This paper presents a mechanistic approach to uniaxial viscoelastic constitutive modeling of asphalt concrete that accounts for damage evolution under cyclic loading conditions. An elasticviscoelastic correspondence principle in terms of pseudo variables is applied to separately evaluate viscoelasticity and time-dependent damage growth in asphalt concrete. The time-dependent damage growth in asphalt concrete is modeled by using a damage parameter based on a generalization of microcrack growth law. Internal state variables that describe the hysteretic behavior of asphalt concrete are determined. A constitutive equation in terms of stress and pseudo strain is first established for controlled-strain mode and then transformed to a controlled-stress constitutive equation by simply replacing physical stress and pseudo strain with pseudo stress and physical strain. Tensile uniaxial fatigue tests are performed under the controlled-strain mode to determine model parameters. The constitutive equations in terms of pseudo strain and pseudo stress satisfactorily predict the constitutive behavior of asphalt concrete all the way up to failure under controlled-strain and -stress modes, respectively.
In order to theoretically analyze the creep behavior of high Cr steel at $600^{\circ}C$, a unified elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model based on the consideration of dislocation density is proposed. A combination of a kinetic equation describing the mechanical response of a material at a given microstructure in terms of dislocation glide and evolution equations for internal variables characterizing the microstructure provides the constitutive equations of the model. Microstructural features of the material such as the grain size and spacing between second phase particles are directly implemented in the constitutive equations. The internal variables are associated with the total dislocation density in a simple model. The model has a modular structure and can be adjusted to describe a creep behavior using the material parameters obtained from uniaxial tensile tests.

The mechanical behavior of a commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is investigated at high temperature Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) compression test with high strain-rate. Tests are performed over a temperature range from room temperature to 1000$^{\circ}C$ with interval of 200$^{\circ}C$ and a strain-rate range of 1900 ∼ 2000/sec. The true flow stress-true strain relations depending on temperature are achieved in these tests. For construction of constitutive equation from the true flow stress-true strain relation, parameters for the Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is determined. And the modified Johnson-Cook equation is used for investigation of behavior of flow stress in vicinity of recrystalization temperature. The Modified Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is more suitable in expressing the dynamic behavior of a CP-Ti at high temperature, i.e. about recrystalization temperature.

Constitutive models for final stage densification of metal powder compacts with power-law creep deformation were investigated. The constitutive models were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) by using user subroutine CREEP and, from FEM results, useful densification curves were obtained when hydrostatic and uniaxial stress were applied to the powder compacts at various pressures and temperatures. Because the densification behavior varied as the constitutive models, the equivalent stress surface on each constitutive equation was investigated to analyze the difference of densification behavior.
The inelastic behavior of a reinforced concrete columns is influenced by a number of factors : 1) level of axial load, 2) tie spacing, 3) volumetric ratio of lateral steel, 4) concrete strength, 5) distribution of longitudinal steel, 6) strength of lateral steel, 7) cover thickness, 8) configuration of lateral steel, 9) strain gradient, 10) strain rate, 11) the effectively confined concrete core area, and 12) amount of longitudinal steel. A new constitutive model of a confined concrete is suggested in order to investigate the nonlinear behavior of the reinforced concrete columns under concentric loading. The developed constitutive model for the confined concrete takes into account the effects of effectively confined area as well as the horizontal and longitudinal distributions of the confining pressures. None of the existing models incorporated these two main effects at the same time. A total of different six constitutive models for the behavior of the confined concrete under concentric compression were compared with the sixty-one test results reported by different researchers. The superiority of the developed model in its accuracy is demonstrated by evaluating the error function, which compares the weighted averages for the sum of squared relative differences in peak compressive strength and corresponding strain, stress at strain equal to 0.015, and total area under stress-strain curve up to strain equal to 0.015.
The appropriate description of the stress-anisotropy and time-dependent behavior of cohesive soils is very important in representing the real soil behavior. In this study, two constitutive relations have been incorporated based on the generalized viscous theory: one is the plastic constitutive relation adopted to capture the stress-anisotropy with a few model parameters; the other is the rate-dependent constitutive relation adopted to describe the strain rate-dependent behavior, an important time-dependent behavior in cohesive soils. The incorporated and proposed constitutive model has relatively a few model parameters and their values need not to be re-evaluated at different strain rates. The proposed model has been verified and investigated with the anisotropic triaxial test results obtained by using the artificial homogeneous specimens.
Solid polymers exhibit rate-dependent deformation behavior such as nonlinear strain rate sensitivity and stress relaxation like metallic materials. Despite the different microstructures of polymeric and metallic materials, they have common properties with respect to inelastic deformation. Unlike most metallic materials, solid polymers and shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit highly nonlinear stress-strain behavior upon unloading. The present work employs the viscoplasticity theory [K. Ho, 2011, Trans. Mater. Process. 20, 350-356] developed for the pseudoelastic behavior of SMAs, which is based on unified state variable theory for the rate-dependent inelastic deformation behavior of typical metallic materials, to depict the curved unloading behavior of polyphenylene oxide (PPO). The constitutive equations are characterized by the evolution laws of two state variables that are related to the elastic modulus and the back stress. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data obtained by Krempl and Khan [2003, Int. J. Plasticity 19, 1069-1095].

A mathematical model which can simulate biaxial moment-curvature relations for reinforced concrete column is developed. The developed model is capable of tracing the post-peak behavior of a column after peak load. The model can take into account different sectional shapes of a column and various constitutive models of confined concrete. The developed model is used to evaluate constitutive models of confined concrete under concentric loading, suggested by different researchers. Error function which measures the overall constitutive behavior of a confined concrete is intrcduced. The constitutive model minimizing this error function is selected and is incorporated into the developed model in order to investigate the effect of main parameters on the general column behavior.

Tow constitutive models for weathered granite soil, Yasufuku's constitutive model with a single yield surface and Lade's constitutive model with two intersectiong yield surface compared in terms of their capabilities to accurately capture the observed behavior of compacted weathered grainite soil for various stress-paths. Both the single surface and the double surface models capture the experimentally observed behavior at a variety of stress-paths with good accuracy. The double surface model may model the observed compacted weathered granite soil behavior with better accuracy for proportational loading with increasing stress, but the single surface model may model dilatancy property with better accuracy for p-constant loading with increasing stress ratio.

Certain structural components are exposed to high temperatures. At high temperature, under thermal and mechanical loading, metal components exhibit both creep and plastic behavior. The unified constitutive theory is to model both the time-dependent behavior(creep) and the time-independent behavior(plasticity) in one set of equations. Microscopically both creep and plasticity are controlled by the motion of dislocations. A finite element method is presented encorporating a unified constitutive model for the transient analysis of viscoplastic behavior of structures exposed to high temperature.
