  • In the Oriental Medicine, the physical constitution of a human being can be classified into five characteristic elements. The remedy based on the five elements constitution has revealed excellent clinical effects so far. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to conduct job design researches considering the five elements constitution for improving the efficiency and safety of job. In this study, we examine whether the theory can be applied for job design through the experiment by ‘Digital-type Speed Anticipation Reaction Tester’ or not and suggest the desirable direction of job design.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the body shape characteristics of each Sasang constitution typology. The constitution type of the subjects was determined by Sasang Constitution Analysis Tool(SCAT) and a Sasang specialist. The body circumference of the subjects and their respective proportions were analyzed. Concordance rates between SCAT and the specialist were 33.0% and 41.5% for men and women, respectively, and Soyangin had the lowest concordance rate. Forehead/neck, chest/iliac, rib/iliac, and rib/curvature circumference ratios of female subjects showed the same results in both SCAT and the specialist. In determining the constitution type, it was confirmed that the ratio between specific circumferences can be a more meaningful criterion than the circumference.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to objectify the diagnosis of Sasang Constitution. Using the methods of this study, it will improve to classificate Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods 1) Automatic feature extraction of human frontal faces for Sasang Constitution classification. 2) Color feature extraction of human frontal faces (1)Erosion filtering (skin-white, the other-black) (2) Median median 3. Results and Conclusions Observing a person's shape has been the major method for Sasang Constitution classification, which usually has been dependent upon doctor's intuition as of these days. We are developing an automatic system which provides objective basic data for Sasang Constitution classification. For this, in this paper, firstly, the signal processing techniques are applied to automatic feature extraction of human frontal faces for Sasang Constitution classification. The experiment is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system.

We proceeded the judgment of Sasang constitution by 'Questiinaire of Sasang Constitution Classification(I)' and 'Questiinaire of Sasang Constitution Classification II(QSCCII)'. The following conclusion were made in comparison with Sasang Constitution and Questiinaire about disease and style of symptoms. 1. The subject of 'increase of the weight of a body(gain weight), cough, nasal discharge(rhinorrhea), stuffed nose, sweatier, more like fat food, more like salty food', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Taeum group is more than of Soeum group and Soyang group. 2. The subject of 'the complextion is bad, anorexia, indigestion, nervousness, sonitus', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soeum group is more than of Taeum group and Soyang group. 3. The subject of 'urodynia, otic discharge', has significant differences in sasang constitution classification. The frequency of Soyang group is more than of Taeum group and Soeum group.

  • This study aimed to know the association between health practices(Alameda 7) and health state according to Sasang Constitution. We recruited 204 subjects whose age were between 10 and 80, excluding individuals who have physically or psychologically serious diseases, and women in pregnancy among Korean population in Traditional Korea Clinics. They were diagnosed by Sasang constitution specialists and confirmed clinically with Sasang constitution drug response with past medical records. We used the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36) to estimate health state related with quality of life. We statistically analyzed association using SPSS 17.0K for window. According to Sasang Constitution, smoking and exercising were associated with health degree in Tae-eumin, smoking, drinking, diet and snacking in So-eumin, and past smoking, drinking, sleeping and exercising in So-yangin. These results suggest that there are different health practices for health promotion according to Sasang constitution. Therefore we have to consider the differences of Sasang constitution in health care plan.

  • It is very important problem that exactly distinguish constitution, in Sasang constitutional Medicine. But, it is careless that discuss the propriety of 'Sasang constitution unchangeability theory(四象體質 不變論)'. The foundation of Sasang constitution unchangeability theory is the sentence in DongUi SuSae BoWon Sa-dan theory(東醫壽世保元 四端論) : "The Organ system of Taeyang(太陽), Taeum(太陰), Soyang (少陽) and Soeum(少陰) is the variation of YinYang(陰陽), is firm nature and is unnecessary agreement. (太少陰陽之臟局 陰陽之變化也 天稟之已定 固無可論)". But, the foundation of Sasang constitution unchangeability theory contradict the theory that Organ system(臟腑) is made by deviation of emotions(joy, anger, sorrow and pleasure :喜怒哀樂) or temperament(性情). Because these emotions is revealed after birth(後天), the deviation of Organs system made by deviation of emotions is not innate, is acquired after birth. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the opinion that Sasang constitution is variable after birth. The conclusion of our study is that Sasang constitution can be variable after birth.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the relationship between Sasang Constitution and length of chest and abdomen region. Methods : Forty eight participants were enrolled. Weight, height, and lengths from CV22 to CV16, from CV16 to CV8, and from CV8 to CV2 were measured. Ratios of last three lengths to total CV22 to CV2 were calculated respectively. On the other hand, Sasang Constitution was analyzed with QSCCII(Questionnaire of Sasang Constitutional Classification II). The analysis of relationship between the measurements and Sasang Constitution was carried out with SPSS to compare the mean values according to Sasang Constitution. Results : All the mean values were not significantly different depending on the Sasang Constitution, except the ratio of the length from CV16 to CV8 to the length from CV22 to CV2, only in female participants. The ratio was higher in the female Soeumin participants than any other constitutional groups. Conclusions : This result showed that Soeumin could be assumed that they might have weak digestion abilities.

  • Objectives: One of the most important and difficult things in SaSang Constitution Medicine is to diagnose and classify constitution. So there have been a lot of methods and tools to diagnose and classify it. We have attempted to show the reliability and clinical application of the QSCC Ⅱ (Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification Ⅱ), comparing with our own clinical research. Methods: We surveyed information from QSCC Ⅱ and compared QSCC Ⅱ' s reliability with clinical research of 54 patients' constitution(men 24, women 30). Results: Taeeum-in is the most commonly reported constitution by clinical research, and the next is Soeum-in. Soyang-in is the most commonly reported constitution by QSCC Ⅱ and the next is Taeeum-in. In Taeeum-in and Soeum-in' s items of QSCC Ⅱ, these matched those of the clinical research. Soyang-in' s items of QSCC Ⅱ did not match. Conclusions: The efficiency of QSCC Ⅱ is higher than clinical research in Taeeum-in, Soeum-in. But lower than clinical research, Soyang-in and Taeyang-in have no reliability in QSCC Ⅱ. So Soyang-in and Taeyang-in require alternative complementary studies in the future.
