  • Cold-formed steel (CFS) sections are becoming an increasingly popular solution for constructing floors in residential, healthcare and education buildings. Their reduced weight, however, makes them prone to excessive vibrations, increasing the need for accurate prediction of CFS floor modal properties. By combining experimental modal analysis of a full-scale CFS framed building and its floors and their numerical finite element (FE) modelling this paper demonstrates that the existing methods (based on the best engineering judgement) for predicting CFS floor modal properties are unreliable. They can yield over 40% difference between the predicted and measured natural frequencies for important modes of vibration. This is because the methods were adopted from other floor types (e.g., timber or standard steel-concrete composite floors) and do not take into account specific features of CFS floors. Using the adjusted and then updated FE model, featuring semi-rigid connections led to markedly improved results. The first four measured and calculated CFS floor natural frequencies matched exactly and all relevant modal assurance criterion (MAC) values were above 90%. The introduction of flexible supports and more realistic modelling of the floor boundary conditions, as well as non-structural $fa{\c{c}}ade$ walls, proved to be crucial in the development of the new more successful modelling strategy. The process used to develop 10 identified and experimentally verified FE modelling parameters is based on published information and parameter adjustment resulting from FE model updating. This can be utilised for future design of similar lightweight steel floors in prefabricated buildings when checking their vibration serviceability, likely to be their governing design criterion.

  • Starting in modern times by Le Corbusier, architectures made by concretes are still developing in these times. For several decades, the shape of box architecture has been the most familiar type of buildings. Of course "The concrete is the type of box building" isn't always right, but what we have most seen was the buildings which has been stylized and made by concretes. Through modern times to these days based on international style and functionalism, the type of box building was the most effective and good profit type of architecture which has not disregarded the capitalism. Free-form building are becoming a common place, and many of these are designed and constructed using sophisticated techniques. The main technique being used is Generative Technology of Form for free-form construction. People's interest is growing in this, and it is becoming widely used both abroad and domestically. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of Generative Technology of Form which is a digitally adapted design methodology in architecture. The digital design process used for contemporary buildings share many typical features that exist within a standard digital template, but also an increasing amount of mass customization that has to be produced at an additional cost. This paper will summarize these features in terms of free-form architecture, and in terms of the digital design process. In fact, 3D models have to be conceded as main design products considering features of Free Form Design Architecture. However it is practical to design twice over, because all forms of architectural drawings are 2D. From now on, design of Free Form Design Building is not to separate between design process and practical process, but to compound them as unified design system applied the process to communicate information interactively. For this, it should be required to impose unified digital design process and perform researches about effective way to apply in the field of Free-form Design Architecture.

  • Head-related transfer function (HRTF) is an acoustic transfer function from a sound source to the ear canal entrance position. HRTFs are very important information in the construction of virtual sound fields. HRTFs also vary for different individuals. In this study, characteristics of HRTF for an average Korean are investigated numerically by comparing with the HRTF for a standard Knowles Electronics Manikin for Acoustic Research (KEMAR). A boundary element (BE) model for an adult Korean is developed using the computerized tomography (CT) data in order to investigate the variation in HRTFs for different individuals. The boundary conditions of the BE model are identified by comparing the numerical results with the experimental results. The numerical model shows that accurate HRTFs can be calculated efficiently over full audible frequency range for individuals.

  • The multi-channel analog signal to digital signal conversion is increasing in the field of IoT and medical measurement equipments. It has chip area and power consumption constraints to use a few single or 2_channel ADC for multi_channel application. This paper described to design and implement a proposed comb filter for multi-channel, 24bit ADC. The function of proposed comb filter is verified by matlab simulation and the FPGA test board. It was fabricated using SK Hynix 0.35㎛ CMOS standard process. The performance and chip size is compared with the existing design method that uses integrator/differentiator and FIR construction. The proposed comb filter is expected to use the IoT product and medical measurement equipments that require multi-channel, low power consumption and small hardware size.

