  • In this study, the effect of heat treatment to the electrochemical polarization resistance for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy was measured. The solution heat treatments were carried out at $1066^{circ}E, 966^{\circ}$E$, followed by aging heat treated $550^{circ}E, 600^{circ}E, and 650^{circ}E$. The electrochemical polarization resistance behavior was measured by potentio-dynamic polarization in the 1N $HNO_3$ + 15ppm HF solution. The obtained results were as follows. 1. As solution heat temperature increased. the corrosion potential was increased, whereas passive current density and critical current density were decreased. 2. As aging heat temperature increased, the corrosion potential was almost constant, but passive current density was decreased 3. The results of composition test measured by EDS at grain boundary and near $\gamma'$ precipitates indicated that S, Cl. and Si which originated from base metal were segregated at the grain boundaries Al and Ti which were the main alloying element in $\gamma'$ were depleted at the $\gamma'$ precipitated. The depletion of Al and Ti in $\gamma'$ was caused to early breakdown of passive film.

  • The structure of premixed tubulent flames in a constant-volume vessel was investigated using a schlieren method and microprobe method. The schlieren method was used to observe the flame structure qualitatively. The microprobe method, which detects a flamelet by detecting its flame potential signal, was used to investigate the deeper flame structure behind the flame front. The flame potential signal having one to six peaks was obtained in the case of turbulent flames, each of them being regarede as a flamelet existing in the flame zone. Based on this consideration, the flame propagation speed, the thickness of the flame zone, the number of flamelets and the separation distance between adjacent flamelets in the flame zone were measured. Moreover, the thickness of flamelet which could not be attempted in the conventional electrostatic probe method was also investigated. The experimental results of this work suggest the existence of "reactant islands" in the reaction zone, and show that the averaged number of flamelets increases with an increase in the turbulence intensity and/or a decrease in the Damkohler number. The mean thickness of flamelet in the case of turbulent flames was found to be about two times compared to laminar values.ar values.

  • A three-dimensional thoracic model was constructed using 8-node trilinear hexahedron elements. A three-dimensional steady-state finite element code was developed using FORTRAN. Its output consists of potential at each node. current In each element, and total current In each layer in the z-direction. The thoracic model was Implemented to calculate basal impedance(Zo) In Impedance CardiograPhy Generalized Laplace's equation was solved with Dirlchlet(constant potentials) and homogeneous Neumann(no flux) boundary conditions. It was found that the con structed thoracic model was reasonable since the calculated potential differences between the adjacent electrodes and basal impedance were about the same as the measured ones.

  • This study examined the dangerous elements in primary science textbooks and had some suggestions for the minimization of safety accidents in the science class experiments. The research results are as follows: 1) The rate of accident in the primary science experiments was not high, but potential for the outbreak of safety accidents was always present. 2) it is necessary to include safety contents on science textbooks. The survey revealed that only 18 percent of safety education materials include on science textbooks. 3) It will be desirable for science experiment lessons to include safety education materials for safety experiments. This could also help the students develop the right recognition and attitude regarding safety. 4) There was lack of safety devices those were required to be kept at science labs. The survey showed that about 20 percent of the schools had the experimental clothing. 5) Safety training is often conducted in an overly simplified manner, and no special time is allocated to it. In conclusion, to improve the problems pertaining to school safety accident, courses on safety training are essential as textbooks and teachers. Constant and systematic instructions on safety should be done in order to prevent potential safety accidents.

  • The aglycones of vicine and convicine have been implicated as the causative factors for favism in fababeans. Thus, the presence of these compounds in fababeans is a potential obstacle to the use of fababeans and fababean preparations in foods. Investigations of vicine stability in fababeans and in pure solutions revealed that vicine is very stable, however, divicine derived from vicine by ${\beta}-gIucosidase$ action or by acid hydrolysis is highly unstable at conditions prevalent in food processing. Therefore, the possibility of incorporating of ${\beta}-gIucosidase$ in food products containing fababean preparations was suggested to overcome potential risks of favism related to the consumption of fababean fortified products.

