  • Modern society's technological and economical changes require high-level education that involve critical thinking, problem solving, and communication with others. Thus, today's perspective of mathematics and mathematics learning recognizes a potential symbolic relationship between concrete and abstract mathematics. If the problems engage students' interests and aspiration, mathematical problems can serve as a source of their motivation. In addition, if the problems stimulate students'thinking, mathematical problems can also serve as a source of meaning and understanding. From these perspectives, the purpose of my study is to prove that mathematical modeling tasks can provide opportunities for students to attach meanings to mathematical calculations and procedures, and to manipulate symbols so that they may draw out the meanings out of the conclusion to which the symbolic manipulations lead. The review of related literature regarding mathematical modeling and model are performed as a theoretical study. I especially concentrated on the study results of Freudenthal, Fischbein, Lesh, Disessea, Blum, and Niss's model systems. We also investigate the emphasis of mathematising, the classified method of mathematical modeling, and the cognitive nature of mathematical model. And We investigate the purposes of model construction and the instructive meaning of mathematical modeling. In conclusion, we have presented the methods that promote students' effective model construction ability. First, the teaching and the learning begins with problems that reflect reality. Second, if students face problems that have too much or not enough information, they will construct useful models in the process of justifying important conjecture by attempting diverse models. Lastly, the teachers must understand the modeling cycle of the students and evaluate the effectiveness of the models that the students have constructed from their classroom observations, case study, and interaction between the learner and the teacher.

  • The color and structure of urban constructions is a factor of urban landscape and shows their characteristics. Hence the modern buildings with their materials and external appearance makes up the urban image. But still yet, it was not easy to evaluate the value of visual landscape of buildings with objective measuring method. Most of all, it depends on the subjective estimation of a few talented or high educated experts with a sense of beauty. In relation to this kind of problems, it was tried here in this study to analyse the human response of brain wave pattern (EEG) with use of SD method, while the tested persons watched the urban landscape constructed in a visual reality. The tested persons were 10 adult males and females with no color blindness and intact cognitive function. Light source with color filter was used for color environment in chamber room. The signal of EEG is analysed digitally and grouped into the $\alpha$ and $\beta$ waves. The result showed that relative power of $\alpha$ wave ratio increased in natural landscape scenary clearly. From these results it was possible to evaluate the human response, which was affected by urban color and structure stimulation and it might be useful as an indicator of visual cognition amenity toward the design of urban construction environment.

  • In this study, we investigated the problems of existing e-journal subscriptions caused by open access of e-journals faced by university libraries. To solve these problems, we proposed an operational model for open access based subscription. The proposed operational model, which adapts the four concepts of subscription model, system, policy, and operation interpreted according to reality, applies open access on the premise of rational subscription of electronic journals. The proposed operational model was constructed based on national support, comprehensive operation, open access based model, and cooperation system. In particular, it emphasized the need for stable and continuous access to scholarly information through national support policy. The proposed operational model can be used as a basic data for the realization and research of open access in the domestic environment.

  • Path planning is gaining more weight in computer games and virtual reality as the number of self-moving characters increases. In the roadmap approach, the map of possible paths is built in advance to plan paths for a character, whose advantage is to provide high-quality paths. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that the road map doesn't reflect properties of characters such as their sizes because they move on the same map once the road map is constructed. In this paper we propose an efficient method to build a different road map for each character so that it can use its own map for path-planning. This method is efficient because the whole map is built once by applying the Visibility Graph regardless of the number of characters and walkable paths are incrementally inserted according to the sizes of characters. The effects of using separate roadmaps are demonstrated through simulations and the trade-offs accompanied with these effects are analyzed.

