1. The purpose of study To study the effectiveness of Yangkyuksanhawtang(YST) against Allergic Contact Dermatitis(ACD) I observed the change of cutaneous shape, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and the distribution of apoptotic cells. 2. The material and method of study I divided 4-month-old rats into three groups of 10, which are a contrastive group of having applied Acetone olive oil only, ACD group to have intentionally activated Allergic Contact Dermatitis by DNCB and YST group to give medication of Yangkyuksanhawtang extract. And I observed each group of mice after 24, 48 and 72 hours. 3. The result and conclusion of study The change of cutaneous shape and hypersensitive reaction of immunity was significantly decreased by YST in ACD rats. I consider that YST suppressed hypersensitive reaction of immunity and inflammation in ACD.
1. Objectives Yangkyuksanhwa-tang is used mush in pruritus and dermatopathy of Soyangin. It is suggested this prescription is effective on atopy dermatitis. 2. Methods For observation of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang effected to atopic dermatitis, extract of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang has been dispensed to the stratum corneum of epithelium in dermatome of murine after making damage to its defense mechanism against fat and causing atopic dermatitis artificially. After that, the change in outer dermatome and minute mechanism of epidermis, the change of eosinophil, the change in distribution of soybean agglutinin, the change in distribution of fat and ceramide in stratum corneum, the change in inflammation in dermatome, the change of cell accrementition and apoptosis, and the effect on anaphylaxis and Staphylococcus aureus was observed. 3. Results After administration of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, severe skin damage such as eczema and psoriasis, that was observed in the case of atopy dermatitis, was decreased and the increase of eosinophil in serum was suppressed. Lipid lamella was recovered, so epidermal demage was relieved. The distribution of HSP70 in the outer skin was decreased. Yangkyuksanhwa-tang suppressed activation of $NF-_{\kappa}B$ p50, induced CD11/18b not to be generated, and suppressed inflammatory response of skin. Anaphylaxis and groth of Staphylococcus aureus was suppressed. 4. Conclusions Yangkyuksanhwa-tang decreased skin damage of atopy dermatitis. It has antibiosis about Staphylococcus aureus, it can be medicinal substances on atopy dermatitis. In addition, it is possible that it can be medicinal substances on regional skin allergy.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to analyze the Sasang constitution and psychological traits of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and to utilize the results in treatment and management. Methods The differences of Sasang Constitution distribution, psychological characteristics, comorbid disorders between ALS group of 26 patients and general group of 1132 persons were investigated and analyzed. Results There was no significant different distribution of Sasang Constitution between ALS group and general group but there was Yang-like personality tendency in ALS group than general group. In overall constitution, ALS group had the high prevalence rate of musculoskeletal disorders and diabetes than general group. In Soyangin constitution, ALS group had a high prevalence rate of musculoskeletal disorders than genral group. In Taeeumin constitution, ALS group had a high prevalence rate of diabetes and hypertension than general group. Conclusion ALS patients have the Yang-like personality. It is due to the adaptation of personality on the environmental change or coping strategy on diseases rather than the characteristics of congenital Sasang Constitution.
