For housing estate of a new administrative capital city, Noise reduction method is a important design factor. As measuring a noise level of traffic noise according to separation from road, it can be created a quite housing estate. Analyzing of merits and demerits in sound barrier walls and tunnels can be proposed environment friendly soundproofing facilities. Number of measurement was performed to know what kind of layout of housing estate is good for noise reduction. Through this measurement, ㄷ shaped layout or parallel layout has the advantage of sound insulation rather than right angled layout. In this case (ㄷ shaped layout or parallel layout) buildings neighboring to the road should be designed to insulate sound. Evergreen trees should be planted between housing estate and road more than 30m (at least 7~8m) in order to reduce noise and have masking effects. If broad-leaved trees are planted more than 30m, approximately 10dB noise is reduced and 2~4dB if 7~8m. Roads in the estate should be designed considering pedestrians first, and special roads for moving and ambulance should be designed as skew road, if possible. The result shows that 15$^{\circ}$-sloped‘S’road reduces 1~2dB noise and 30$^{\circ}$-sloped road reduces 4~7dB. If noise barrier is inevitably installed, it should be designed to go well wit neighboring environment so as to install Environment Friendly Noise Barrier using materials and trees including wood and soil. Through this study the results are used to guideline for construction of environment friendly housing estate

Environmental issues resulting from climate change and energy crises have become global issues, and cycling has gained greater popularity for sustainable transportation. Though many cities are trying to build bicycle roads, it is not easy to implement bicycle roads because there is little available space for bicycle facilities. Therefore, road diets have become more popular in Korea. However, there has been no intensive research to date of their impacts. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effects of road diets and construction of bike lanes. Every benefit, including energy benefit, environmental benefit, and health benefit is considered, while only time savings benefit has been considered in previous studies. The benefit analysis for the Seoul metropolitan area as a case study shows that road diets have a (1) time saving benefit for only five percent of the mode share and (2) enough total benefit even if bicycle mode share is less than two percent.

Most of biological treatment to remove contaminants in municipal wastewater have been conducted by activated sludge process. But, the process have several probIems such as enormous site needed for construction of treatment facilities, unstable treatment due to limited ability to control load fluctuation, frequent sludge bulking and appearance of lots of surplus sludge. In this study, the experiments were performed through submerging biofilm of PEPP media in existing aeration tank with raw water from municipal wastewater treatment plant and then submerging PVDC and PEPP media, different from shape and chemical peculiarity in anoxic reactor. Throughout the experience, nutrient removal efficiency according to HRT, nitrogen phosphorous removal efficiency, behavior of nitrogen and dewatering efficiency have been compared and analysed with those of activated sludge process. As the results, BOD removal efficiency according to BOD volumetric load and F/M ratio was not found any differency in two processes, but was decreased below 90% as going along the condition of high load in activated sludge process. Kinetic coefficient was $K_{max}=1.162day^{-1}$, $K_s=53.77mg/L$, $Y=0.166mgVSS/mgBOD_{rem}$. and $K_d=0.019day^{-1}$. It was found that the removal efficiency, even though in aerobic condition, in biofilm process equipped anoxic reactor was higher than the one in activated sludge process within the range of 70~80%, and became better as HRT increased. Phosphorous removal efficiency was not found any differency in two processes. In biofilm process, treament efficiency even in conditions of high load was not decreased, because the biomass concentration could be maintained in high condition compared with activated sludge process. As HRT increased, suspended and attached biomass was increased and the other hand, F/M ratio was decreased as biomass' increasing. Biomass thickness was increased. from $10.43{\mu}m$ to $10.55{\mu}m$ as HRT increased and density of biomass within $40.79{\sim}41.16mg/cm^2$. The results also present that the dewatering efficiency of sludge generated in biofilm process was higher than in activated sludge process, and became better as HRT increased.

With the growing use of big data and data mining, it serves to understand how such techniques can be used to understand various relationships in the healthcare field. This study uses hierarchical methods of data analysis to explore similarities in hospitalization across several New York state counties. The study utilized methods of measuring crowding distance of data for age-specific hospitalization period. Crowding distance is defined as the longest distance, or least similarity, between urban cities. It is expected that the city of Clinton have the greatest distance, while Albany the other cities are closer because they are connected by the shortest distance to each step. Similarities were stronger across hospital stays categorized by age. Hierarchical clustering can be applied to predict the similarity of data across the 10 cities of hospitalization with the measurement of crowding distance. In order to enhance the performance of hierarchical clustering, comparison can be made across congestion distance when crowding distance is applied first through the application of converting text to an attribute vector. Measurements of similarity between two objects are dependent on the measurement method used in clustering but is distinguished from the similarity of the distance; where the smaller the distance value the more similar two things are to one other. By applying this specific technique, it is found that the distance between crowding is reduced consistently in relationship to similarity between the data increases to enhance the performance of the experiments through the application of special techniques. Furthermore, through the similarity by city hospitalization period, when the construction of hospital wards in cities, by referring to results of experiments, or predict possible will land to the extent of the size of the hospital facilities hospital stay is expected to be useful in efficiently managing the patient in a similar area.
Recently, underground cavities such as limestone cavity and abandoned mine give rise to a lot of damage in SOC facilities. But there are many difficult problems such as delay of the working terms and enormous economic losses in finding a new method and changing construction design. In this study, a new filling material for underground cavities was developed using the stone-dust classified as industry waste polluting environment. As a result of test, filling material properties was that a compressive strength was $34{\~}60\;kgf/cm^2$, a change ratio in length was $0.268{\~}0.776\%$ and water absorption was $34.3{\~}46.9\%$. Also as a result of suspended mass test and pH test, it was confirmed that the developed filling material has a characteristic of non-separating in water and it was an environmentally friendly material.
The purpose of this study was to determine the incomplete aspects of the government pilot project 'Livable City Making' Also, the study was conducted to consider a plan that residents will satisfy for the realization of the project. The study used a case study and a survey method in research process. For the case study, two projects in Busan that have similar planning were chosen. The contents of the survey included the residents' interest in their housing area, their recognition and opinions of the pilot project, their satisfaction about the environmental alterations, and their thought about conditions of sustainable housing. The main results of this study were as follows. First, the residents were satisfied with the alteration of the street space and the provision of green and open spaces. Meanwhile they revealed that the preservation of the natural environment and the vitalization of community are insufficient. Second, they also believed that the construction of the pedestrian streets, the provision of parking lots, and the remodeling of the deteriorated buildings are incomplete. Third, the residents believed that the following provisions need to be made for successful sustainable housing waste discharge needs to be minimized, facilities need to be used for saving energy, opportunities for employment need to be provided within their housing areas, and safe street spaces and comfortable traffic systems need to be provided.

