This type of research is an associative and explanatory research whose data is obtained through a questionnaire survey. This study took a sample of 305 respondents using probability sampling in Langkat Regency, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Data analysis techniques use path analysis. The research results showed that the road transportation infrastructure variables had a significant and positive effect on the mobility of goods transport. Road transportation infrastructure and freight mobility simultaneously have a significant and positive effect on the economy of Langkat Regency. Road transportation infrastructure with the dimensions of road accessibility and maintenance partially directly has a significant and positive effect on the economy of the Langkat Regency. Road transportation infrastructure with the dimensions of road design and road construction quality partially does not have a direct effect on the regional economy, but has a positive and significant effect through the mobility of freight transport. The mobility of goods transport becomes an intervening variable that acts to mediate or determine the relationship between road transportation infrastructure variables to the regional economy.

  • The construction industry has been leading the growth of the nation's economy not only by providing with various infrastructure projects but also by positively impaction related industries such as crating numerous job opportunities. Relevant statistics show the production amount of construction taking about 17.5% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product). In spite of its positive impacts on the economy, image of Korea construction industry is generally reflected as negative mainly because of its environmental disruption, low payment, bribe, fraudulent work and inefficiency. It brings students to be reluctant choosing the construction industry as their carrier path and governmental and principal research status. Therefore it has been difficult to recruit highly qualitied human resources to the industry while the morale of the whole industry has gradually become demoralized. To improve this stand, many domestic researchers carried out research projects for improving the image of Korea Construction Industry. This study also sympathizes with necessity of improving the negative image of construction industry to remain as one of the leading industry in the 21st century. Especially, this study focused on finding important factors which have significant influences on the image of the industry. Through out the research, image influence factors was identified by rigorous literature review and interviews as industrial and academic experts. Factors, then, categorized and used as the main framework for the survey which designed to fine the degree of impacts on the image of the construction industry. In analyzing the survey results, various statistical techniques was employed including factor analysis, Chi-Square-Test, Correlation Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression. Identified as the most influent factors to the image of the construction industry include morale of construction employee, and prospects the industry which of the judgement by payment, impacts on nation's economy, future of the industry, etc.

  • Korean construction companies are recently facing stiff competition in free market economy, and construction projects tend to be complex and large-scale. Such an environment demands that construction companies ensure specialized subcontractors. This paper suggested a subcontractor evaluation model for selection of competent subcontractors which are equipped with operational, technical and productive ability. For designing a subcontractor model, AHP method as a group decision-marking method is applied in assigning weighting indices of evaluation elements. To verify this method, actual data collected in one of construction companies are analysed statistically.

  • Introduced was a new anti-corrosive method with improved ease of construction, economy, and durability that could be applicable for steel-composite drilled shaft. The feasibility and economy of sea-water-resistant steel was evaluated under the assumption that it was to substitute carbon steel for steel casing of drilled shaft foundation as a load carrying structural member not just as a sacrifice casing, and that anti-corrosive protection measures as required by the domestic standards was applied. Sea-water-resistant steel was found to cost 30% to 55% more, depending on pile diameter and the type of applied anti-corrosive measures, than carbon steel for the service life time of 70 years: 50% to 90% more for 100 years of service life.

  • Whereas fuel economy of a vehicle is measured using a chassis dynamometer, that of construction machinery such as an excavator shall be presumably measured using simulated work cycle. In order to measure fuel consumption under a simulated work cycle, a measurement methodology, while excavator operates in dynamic(transient) motion, needs to be examined and developed. In this work, three methods (gravimetry, ECU CAN signal and mass flow meter) are studied and compared. This work reveals that when ECU CAN signal is properly calibrated and evaluated, compared to gravimetry or mass flowmeter, it could be used to measure fuel consumption with accuracy and thus for approval of the fuel economy of construction machinery.

  • In this article, we look at the application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in sustainable infrastructures. In response to global warming, energy shortages, and environmental degradation, people are trying to build eco-friendly, low-carbon cities and promote eco-friendly homes. A "green" building is the entire life cycle of a building that includes maximizing the conservation of resources (energy, water, land, and materials), protecting the environment, reducing pollution, providing people with healthy, comfortable, and efficient use of space, and establishing harmony between nature and architecture. In the field of ecological and sustainable buildings, BIM modeling can be integrated into buildings with analog energy, air flow analysis, and solar building ecosystems. Using BIM technologies, you can reduce the amount of waste and improve the quality of construction. These technologies create "visualization" of digital building models through multidimensional digital design solutions that provide" modeling and analysis "of Scientific Collaboration Platforms for designers, architects, utility engineers, developers, and even end users. Moreover, BIM helps them use three-dimensional digital models in project design and construction and operational management.

  • A facility is built by participating of various parties who are connecting each other by network of contract. Domestic construction industry has been suffering with high cost and low efficiency due to lack of cooperative relationship among companies who participated in the project. The government has tried to resolve this problem by diverse policy support, but practical result has not been realized in the level of satisfaction. This paper defined construction business ecosystem in the aspect of business ecosystem as a network among construction companies based on diverse production system, and diagnosed cooperative business ecosystem in construction industry. For construction business ecosystem to be more cooperative business ecosystem, the result of diagnosis shows that the type of cooperation based capacity and value sharing should be developed and interdependence among companies and cooperative relationship should be durable and reasonable price for construction should be guaranteed for the participant to have a profit from the project.

  • Construction cost index (CCI) has been published for last 10 years, it's contributed to update the historical cost data, analysis cost fluctuation and evaluate the market price for construction works with direct or indirect manner. CCI is a secondary or processed statistics using the basic statistics of input output table (IO table) and producer price index (PPI) from the Bank of Korea (BOK). So once the basic statistics change, it is required to modify the calculating model of CCI. Recently the BOK changed some fundamental principles and the base year (from 2005 to 2010), that can be used in IO table and PPI. This research analyzed the recent revision of basic statistics and their impacts on CCI, and improved the previous CCI model in response to it. Also the validity of new CCI was verified by analyzing the items and weights utilized in CCI and comparing the related index.
