design speed set at 100km/h. METHODS : The study made a miniature capable of portraying changes in luminance distribution within $2{\times}10^{\circ}$ conical field of view of the driver approaching to the tunnel for the test. Test conditions were set based on justifications for CIE 88-1990's threshold zone luminance used as a reference by domestic tunnel light standards (KS C 3703 : 2010). Luminance contrast of object background and object is 23%, object presentation duration is 0.5 seconds, and size of the object background is $7.3{\times}11.5m^2$ RESULTS : Threshold zone luminance was set within adaptation luminance of $100{\sim}3,000cd/m^2$. Adaptation luminance and threshold zone luminance based on 50%, 75% and 90% target safety level all showed a relatively high linear relationship. According to findings in the study, it is not appropriate to specify the relationship between adaptation luminance and threshold zone luminance as luminance ratio. Rather, direct utilization of the linear relationship gained from the study findings appears to be the better solution. CONCLUSIONS : Findings of this study may be used to determine operation of threshold zone luminance based on target safety level. However, a proper verification and validity of test results are required. Furthermore, a study to determine proper threshold zone luminance level considering target safety level reviewed in this study and various decision-making factors such as economic conditions in Korea and energy-related policies should be carried out in addition. Additional tests on adaptation luminance greater than $3,000cd/m^2$ will be performed, through which application scope of the test findings will be broadened.

  • In the internet broadcast, efficient and scalable mechanism of multicast is needed for the communication between groups. Furthermore, Optimization of the multicast tree is required to improve the performance of overlay multicast. This optimization is well-known as NP-complete. If a node in the tree has limited out-degree, a user who wants to join the group has to find parent user who has already joined. In this paper, the users who want to join the group need to setup their level using delay test from source node. And then new users can find candidate parent nodes effectively using ACK-SEND approach and take proper position by comparing level. The closer node of the user to root node should be located in lower level. Also, even if a barrier is caused, fast recovery will be guaranteed using ACK-SEND approach. Through this, the newcomer node can fine their location in the multicast tree and join the group fast and effectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the possibilities of blending carbon black, which is known for its permeability as well as its strong heat and fire resistance, into concrete, in a manner that reinforces its strengths mentioned above. Experiments show that in non-solidified, fresh-mixed concrete, the addition of carbon black effectively reduced slump level and air content due to its absorptiveness and minute particle size. It also showed good results in terms of coagulation time, penetration resistance and bleeding level. In solid concrete, it showed better strength than plain concrete. Due to the pozzolanic reaction, its strength became more pronounced over time. At approximately 850 degrees Celsius, the heat and fire resistance level increased in parallel to the level of chemical substitution (by carbon black). Drying shrinkage level appeared to be optimal, and environmental assessment test results related to CO, CO2 and formaldehyde also scored better than plain concrete. In summary, with the appropriate use of AE water-reducing agents, carbon black can prove to be a strong candidate as an ingredient for industry-grade concrete.

  • The unsaturated layers by rainfall infiltration are not properly reflected in construction codes to do slope design. The objective of this paper is to analyze the slope behavior according to the saturation layer increase resulted from the rainfall infiltration, to do that the laboratory slope model apparatus was adopted. From the model apparatus, the variation of water content and strength parameters of the model slope were analyzed. The safety factors of model slope was decreased, if saturation layer was increased from 3.0m to 4.5m, which means ground water level 3m selected from construction codes makes higher safety level. Also, if the ground water level is located in soil surface, the lower safety level will show up. Therefore, to make the proper slope design, the experiments and analysis of variation of saturation layer is needed.

  • In this study, we investigated the errors that students committed in the processes of constructing graphs on experimental results by the students' science achievement level. A test of constructing a graph about 'the relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas' was administered to 7th graders (N=145). Results revealed that most students committed errors in the processes of constructing the graph, showing 12 error types in the categories of 'Misinterpreting the variables', 'Mismarking the graphical elements', and 'Misusing the data'. The students in the lower achievement level had more errors than those in the higher achievement level in the two error types, that is 'representing the bar graph' and 'marking the scale in the presented data order', but the results were reversed in the three error types, that is 'marking the independent variable and dependent variable reversely', 'adding the data', and 'neglecting the data'. In the other error types, there were little differences in the frequencies of the errors by students' science achievement level.

  • Scientific forensic techniques are used to verify environmental impact of groundwater pollution, surface water pollution, air pollution, noise, and vibration according to residents' complaints in connection with construction and civil engineering works. In this study, we investigated the contamination of groundwater and the lowering of the groundwater level in an area surrounding a tunnel excavation site for the Andong-Yeongdeok national road, using a forensic hydrogeological technique. We reviewed the groundwater level and water quality of well GW1 in the area surrounding the tunnel excavation site as well as tunnel construction information and then we analyzed the correlations among the obtained data. Before tunnel excavation, the water level of well GW1 was lower than the tunnel elevation. Considering the relationship between the precipitation, tunnel discharge, tunnel depth, and groundwater level of well GW1, the groundwater flowed from the tunnel to well GW1. Moreover, the tunnel discharge and groundwater levels were not related to each other. The pH of well GW1 was 8.4 before tunnel excavation. During excavation, the pH declined to 8.1-8.2 at the beginning, and increased to 8.8 at the end of the excavation. The fluorine concentration in well GW1 was 2.49 mg/L, 1.91-3.22 mg/L, and 1.7-2.67 mg/L, respectively, before, during, and after the excavation. The sulfate ion concentration was very high, over 2,000 mg/L, before and during the excavation; after the excavation, it was between 200 and 323 mg/L. Turbidity was 1.47, 10.5, and 4.51 NTU before, during, and after tunnel excavation, respectively. Therefore, the excavation of this tunnel is not related to the groundwater quality of well GW1.

  • The purpose of the high-speed railway construction is to better satisfy passenger travel demands. Accordingly, the design of the train working plan must also take a full account of the interests of passengers. Aiming at problems, such as the complex transport organization and different speed trains coexisting, combined with the existing research on the train working plan optimization model, the multiobjective bi-level programming model of the high-speed railway passenger train working plan was established. This model considers the interests of passengers as the center and also takes into account the interests of railway transport enterprises. Specifically, passenger travel cost and travel time minimizations are both considered as the objectives of upper-level programming, whereas railway enterprise profit maximization is regarded as the objective of the lower-level programming. The model solution algorithm based on genetic algorithm was proposed. Through an example analysis, the feasibility and rationality of the model and algorithm were proved.
