A new technique for numerical calculation of viscoelastic flow based on the combination of Neural Net-works (NN) and Brownian Dynamics simulation or Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST) is presented in this paper. This method uses a "universal approximator" based on neural network methodology in combination with the kinetic theory of polymeric liquid in which the stress is computed from the molecular configuration rather than from closed form constitutive equations. Thus the new method obviates not only the need for a rheological constitutive equation to describe the fluid (as in the original Calculation Of Non-Newtonian Flows: Finite Elements St Stochastic Simulation Techniques (CONNFFESSIT) idea) but also any kind of finite element-type discretisation of the domain and its boundary for numerical solution of the governing PDE's. As an illustration of the method, the time development of the planar Couette flow is studied for two molecular kinetic models with finite extensibility, namely the Finitely Extensible Nonlinear Elastic (FENE) and FENE-Peterlin (FENE-P) models.P) models.
In the present study, in order to apply a cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model to multi-layered ground conditions during large earthquake, the numerical simulations of the 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake at Port Island, Kobe, Japan, were performed by the seismic response analysis. From the seismic response analysis, it was found that the acceleration calculated from the cyclic elasto-viscoplastic model and cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic models for clay was in close agreement with the recorded accelerations at the Port Island down-hole array, and the cyclic elastic-viscoplastic and viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive models showed little different behavior characteristics near clay layer. Thus, the propriety of viscoplastic model for clay was convinced. Therefore, it can be concluded that a cyclic viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive model can give a good description of the amplification and also it showed accurate damping characteristics of clay during large event which induces plastic deformation in large strain range.

Concrete is highly non-linear material which is originating from the transition zone in the form of micro-cracks, governs material response under various loadings. In this paper, the constitutive models published by many researchers have been used to generate novel stiffness parameters and constitutive curves for concrete. Following such linear material formulations, where the energy is conservative during the curvature, and a nonlinear contribution to the concrete has been made and investigated. In which, nonlinear concrete elastic modulus modeling has been developed that is capable-of representing concrete elasticity for grades ranging from 10 to 140 MPa. Thus, covering the grades range of concrete up to the ultra-high strength concrete, and replacing many concrete models that are valid for narrow ranges of concrete strength grades. This has been followed by the introduction of the nonlinear Hooke's law for the concrete material through the replacement of the Young constant modulus with the nonlinear modulus. In addition, the concept of concrete elasticity index (${\varphi}$) has been proposed and this factor has been introduced to account for the degradation of concrete stiffness in compression under increased loading as well as the multi-stages micro-cracking behavior of concrete under uniaxial compression. Finally, a sub-routine artificial neural network model has been developed to capture the concrete behavior that has been introduced to facilitate the prediction of concrete properties under increased loading.
The buckling of longitudinal reinforcements under seismic loading accelerates the degradation of the bearing capacity of reinforced concrete columns. The traditional hysteretic constitutive model of reinforcement, which does not consider buckling, usually overestimates the seismic performance of pier columns. Subsequent researchers have also proposed many models including the buckling effects. However, the accuracy of these hysteretic constitutive models proposed for simulating the buckling behavior is inadequate. In this study, based on their works, the influence of historical events on buckling is considered, the path of the re-tensioning phase is corrected by adjusting the boundary lines, and the positions of the onset buckling point and compressive buckling path during each buckling deformation are corrected by introducing correction parameters and a boundary line. A modified hysteretic constitutive model is obtained, that can more accurately reflect the buckling behavior of reinforcements. Finally, a series of hysteresis tests of reinforcements with different slenderness ratios were then conducted. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed modified model. Indicating that the modified model can more accurately simulate the equivalent stress-strain relationship of the buckling reinforcement segment.
In this paper, time-continuous constitutive equations for strain rate-dependent materials are presented first, among which those for the overstress and the consistency viscoplastic models are considered. By allowing the stress states to be outside the yield surface, the overstress viscoplastic model directly defines the flow rule for viscoplastic strain rate. In comparison, a rate-dependent yield surface is defined in the consistency viscoplastic model, so that the standard Kuhn-Tucker loading/unloading condition still remains true for rate-dependent plasticity. Based on the formulation of the consistency viscoplasticity, a computational elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model is proposed for the short fiber-reinforced fresh cementitious paste for extrusion purpose. The proposed constitutive model adopts the von-Mises yield criterion, the associated flow rule and nonlinear strain rate-hardening law. It is found that the predicted flow stresses of the extrudable fresh cementitious paste agree well with experimental results. The rate-form constitutive equations are then integrated into an incremental formulation, which is implemented into a numerical framework based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element code. Then, a series of upsetting and ram extrusion processes are simulated. It is found that the predicted forming load-time data are in good agreement with experimental results, suggesting that the proposed constitutive model could describe the elasto-viscoplastic behavior of the short fiber-reinforced extrudable fresh cementitious paste.