Objectives This study aimed to examine differences in the hepatic function disorders and prevalence rates of liver diseases in accordance with the Sasang constitutional type, and to analyze whether Sasang constitution is a significant risk factor for fatty liver. Methods A total of 1211 patients who underwent health check-up at the Ilsan Hospital of Dongguk University and had their physical constitutions diagnosed by a specialist in Sasang constitutional medicine from October 31, 2011 to September 28, 2012 were used as the subjects of this study. Presence of hepatobiliary diseases was analyzed from the results of the hepatic function test, lipid test and viral hepatitis infection marker test in the biochemistry tests, and abdominal ultrasonography. Results & Conclusion Subjects of the study were composed of 691 males and 520 females and, in terms of Sasang constitution distribution, 550 Taeeumin, 343 Soeumin and 318 Soyangin. As the results of analysis of prevalence rates in accordance with Sasang constitutions, significant differences were observed in the prevalence rates of abnormal groups in the cases of AST, ALT, GGT, Triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and all of their prevalence rates were in the descending order of Taeeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin. Soeumin displayed significantly higher positive rate for HBs Ab in comparison to Taeeumin and Soyangin. In the results of abdominal ultrasonography, the prevalence rates of fatty liver displayed significant differences and were in the descending order of Taeeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin. And as the result of logistic regression analysis in order to find the risk factors of fatty liver, the Sasang constitution was found to be a significant risk factor for fatty liver. The odds ratio of Taeeumin in fatty liver was found to be 1.634 higher than Soeumin and 1.773 higher than Soyangin
1. Objectives: This clinical study was conducted to understand the differences between Sasang constitutional types and to identify the physical symptoms presentation specific to each Sasang constitutional type. 2. Methods: In this descriptive study, 2,629 subjects (1,061 Taeeum-type, 683 Soeum-type, 885 Soyang-type) were surveyed between Nov 1, 2007 and Jul 31, 2010. The subjective symptoms experienced by the subjects were collected using a Physical Symptoms questionnaire, and the subjects were interviewed by Sasang specialists who determined the subjects' constitutional type. The data (in crude number and percentage) was analyzed on the general characteristics, Sasang constitutional type, and physical symptoms using the SPSS 17.0 software. The symptomatic presentation in men and women were analyzed on Sasang constitutional distribution using the chi-square test. 3. Results: 1) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type were as follows: 'frequent aphthous lesions in the oral cavity', 'lingering fatigue after sleep', 'headache', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', and 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; 'physical deterioration presenting as problems in perspiration' and 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type; and 'excessive forgetfulness' in the Soyang type. 2) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type in men were as follows: 'Unilateral or bilateral headaches, 'frequent aphthous lesions in the oral cavity', 'common cold symptoms presenting as rhinorrhea or nasal congestion', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', and 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; and 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type. 3) The physical symptoms specific to each Sasang constitutional type in women were as follows: 'common cold symptoms presenting as headaches', 'common cold symptoms presenting as loss of appetite or indigestion', 'physical deterioration presenting as problems with digestion' in the Soeum type; and 'pain in knees', 'redness of eyes', 'dryness of mouth', 'common cold symptoms presenting as coughing', 'physical deterioration presenting as problems in perspiration', 'swelling and puffiness' in the Taeeum type. 4. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that physical symptoms present in constitutional type-specific patterns. Understanding of the personal Sasang constitutional type and systematic, personalized healthcare based on constitutional typology is anticipated to contribute to improved health management strategy.
1. Objectives : This research aimed to understand the effects of food consumption that fits to the constitution of subjects on health status by recognizing the constitutional food preference according to Sasang constitution. 2. Methods : The participants who are college students in D city were invited from Mar. 17, 2009 to Sep. 5 2010 for the research. More than two medical doctors who are specialized in Sasang constitution diagnosed the constitution of participants, and the participants were selected as subjects only if the diagnosis of the two doctors were agreed. Total 422 subjects (Taeumin: 175, Soeumin: 101, Soyangin: 144) were selected from the diagnosis, and the collected data was analyzed with computer software of SPSS 17.0. The frequency analysis was executed for the general characteristics of subjects, and the relationship of constitutional food preference and health status (SF-36) were analyzed with Pearson Correlation Coefficient. 3. Results : From the results about the distribution of constitutional food preference according to the constitutions, Soeumin showed the highest frequency for both of lower than 10 points (35.0 %), which stands for high preference of constitutional food, and higher than 40 points (1.9 %), which stands for low preference of constitutional food. And, they showed no correlation for the results about the relationship between health status and constitutional food preference based on 9 sub-categories of SF-36 including Physical Component Score (PCS), Mental Component Score (MCS). 4. Conclusions : In conclusion, the effects of food consumption that fits to the constitution of the twenties on their health status were understood by recognizing the constitutional food preference according to Sasang constitution. Comparing with the previous research results that constitutional food consumption can enhance their health status, there were no correlation between health status and constitutional food preference. The discrepancy of results can be addressed to difficulties of group selection, constitutional food categorization and lack of constitutional food-related questionnaires. Thus, it is required to conduct a follow-up studies that were made up for the mentioned shortcomings.