As the population of the elderly increases drastically year by year in Korea, the more welfare centers for them are greatly needed. There are, however, a small number of public geriatric hospitals currently available. And a limited number of private-founded geriatric centers are under construction throughout the country. And the systematic standards for the spacial composition and departmental area distribution for them are not satisfactorily set up yet. The analytical study of the space composition and area distribution of the hospitals in question shows that publicly-shared spaces, such as day-room and lobby, are much more useful for their communications than private spaces, such as shut-in living rooms. It also shows that in-yards or in-gardens which are located in the center of the wards are very helpful for their comfortable long-term hospitalization. The shared spaces are recommended to be in sight of and within earshot of their caretakers. In relation with out-patient departments, the programs for the local elderly residents, such as the day-care center and recreation facilities are recommended to be prepared for their physical care and emotional treatment at a time by municipal welfare centers rather than by private institutions. The analytic study carried out in terms of departmental area distributions reveals that the areas for the wards are generally wider and areas for out-patient/or diagnosis departments are relatively narrower than those in the general hospitals. These area distributions seem to have come from the considerations of their relatively long-term staying in the centers than general hospitals and their mental stability as well.
With the development of IT convergence technology and the construction of infrastructure for water leakage detection, the detection technology of damaged pileline's location and size is being spotlighted. The exhaustion of water resource due to the leakage of water supply facilities renders it urgent to detect water leakage effectively. In this paper, we proposed the water leakage detection monitoring simulation using the power spectrum analysis. We measured the reflected wave signal by the proposed water leakage detection monitoring simulation. The rate variability is calculated form the acquired reflected wave signal. And the power spectrum analysis using the Fast Fourier Transform is evaluated the correlation between the water leakage's size and the reflected wave. Ultimately, this paper suggests empirical simulation to verify the adequacy and the validity. Accordingly, the satisfaction and the quality of services will be improved the efficient management by supporting the real-time water leakage detection.
The purpose of this study is to research the actual condition of environment and management of outdoor play at child care centers in Seoul, and to present a planning guideline for outdoor play environment. For this purpose, data were collected by a structured questionnaire and subjects were 164 directors of child care centers located in Seoul. The contents of the questionnaire were composed of general facts about the respondent and facility, environmental condition, managerial condition, and director's understanding about outdoor play. The data were then analyzed using the frequency, percentage, mean and crosstab. The major results have shown the following: 1) Most child care centers in Seoul had some space for outdoor play. 62% of them used front yard and 11 % a rooftop. 2) The space usually included fixed play instruments such as slide and complex unit structures, sand play area, and open area. It also had many natural elements as shrubs and earth. 3) 78% of the centers had a schedule for outdoor play. The schedule operates flexibly according to each center's own day schedule. Generally, a time for outdoor play was 21 to 30 minutes. 4) The directors of child care centers thought highly of outdoor play for it contributes to the balanced development of children. They answered that equipments and spaces, program devices, and teacher's understanding are some of the important factors for active outdoor play. 5) Most of them wanted wood-working area (construction activity area), water play area, and cages.
The measuring point of the Hangang Bridge affected by tide has some special topographic characteristics due to Nodle Island. Furthermore the submerged weirs located on the upstream and downstream. Therefore flow is separated and joined by Nodle Island. Discharge measurement at the point of the Hangang Bridge is very important, because Hangang Bridge is key station in managing the discharge and flood forecasting. In the past, it was too difficult to measure discharge in tidal conditions. HRFCO(Han River Flood Control Office) installed automatic discharge measurement facilities for solving this problem. Measuring equipments operates and measures discharge every 10 minutes at 2 points(southern and northern section close to Nodle Island), and calculates flow discharge using Chiu's velocity law(Chiu, 1988). In order to verify the results of automatic discharge measurements, manual discharge measurements were carried out by ADCP. In addition, the monthly discharge were also compared.
