Since the foreign currency crisis, Korean economy has suffered recession and the government launches residence and real estate policy in order to increase the demand and trade of real estate and to help the economy revitalization. 1 As a result, the rate of economy growth is shown the high increase with the figure of 10.9% in 1999 and 8.8% in 2000. However, it brings overheating market as a negative effect. Although, the government established the policy for the control of speculation, the policy causes instability of economy. This study is to analyze the effect between the residence policy and the housing cost since the foreign currency crisis through housing sale price estimation and housing lease price estimation and is to apply the basis data of the next residence policy.

In these days, international construction market including construction companies has much grown due to globalization and economic boom in the mid 2000's. The size of international construction market, measured with overseas revenue of 225 construction firms, has expanded 2.7 times from 2003 to 2008 according to the ENR. However, after the global financial crisis of 2008 it has faced condition of low growth. In this research, major changes of international construction market and top contractors have been studied. In this study, changes of international construction market have been analyzed in the aspect of region and product including general buildings, transportation, petroleum, etc. Then, in order to find the changes of top contractors which obtained good accomplishment, business performance of companies have been examined by the compound annual growth rate, profit margin and international revenue by comparing the data before 2008 and after. The purpose of the study is to understand major changes of international construction market. Also, strategy changes of top contractors against market stagnation, profit depreciation, high competition have been inferred through the study. The result of the study would contribute to analyzing the strategies of construction companies in international market.

Recent national policy agenda of 'Low-Carbon Green Growth' has been implemented as the important vision of the country. The government has set a target of entering the seven major world powers of Green Nation at 2020, and five major world powers at 2050. In order to achieve the goal, the reduction of greenhouse gases and the composition of green land and transportation has been promoted as an important policy. In a construction industry sector, policies and technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy have been actively developed. In the case of developed countries, research for green road infrastructure has been conducted, which is the basis for certification system of green highway. This paper benchmarks the policies and cases of developed countries, verifies the applicability in the domestic road sector, and suggests the introduction of the certification system of green highway.

As the local economy has become stagnant, various policies have been made to revitalize the enormous construction industry. However, it is difficult for these policies to achieve their objective, as the construction industry is not an island unto itself but is interconnected in complex ways with diverse other areas of the economy. Interviews and surveys were conducted with experts in Busan, in order to identify the causes of the stagnant economy in the local construction market. The main findings were as follows. First, cost reduction and realistic master plans are needed as a solution for the problems of the redevelopment housing plan. Second, the alleviation of the construction policy is also necessary in order to overcome the problems of not considering the local construction industry. Finally, vocational training and quality education are needed to address the low awareness of construction feasibility analysis and the lack of highly trained human resources. The results of the study will help efforts to revitalize the local construction industry, and will provide an opportunity to reconsider the differences between the experts on issues of the industry.

It is considered that the construction industry is one of the pivotal players in the national economy in terms of Gross Domestic Production (GDP) and employment. Behind the positive role of this industrial sector to the national economy, the construction industry generates approximately 50 % of the total waste generation from all the industrial sectors. There are several measures to mitigate the adverse impacts of the construction waste such as reduce, reuse and recycle. Recycling would be one of the effective strategies for waste minimisation, which would be able to reduce the demand upon new resources as well as enhance reusing the construction materials on sites. The automated construction waste classification system would make it possible not only to reduce the amount of labour input but also mitigate the possibility of errors during the manual classification process. In this study, we proposed an automated waste segmentation and classification system for recycling the construction and demolition waste in the real construction site context. Since the practical application to the real-world construction sites was one of the significant factors to develop the system, a YOLACT (You Only Look At CoefficienTs) algorithm was chosen to conduct the study. In this study, it is expected that the proposed system would make it possible to enhance the productivity as well as the cost efficiency by reducing the manpower for the construction and demolition waste management at the construction site.

A road is an infrastructure that helps boost up growth of local economy, connections among local communities and living conditions. For South Korea the increase in infrastructures like roads now concentrates on specific regions, which causes regional imbalance. also, some areas are faced with the overall weakness of local economy such as decrease in local tax revenues, slowdown in industrial and economic growth of regions, and the low independence of local finances because lack of roads, a basis of local economic growth, make big and smaller business reluctant to invest in localities. In addition, even though the power-centralized age turns to a decentralized age, the preference of development policies by the existing economic size rather than those of nationwide balanced development gets the economic gap of localities deeply-rooted; moreover, disparity of local wealth has a tendency to even differentiate the overall quality of living. The paper intends to analyze relations between road development and local economy focused on road construction, one of requisites to balance national development and accelerate local economy.

In recent years, the number of high-rise buildings has been on the rise. As buildings have become larger in scale, significantly different issues related to their construction and maintenance have emerged. In addition, the automation and mechanization of the cleaning work for the curtain wall, one of the most frequently-performed tasks in building maintenance, is required as a fundamental measure. For this reason, a guide-rail cleaning robot system is emerging as one of the measures in response to external factors, including gust. Therefore, this is a preliminary study for the automation and mechanization of the curtain wall cleaning of high-rise buildings, and aims to derive the basic units and prepare for the concept of the guide rail. It is expected to serve as precedent research for the development and operation of a curtain-wall cleaning robot, and to prepare the basis for an final design of optimal guide rail.

Available data on the recent global financial crisis (GFC) show that it lasted between the second quarter (Q2) of 2007 and the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2009. Australia is one of the first economies to fully recover from this crisis. This study explorles the role played by the Australian construction industry in stimulating economic growth during the recession. In order to investigate the macro-variability trend during the financial crisis, data were collected and analysed relating to the quarterly GDP of Australia and selected countries between Q1 2000 and Q4 2009. Specifically, changes in the construction industry's GDP were compared with aggregate GDP changes in Australian economy and similar indices in the 'Group of 7' (G7) countries and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Moreover, specific attention was focused on Germany, France, Japan, United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK). Graphical and Pearson's correlation methods were used to analyse the relationships between changes in construction GDP and Australia's overall economic growth during the recession. In addition, an attempt was made to develop a regression model for predicting economic growth during the recent recession using changes in gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), changes in construction GDP and the impact of these changes on national economy. Analysis shows a slight contraction in construction activities during the crisis; however construction triggered significant growth in the economy during the crisis period and afterwards. This appears to be the major difference between Australia and other major economies that have experienced a longer recession.

As performance measurement is important for systematic management, the key indicators for performance measurement have been consistently researched in the construction industry. However, there are only a few cases in which performance measurement is performed because it requires strenuous efforts to collect data for measurement. Unlike the public sector, which has been collecting project data through laws, the private sector has very little data to measure performance. In contrast, supervision work concerns important data necessary for the performance management on building construction sites in accordance with the Building Act. Therefore, in this study, we used the data from supervisory reports to measure the performance of private building projects. First, we derived 6 performance areas and 15 indicators through a few rounds of expert group discussions and 2 surveys. Then, we identified the performance indicators with high feasibility of data collection and computed their degree of significance via the analytic hierarchy process. It is expected that the performance indicators and their computational processes derived in this study can be used to systematically measure the performance and aid the speedy diagnosis of private building construction sites.