  • The cables installed to deliver high electric power from a generator at a thermoelectric power station are XLPE (or CV) cables. Depending on the installation and usage conditions, the cables in operation start deteriorating from the time of initial operation. Some cables can cause accidents due to faulty construction or other environmental factors. In order to prevent cable accidents, regular auditing of power cables is required. We have invented a measuring device for systematic surveillance and prevention of accidents, and installed the device at Korean Western Power Co. Ltd. which measures load currents through the cables. In this paper, we present the load current measured using our device, analyze the load characteristics by measures current, compare the ampacity defined by IEC standard, and present a basic data to obtain the temperature of cable conductors.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a processing element that will be used as a component in the construction of a two dimensional systolic for FFT. The chip performs data shuffling and radix-2 decimation-in-time (DIT) butterfly arithmetic. It consists of a data routing unit, internal control logic and HBA unit which computes butterfly arithmetic. The 6.5K transistors processing element designed with standard cells has been fabricated with a 2u'm double metal CMOS process, and evaluated by wafer probing measurements. The measured characteristics show that a HBA can be computed in 0.5 usec with a 20MHz clok, and it is estimated that the FFT of length 1024 can be transformed in 11.2 usec.

  • This study was performed to reuse the dyeing wastewater sludge treated by Fenton process through the solidification/stabilization technique. To solidify the dyeing sludge the industrial by-products such as blast furnace slag, fly ash and waste sand with cement were used. The laboratory scale and pilot scale test were conducted at room temperature to make construction brick which has high compressive strength and low leaching of heavy metals. The experimental results showed that blast furnace slag and fly ash could be used instead of cement and the products satisfied the regulation of Korean Standards. The blast furnace slag increased the compressive strength and the optimum ratio of slag/dyeing sludge on dry basis was found 0.4. The solidifying agent of SB series could increase rapidly the compressive strength and the optimum ratio of solidifying agent/sludge on dry basis was 0.26 at which the strength was two times compared with non-added condition. The portion of waste and industrial by-products in matrix was over 80%. From the pilot test the optimum pressure in molding was 100kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at which the compressive strength was over 100kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. And the strength increased continuously to 160kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ until 120 days curing time due to pozzolanic reaction. When SB-20 as a solidifying agent was used, the unconfined compressive strength of dyeing sludge could be obtained 110kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ which satisfied the regulation of cement brick in Korea Standard(KS).

  • On July 2004, the brand new CASBEE for construction (Brief version) has completed while trying to highlight and improve major items adequate for each region's characteristics in Japan; at the same time, from the start of NAGOYA CITY (operated since April 2004) to the point of May 2011, it has been mandatory for specified size buildings in 23 regions by law. Evaluation sheet of CASBEE is published on each region's home page and various genre of information on building evaluation which is scheduled to be completed by 2016 and is for 5-6 years of quantity is accumulated until October 2012. It is good study resource to verify how new buildings being evaluated are closely match with CASBEE's original purport (eco-friendly, energy efficiency, publicity etc). Particularly, for Japan's multi-family housing where small sized mid to high level single housing type is majority in city, it is an important point that improved performance on eco-friendly buildings have more value in city rather than suburb. Categorized score through evaluation is a resource to confirm the latest trend of multi-family housing built in congested city; on the other hand, demand of the time can be recognized by the score focused on category. It is meaningful resource to determine the adequacy of evaluated items and the degree of reality.

  • Over the past few years, a number of studies have been made on web map services which enable the GIS user to access spatial data through the web. They, however. have focused on only implementation techniques separately, such at map client implementation map server implementation, communication between client and server, and the map data representation. Therefore, it is hard to share and practical use the spatial data, because they does not ensure interoperability in heterogeneous map servers. In this paper, In this paper, we have designed and implemented the web map server with open architecture. which complies with the standard interfaces proposed by OpenGIS Consortium (OGC). In particular, we have extended the OGC's Interfaces for a map server to support one or more data sources. This paper has contributed to construction and practical use of web map services by newly proposing the method of implementation of a map server. which could be reused regardless of the types of data sources.

  • A Q-Q plot is an effective and convenient graphical method to assess a distributional assumption of data. The primary step in the construction of a Q-Q plot is to obtain a closed-form expression to represent the relation between observed quantiles and theoretical quantiles to be plotted in order that the points fall near the line y = a + bx. In this paper, we introduce a Q-Q plot to assess goodness-of-fit for inverse Gaussian distribution. The procedure is based on the distributional result that a transformed random variable $Y={\mid}\sqrt{\lambda}(X-{\mu})/{\mu}\sqrt{X}{\mid}$ follows a half-normal distribution with mean 0 and variance 1 when a random variable X has an inverse Gaussian distribution with location parameter ${\mu}$ and scale parameter ${\lambda}$. Simulations are performed to provide a guideline to interpret the pattern of points on the proposed inverse Gaussian Q-Q plot. An illustrative example is provided to show the usefulness of the inverse Gaussian Q-Q plot.