The purpose of this paper was to investigated to the relationship between longevity and Sasang Constitution. The investigation of this paper is composed of 4 parts. First part is investigated to the distribution of sex constitution and constitutional form. Second part is the distribution of the special of body quality(blood pressure, Pulse, Respiration, heredity, stool frequency) and the disease. Third part is the relation of the longevity reason(diet, alcohol intake, smoking). Fourth part is the relationship between the QSCC II and longevity reason. The results were as follows : 1. In case of a macrobian, Soyangin is much more in constitution. 2. A macrobian is generally short and thin. 3. About the macrobian's strength of heredity, there is no any meaningful conclusion, but more studying relationship between heredity and longevity is needed. 4. A macrobian has normal condition in blood pressure, pulse and feces condition. 5. In case of macrobian, the portion of a light eater, non-smoker, and abstainer is high, they like warm food. 6. A macrobian who is active and diligent has high accomplishment and good sociality. Considering above conclusion, a macrobian is related to Soyangin in characteristic of constitution. In the future, more studying is needed whether the macrobian has kept their lives with their unique preservation of health or not.
Objectives The aim of this study was to reveal the difference of body shape, personality, physiological characteristics between migrant Vietnam and Daejeon women using propensity matching. Methods The number of 274 Vietnamese migrant women and Daejeon city women participate in this study. There was significant differentce in physio-pathological symptom in 'digestion'(p<.001), 'urine time'(p<.001), 'feeling cold/heat'(p=.006). There was significant differentce in distribution of SC between Vietnam and Daejeon women(p=.025). Conclusions This study reveals that there is differentce in body shape, personality, physiological characteristics between Vietnam and Daejeon women. These factors might influence on SC distribution between Vietnam and Dajeon women
1. Objectives As a basic trial for identification of Sasang constitutional gene marker, we genotyped and analysed statistical relationships of STR(short tandem repeat) alleles and its distribution in each constitution. 2. Methods After obtaining basic constitutional data with questionnaire (QSCC II), decision of constitution was made by 3 different constitution specialists' diagnosis, and only the samples of specialists' agreement of each constitution by discussion were taken into this research. Using multiplex PCR kit, total 146 constitutional samples were amplified in 16 autosomal STR marker, genotyped, and analysed statistically. Among 16 markers, 15 were analysed in this study excluding the amelogenin marker is used for in gender identification. 3. Results and Conclusions It is difficult to determine the relationship between constitution and STR marker as the sample size is small, however, Penta D and vWA were shown to be related statistically with constitution. It has been know that STRs has no genetic informations, however there are some recent research results showing STRs as a regulatory element, relationship between microsatellite instability and repeat number and size, and post-transcriptional sigualing. STRs which is not known about its function currently, are proposed to have function and/or regulatory activities anyhow with Sasang constitution. It is believed that the results of this study can halp determine and deatify the markers related to Sasang Constitutional Medicien.
This study was performed to analize the possibility of validation about Questionaire of Sasang constitution Classification which has been made through several stages for the purpose of promoting the objectivity of Sasang constitutional classification. The results of statistical research about the responses data of Sasang Questionaire are as follow: 1. In the case of mutual relation between the items of the QSCC(Questionaire of Sasang Constitution Classification) and 16PF, every item displaced singnificant result.(in male group) 2. In the investigation to classify the score distribution of Sasang items three groups and analize the gap of mean value in each of 16PF, the characters of each Sasang group were turn out as follows: (1) The Taee-Yang group has extrovert and narcissistic inclination. (2) The So-Yang group shows remarkable extrovert inclination. (3) The Tae-Eum group has hidden fear and introvert inclination. (4) The So-Eum group has revealed physical unstability and introvert inclination. 3. The statistical research of female group didn't display any significant result. It will be necessary to analize the respondent shape of female group and introduce new items to coincident with faminine psychology. 4. In the research using 16PF accompany with QSCC in order to classify the Sasang constitution, the accuracy rate of diagnosis showed inspiring elevation. For that reason, it seems to be desirable to introduce some items of 16PF into QSCC. According to above results, although QSCC contains several problems to be solved, its validity was proved, and the analysis of statistics suggests the possibility to step forward by introducing 16PF in some problems of promoting the accuracy of Sasang Constitutional diagnosis, assuring the objectibity of Sasang constitution classification and so on.
