  • We have classified barred galaxies for 418 RC3 sample galaxies within z < 0.01 from SDSS DR7 using the visual inspection, ellipse fitting method and Fourier analysis. We found the bar fraction to be ~60%, 43% and 70% for each method and that the ellipse fitting method tends to miss the bar when a large bulge hides the transition from bar to disk in early spirals. We also confirmed that the Fourier analysis cannot distinguish between a bar and spiral arm structure. These systematic difficulties may have produced the long-time controversy about bar fraction dependence on Hubble sequence, mass and color. We designed a new method to fine bars by analyzing the ratio map of bar strength in polar coordinates, which yields the bar fraction of ~27% and ~32% for SAB and SB, respectively. The consistency with visual inspection reaches around 70%, and roughly 90% of visual strong bar are classified as SAB and SB in our classification. Although our method also has a weakness that a large bulge lowers the value of bar strength, the missing bar fraction in early spirals is reduced to the level of ~1/4 compared to the ellipse fitting method. Our method can make up for the demerits of the previous automatic classifications and provide a quantitative bar classification that agrees with visual classification.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the results of mosaicplasty and microfracture after surgical treatments for symptomatic osteochondral lesion of talus (OLT) by second-look arthroscopy. Materials and Methods: 7 cases of mosaicplasty and 7 cases of microfracture were reviewed who undertook second-look arthroscopy at 6 months or one year after undertaking mosaicplasty or microfracture for OLT between December 2004 and October 2005. The mean age at first operation was 43.6 years (Range, 20-59) (Mosaicplasty; 43.9 years, Microfracture; 43.4 years). The mean size of cartilage defect was $15.0{\times}7.7\;mm$ in mosaicplasty and $7.1{\times}6.6\;mm$ in microfracture. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by Freiburg ankle score. Cartilage healing state was evaluated by Insall's classification for chondromalasia during second-look arthroscopy. Results: By the Freiburg ankle score, 9 ankles (6 in mosaicplasty, 3 in microfracture) had excellent and 5 (1 in mosaicplasty, 4 in microfracture) had good results at the times of second-look arthroscopy. By Insall's classification, consistency of the osteochondral grafts and congruity between grafts and native cartilage (Grade I) were shown in 9 (6 ankles in mosaicplasty, 3 ankles in microfracture), a fissuring (Grade II) in one ankle of mosaicplasty, a fasciculation (Grade III) in one ankle of microfracture, and partial exposure of subchondral bone (Grade IV) in 3 ankles of microfractures. Conclusion: Mosaicplasty was more excellent in consistency and hardness of cartilage than microfracture. In some cases of microfracture, cartilage healing was incomplete at 6 months postoperatively, so second-look arthroscopy is necessary to identify. If incomplete cartilage healing was shown, additional procedure such as microfracture or mosaicplasty was needed.

  • This paper suggests a classification rule with unequal covariance matrices when a patterned incomplete data are involved in the discriminant analysis. This is an extension of Geisser's (1966) result to the case of missing observations. For the calssificaiton rule, we introduce an algorithm which contains data augmentation step and Monte Carlo integration step and show that the algorithm yields a consistant estimator of true classification probability. The proposed method is compared to the complete observation vector method through a Monte Carlo study. The results show that the suggested method, in general, performs better than the complete observation vector method which ignores those vectors of observation with one or more missing values from the analysis. The results also verify the consistency of the algorithm.

  • A concept of multi-layered database is proposed for the integrated operation of bridge information in this study. The multi-layered database is a logically integrated database composed of standardized information layers. The standardized information layers represent the data sets that can be unified, and they are defined by standardized information models. Classification system of bridge component was used as a basis of the multi-layered database, and code system based on the classification system was employed as a key integrator to manipulate the distributed data located on the different information layers. In addition, data level indicating priorities of information layers was defined to support strategic planning of the multi-layered database construction. As a proof of concept, a prototype of multi-layered database for object-oriented 3-D shape information and structural calculation document was built. Data consistency check of the semantically same data in the two different information layer was demonstrated, It is expected that the proposed concept can assure the integrity and consistency of information in the bridge information management.

  • Considering that the classified items in the work section level can have an applicability when those items are being used to cost and specification information with consistency, the work section classification code should be applied as an Integrated code system. Our construction industry is using three work section classification systems for civil engineering projects, such as integrated construction information classification system, standard method of measurement and guide of project specification. And each standard construction specification is also using different work section classification systems. This study suggests a methodology to integrate the code systems in construction specifications with civil engineering standard method of measurement. And the methodology suggested in this study was applied to a web-based prototype system with practical specification codes.