Modeling of rubber for design or analysis often requires confusing or complex work because there are a large number of constitutive models to be considered. Some models have few material constants, while others have many. Researchers have to prepare and fit extensive experimental data with caution and discretion. In this paper, we first compared some typical rubber models in which deformation was carried out by stretching up to around eight times the original size. We conclude that continuum-based models and chain molecular models can be used in the study of the small deformation in most engineering applications, but chain molecular models are preferred in the study of the large deformations in most biomaterial applications. As discrimination problems, Treloar's patch and cylindrical balloon stick are tested theoretically and numerically for studying bifurcation. In the case of Treloar's patch, by using the Kearsley's equation, we show that bifurcation exists for continuum-based models but not for chain molecular models. Both models show bifurcation in the cylindrical balloon stick. Therefore, in the analysis of the bifurcation of rubber showed that its existence also depends on the constitutive model selected.

This study focused on nonlinear effective stress site response analysis using two coupled constitutive models, that is, the DM model (Dafalias and Manzari 2004), which incorporated a simple plasticity sand model accounting for fabric change effects, and the PMDY03 model (Khosravifar et al. 2018), that is, a 3D model for earthquake-induced liquefaction triggering and postliquefaction response. A detailed parametric study was conducted to validate the effectiveness of nonlinear site response analysis and porewater pressure (PWP) generation through a true coupled formulation for assessing the initiation of liquefaction at ground level. The coupled models demonstrated accurate prediction of liquefaction triggering, which was in line with established empirical liquefaction triggering relations in published databases. Several limitations were identified in the evaluation of liquefaction using the cyclic stress method, despite its widespread implementation for calculating liquefaction triggering. Variations in shear stiffness, represented by changes in shear wave velocity (Vs1), exerted the most significant influence on site response. The study further indicated that substantial differences in response spectra between nonlinear total stress and nonlinear effective stress analyses primarily occurred when liquefaction was triggered or on the verge of being triggered, as shown by excess PWP ratios approaching unity. These differences diminished when liquefaction occurred towards the later stages of intense shaking. The soil response was predominantly influenced by the higher stiffness values present prior to liquefaction. A key contribution of this study was to validate the criteria used to assess the triggering of level-ground liquefaction using true coupled effective-stress constitutive models, while also confirming the reliability of numerical approximations including the PDMY03 and DM models. These models effectively captured the principal characteristics of liquefaction observed in field tests and laboratory experiments.

Finite element analysis using modern constitutive equation is one of the most general tools to simulate the deformation behavior and to predict the life of the structure. Constitutive equation becomes complicated so as to predict the material behavior more accurately than the classical models. Because of the complexity of constitutive model, numerical treatment becomes so difficult that the calculation should be verified carefully. One-element tests, simple tension or simple shear, are usually used to verify the accuracy of finite element analysis using complicated constitutive model. Since this test is mainly focused on the time integration scheme, it is also necessary to verify the equilibrium iteration using material stiffness matrix and to compare FE results with solution of structures. In this investigation, viscoplastic solution of thick walled cylinder was derived considering axial constraints and was compared with the finite element analysis. All the numerical solutions showed a good coincidence with FE results. This numerical solution can be used as a verification tool for newly developed FE code with complicated constitutive model.

Many constitutive models for concrete have been developed to predict the nonlinear behavior of concrete members considerably. The constitutive model for reinforcing bar that include the tension stiffening effect due to the bond characteristics between steel bars and concrete is being studied but the bilinear model is generally used. It was found that the buckling of the longitudinal reinforcing bars is controlled the nonlinear behavior of hybrid precast concrete panel, which is being developed for core wall. In this study, the constitutive models that can consider the embedding and buckling effects of reinforcing bar are investigated and a new model combing these constitutive models is proposed. In order to verify the proposed model, the analysis results are compared with experimental results of the concrete wall and hybrid precast concrete panel. The analysis of embedding-effect-only modeling predicted that the deformation increases continually without the decrease in the load carrying capacity. However, the analysis results of proposed model showed good agreement with some experimental results, thus verifying the proposed computational model.