  • The color and structure of urban constructions is a factor of urban landscape and shows their characteristics. Hence the modern buildings deal with their materials and external appearance as an important factor, making up the urban image. But it was nearby impossible to evaluate the value of visual landscape with objective measuring method. Most of all, it depends on the subjective estimation of a few talented or high educated experts with a sense of beauty. Such kinds of estimation can in some cases include arbitrary interpretations. In relation to this kind of problems, it is tried here in this study to analyse the human response of brain wave pattern (EEG) with use of SD method, while the tested persons watch the urban landscape scenery constructed in a visual reality. The tested persons were 20 adult male and female with no color blindness and intact cognitive function. Light source with color filter was used for color environment in a dark soundproof chamber. The signal of EEG is analysed digitally and grouped into the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ waves. The result showed that relative power of ${\alpha}$ wave ratio increased in the natural landscape scenery with blue and green color. From these results it was possible to evaluate the human response, which is affected by urban and natural color and structure stimulation and it might be useful as an indicator of visual cognition amenity toward the design of urban construction environment.

  • This research defines Pope Francis's visit to Korea in August 2014 and the reactions from journalism to it as a case to show the discursive potential of mediated religion for social change. It analyzes the editorials and the columns on the Pope in five daily newspapers including the Chosunilbo, the Dong-A Ilbo, the Joongang Daily, the Hankyoreh, and the Kyunghyang Shinmun. Since the Pope receives positive evaluations for his remarks and behaviors during the visit from most of those articles, this research categorizes the values identified with the Pope and those with the "anti-Pope" into a form of binary oppositions, and interpret the meanings of the rhetorical strategies. The findings suggest that a consistent narrative is constructed by journalism regarding the harsh reality of Korea and the ways to overcome its structural problems. Based on the findings, I argue that mediated religion in this case is expected by the secular society to do its role for social change by being a provider of progressive and alternative values.

  • Purpose: Treatments using a mirror neuron system, such as 3D virtual reality therapy, are used in stroke rehabilitation, but they need to be constructed according to a detailed procedure. The aims of this study were to analyze electroencephalograms (EEG) during relaxation and action while observing first person perspective (1AE) and third person perspective (3AE) videos of the right hand for 20's. Methods: Thirty participants (Male=4, Female=26) were recruited for this study. Participants were selected by a vividness of movement imagery questionnaire (VMIQ). EEG was measured during relaxxation and during action with 1AE and 3AE videos, focusing on the supination and pronation actions of participants' right hands. An absolute mu rhythm, a relatively high alpha power, and a relative beta power were identified. In each group, one-way repeated measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. Results: Measurement of absolute mu rhythms was significantly suppressed for both 1AE and 3AE compared with relaxation in C3 and C4 regions. High alpha wave measurements were significantly suppressed for both 1AE and 3AE in all regions, while beta wave measurements were significantly increased only for 3AE in F3 and F4 regions. Conclusion: Based on this study, we suggest that the mirror neuron system is activated during actions accompanied by action observation, especially actions with 3AE video observation, which can be a great therapeutic mathod in stroke rehabilitation.

  • Safe and cheap emulsion explosives have recently replaced the existing CD explosives in order for people to reduce the prime cost and to prevent the safety accidents from happening in construction and civil engineering sites. However, the emulsion explosives have been in reality fared with difficulties in terms of the blasting force when using them in the tunnel constructed in the rock mass composed of hard rock. In this regards, this study is to verify their blasting efficiency and possibility of construction by applying MegaMEX, one of the high performance Emulsion explosives, to the rock mass of hard rock. In terms of their blasting efficiency such as advance ratio and fragmentation, it has turned out that they have overcome the limit of the existing Emulsion explosives and they have had the equivalent level of MegaMITE, one of the GD(Gelatin dynamite) types of explosives while they have been also advantageous to the environmental aspects.

  • This study applied hermeneutic grounded theory suggested by Rennie to understand general meaning of adoption decision process of 7 non-married mothers. At the end of the analysis, 191 meaning units, 46 subcategories, and 11 hermeneutic categories were constructed. The core category that threads throughout the adoption decision process was represented as "living with a scar left by the duality of motherhood; repudiating and embracing." The adoption decision process emerged as recognition of pregnancy, avoidance of reality, searching for adoption, escalation of confusion, determination and rationalization or forfeiture. Based upon our research, we suggested that the adoption decision process of non-married mother was another way of practicing motherhood, and we proposed that we need to develop a psycho-social support program to improve the lives of non-married mothers.