  • This study investigated the administrative history, from the introduction of the "Standard of Government Function Classification" (BRM) to its development and application. Through the results of the survey, the causes of the problems observed in the current government's functional classification system were revealed. The current survey examined the functional classification scheme of the central government and local governments on the "cultural heritage" policy area (9 major functions, 59 middle functions, 297 small functions, and 1,287 unit tasks). It confirmed the problem of the separation of functions between central and local governments as well as other problems. Among the problems, this study proposed an improvement model through four representative cases such as the "designation of cultural heritage." In order to reorganize the "Standard of Government Function Classification," it is necessary to design a business function with the reproduction of tasks, establish a system for management and operation in order to maintain the consistency of the business function, educate users, and suggest continuous improvement.

  • The classification accuracy of land cover has been considered as one of the major issues to estimate pollution loads generated from diffuse landuse patterns in a watershed. This research aimed to assess the effects of the acquisition methods and sampling size of training reference data on the classification accuracy of land cover using an imagery acquired by optical sensor(OPS) on JERS-1. Two kinds of data acquisition methods were considered to prepare training data. The first was to assign a certain land cover type to a specific pixel based on the researchers subjective discriminating capacity about current land use and the second was attributed to an aerial photograph incorporated with digital maps with GIS. Three different sizes of samples, 0.3%, 0.5%, and 1.0% of all pixels, were applied to examine the consistency of the classified land cover with the training data of corresponding pixels. Maximum likelihood scheme was applied to classify the land use patterns of JERS-1 imagery. Classification run applying an aerial photograph achieved 18 % higher consistency with the training data than the run applying the researchers subjective discriminating capacity. Regarding the sample size, it was proposed that the size of training area should be selected at least over 1% of all of the pixels in the study area in order to obtain the accuracy with 95% for JERS-1 satellite imagery on a typical small-to-medium-size urbanized area.

  • Objective: Various controlled vocabulary such as thesaurus and classification make us to reuse and share effectively by defining different concept and linking terms each other. The UMLS(Unified Medical Language System) is one of the most universal medical terminology systems. It is needed various methods to share and reuse information of traditional Korean medicine. We will research on method that adopt SUI of the UMLS(that is de facto standard in medical terminology system) in traditional Korean medical terminology. Method: We described major problems and applying process when we tried to add traditional Korean medicine in the part of meridian into the UMLS metathesaurus. Comparing western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms for applying UMLS metathesaurus, there is not only many consistency, but also differences. Result: We confirmed what is the differences and consistency between western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms. And then reviewed methods that apply the CUI, LUI, SUI in traditional Korean medical terms. Traditional Korean medical terms are not discriminated by singular or plural string. In addition, traditional Korean medical terms have vary string by initial law: the law of initial sound of a syllable. Character is described with Korean, traditional Chinese, modern Chinese, etc. According to meaning, language, initial law, SUI has a distinct value respectively. Conclusion: There are many differences to apply the UMLS between western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms. For the better implementation to traditional Korean medicine into the UMLS, further research is needed in standardization and classification of traditional Korean medical terms, medical information system, etc. We hope this study helps the implementation UMLS, EHR, knowledge based system in Oriental medicine in the future.

  • Building use classification is classified the building types according to the similar structure, the goal of the use, and its shape. The important reason of building use classification is that building restrictions are applied according to building use classifications. But there are a lot of confusion because the building use classification is regulated not only by the Building Act but also by the several individual Act. Particularly in the large-scaled, high-raised and complex building construction, it is very important to remain the consistency of the building use classification between the Building Act and the Fire-Fighting System Act for safety of occupants. So the purpose of this study is to suggests the improve direction of the building use classifications through the comparative analysis of the Building Act and the Fire-Fighting System Act.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the reliability and validity of Korean translation of Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI-K) in school-aged children with cerebral palsy (CP). The PEDI-K, Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM) and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMIFCS) were completed in 104 school-aged children with CP by therapists. The internal consistency of the PEDI-K was calculated by Cronbach's alpha (${\alpha}$) for assessing reliability. Concurrent validity was evaluated by correlation with the subsets of WeeFIM. Discriminant validity was assessed by comparing GMFCS levels with tests of the PEDI-K. The results showed that internal consistency was good (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ ranged from .97~.98). Concurrent validity was demonstrated. The correlation with WeeFIM was high in the Functional Skills (self-care, r=.74~.94; mobility, r=.59~.91; social function, r=.65~.93) and in the Caregiver Assistance (self-care, r=.75~.94; mobility, r=.63~.90; social function, r=.78~.96). Discriminant validity was demonstrated on significant decreases in domain scores with increasing GMFCS levels. Reliability and validity have been demonstrated on the PEDI-K. This study extends usage of PEDI-K in clinical activities and research.