  • Organic waste used as a feedstock in the anaerobic digestion (AD), it includes carbon and nitrogen. Carbon and nitrogen have an effect on the various digestive characteristics during AD, however, the study is rare about those of the interaction. This study investigates the influence of carbon type and carbon to nitrogens (C/N ratios) on the AD characteristics of organic waste. Experimental treatments involved a combination of three carbon types with three C/N ratios. The AD tests were carried out using a 125-mL serum bottle at a constant temperature of 37℃ and moisture 95% for 18 days. Degradation pattern shows the difference among three-carbon treatments, the starch group was faster than other groups. Maximum methane production date was similar between starch (9.96 ± 0.05 day) and xylan group (10.0 ± 0.52 day), those of the cellulose group (14.6 ± 1.80 day) was slower than other groups (p < 0.05). The lag phase was only affected by the carbon type (p < 0.05). Ammonia nitrogen was mainly affected by nitrogen concentration regardless of carbon type (p < 0.05). This study showed that xylan is useful as feedstock in order to decrease the lag phase, and it showed that ammonia was independently affected by the nitrogen concentration.

  • Al-brass is usually used as the tube material of vessel's heat exchanger for seawater cooling system because it has high thermal conductivity and good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance due to cuprous oxide (Cu20) layer against seawater. However, Al-brass tubes of heat exchanger for vessel at the actual environment is reported that local corrosion such as stress corrosion cracking occurred by synergism effect between mechanical factor and corrosion environment In this paper, the effect of corrosion environment on the stress corrosion cracking of Al-brass in various NH4OH of 3.5% NaCl solution, under flow by constant displacement tester. Based on the test results, the behavior of polarization, stress corrosion crack propagation and dezincification phenomenon of Al-brass are investigated. The main results are as follows:(1) Increasing range of potential from open circuit potential to repassivation gets lower, as the contain rate of NH4OH gets higher. (2) As contain rate of NH4OH gets higher, SCC of Al-brass is become activation but the protection film(Cu20) of Al-brass is created in 3.5% NaCl solution. (3) According as content of NH4OH increases in 3.5% NaCl solution, the dezincifiction area is spread. It is concluded that dezincification occurred by localized preferential anodic dissolution at stress focusing region.

  • Nickel-matal hydride(Ni-MH) batteries are receiving attention as non-pollunting. high performance rehargeable energy stoage system. The performance of Ni-Mh is significantly influenced by the hydrogen storage alloy materiels used as an anode material. Recently, having discharge capacities higher than the $AB_5$-type hydrogen storage alloys, the Zr-based $AB_2$-Type hydrogen storage alloys has remaining problems regarding cycle life and self-dischareg. These problems need to be solved by improvements in the alloy design and/or surface treatment. This work investiggates the effects the effects of surface property by fluorination on $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Mn_{0.4}Ni{1.2}$ composittion $AB_2$-Type hydrogen storage alloys. EPMA, SEM and AES techniques were used for surface analysis, and the crystal structure was characterized by constant current cycling test and potential sweep methods. Fluorination was found to be effective when La-was incorporated into the alloy, and has unique morphology, higher reactivity, and at the same time formed a protective film. Through, fluorination, the cycle life of an electrode was found to increase significantly, charge/discharge characteristics of the electrode the potential difference between the charge/discharge plateau, i.e polarization(overpotential)were improved.

  • An exact expression of the titration fraction as a function of the potential is derived for the cases where the coefficients of the both half reactions involved in the titration are homogeneous. It shows that the potential is independent of the concentration of the reagents not only at the equivalence point but also at all titration fractions. The sharpness of the end point detection by potentiometric method is shown to depend not only on the difference of the normal potentials involved but also strongly on the number of electrons transferred in each half reaction. The inflexion point of the potentiometric titration curve is shown to be slightly off from the equivalence point, including the cases where the number of electrons involved are equal. Completeness of the reaction in the course of titration is analyzed, too, mostly in terms of equilibrium constant, thus most of the results are applicable to any type of equilibrium in a single phase with particular relationship of coefficients of chemical equation.
