  • Objectives: We aimed to compare the external herbal dispensary (EHD) evaluation criteria for pharmacopuncture and the Korea Good Manufacturing Practice (KGMP) sterile medicine standards to contribute to the establishment of quality control criteria for pharmacopuncture. Methods: We obtained the KGMP standards from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the pharmacopuncture certification criteria from the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea. The EHD evaluation items were classified into three categories: facilities, quality control, and validation. The evaluation items were compared with the KGMP sterile medicine criteria to determine their conformance with each other, followed by a discussion among the committee of six experts and their consensus to suggest the items to complement the EHD evaluation criteria. Results: Among the KGMP sterile medicine criteria, 44 were related to the management of the facilities, and 32 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (66.7%). Fifty-eight KGMP criteria were related to quality management, and 42 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (72.4%). Twentyfive KGMP sterile medicine criteria were related to validation, and 11 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (44.0%). Sixteen items under the pharmacopuncture EHD criteria corresponded to the KGMP sterile medicine criteria based on the consent of the experts. Among these, 4 were related to facility management, 6 were related to quality control, and 6 were related to validation. Conclusion: For the safety and quality control of pharmacopuncture, there is a need to select the criteria for the mandatory items among the proposed pharmacopuncture-EHD criteria laws and systems to ensure that the pharmacopuncture materials are produced under the pharmacopuncture-EHD in compliance with the relevant requirements. More studies are needed to secure the safety level of pharmacopuncture materials corresponding to that of conventional medicine.

  • A spatial augmented reality (SAR) system enables a virtual image to be projected onto the surface of a real-world object and the user to intuitively control the image using a tangible interface. However, occlusions frequently occur, such as a sudden change in the lighting environment or the generation of obstacles. We propose a robust object tracker based on a multithreaded system, which can track an object robustly through occlusions. Our multithreaded tracker is divided into two threads: the detection thread detects distinctive features in a frame-to-frame manner, and the tracking thread tracks features periodically using an optical-flow-based tracking method. Consequently, although the speed of the detection thread is considerably slow, we achieve real-time performance owing to the multithreaded configuration. Moreover, the proposed outlier filtering automatically updates a random sample consensus distance threshold for eliminating outliers according to environmental changes. Experimental results show that our approach tracks an object robustly in real-time in an SAR environment where there are frequent occlusions occurring from augmented projection images.

  • Autonomous driving vehicle research demands complex road and lane understanding such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and centering, lane change and turn assist, and driving under complex road conditions. A fast and robust road lane detection subsystem is a basic but important building block for this type of research. In this paper, we propose a method that performs road lane detection from black box input. The proposed system applies Random Sample Consensus to find the best model of road lanes passing through divided regions of the input image under HSV color model. HSV color model is chosen since it explicitly separates chromaticity and luminosity and the narrower hue distribution greatly assists in later segmentation of the frames by limiting color saturation. The implemented method was successful in lane detection on real world on-board testing, exhibiting 86.21% accuracy with 4.3% standard deviation in real time.

  • The maternal transcription factor Dorsal (Dl) functions as both an activator and a repressor in a context-dependent manner to control dorsal-ventral patterning in the Drosophila embryo. Previous studies have suggested that Dl is an intrinsic activator and its repressive activity requires additional corepressors that bind corepressor-binding sites near Dl-binding sites. However, the molecular identities of the corepressors have yet to be identified. Here, we present evidence that Capicua (Cic) is involved in Dl-mediated repression in the zerkn$\ddot{u}$llt (zen) ventral repression element (VRE). Computational and genetic analyses indicate that a DNA-binding consensus sequence of Cic is highly analogous with previously identified corepressor-binding sequences and that Dl failed to repress zen expression in lateral regions of cic mutant embryos. Furthermore, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) shows that Cic directly interacts with several corepressor-binding sites in the zen VRE. These results suggest that Cic may function as a corepressor by binding the VRE.

  • A clear consensus has not been established regarding the best treatment for solitary bone metastasis. Here, we reviewed the medical records of patients with a controlled primary malignancy who had only solitary spine metastasis without metastasis to the extraspinal bone or viscera and underwent treatment between April 2007 and December 2012 with stereotactic body radiosurgery using CyberKnife, with a total dose of 24 Gy in three to four fractions. During that time, there were only four cases. This was effective in each case, and all the four patients had no local failure and remained alive at a median follow-up of 68 months (range, 64 to 80 months). Although our experience is limited, this study suggests that stereotactic body radiotherapy could be a feasible, safe, effective, and noninvasive alternative treatment for solitary spine metastasis in patients who are medically inoperable or unsuitable for surgery.

  • Gastric cancer is the second cause of cancer that is related to death and the fourth most common cancer, worldwide. Complete resection of cancer is the only curative treatment for gastric cancer. However, even if complete resection is possible, recurrence is frequently observed in Gastric patients. Therefore, adjuvant treatment modality for resectable gastric cancer is needed to increase the survival of patients. This study wants to describe the role of adjuvant chemotherapy for resectable gastric cancer, with updated data of recent studies. Several meta-analysis studies demonstrated a benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy for resectable gastric cancer. Due to the heterogeneity of the population and regimens, there is no consensus regarding the adjuvant chemotherapy. Recently published, well designed phase III studies demonstrated the statistically significance of adjuvant chemotherapy for the resectable gastric cancer, with the extended lymph node dissection. Further phase III trials, to determine the best regimen and schedule of adjuvant chemotherapy, was suggested to use the fluoropyrimidine based regimen as control group.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) networks composed of a large number of sensors and actuators generate a huge volume of data and control commands, which should be enforced by strong data reliability. The end-to-end data reliability of IoT networks is an essential industrial enabler. Blockchain technology can provide strong data reliability and integrity within IoT networks. We designed a lightweight end-to-end blockchain network that applies to common IoT applications. Its enhanced modular architecture and lightweight consensus mechanism guarantee its practical applicability for general IoT applications. In addition, the proposed blockchain network is highly software compatible because it adopts the Hyperledger development environment. Directly embedding the proposed blockchain middleware platform in small computing devices proves its practicability.

  • Adjunctive orthodontic therapy may be required to create appropriate space, to address misalignment and tooth size discrepancy for better function and esthetics. The desired interproximal alveolar contour and gingival embrasure form can be developed during treatment. Various applications of temporary anchorage devices for pre-prosthetic tooth movement allowed clinicians to achieve high efficiency, shorter treatment time, and less discomfort of patient. Biomechanical considerations for the periodontal status of the affected teeth are required to successfully control the vertical and horizontal space. Hence, the interdisciplinary approaches have an essential role in maximizing the favorable treatment outcome. In particular, pivotal Clinical decisions such as whether to open or close the space should be made by consensus of the involved dentists. This article presents the orthodontic treatment approaches for prosthodontic works including mesiodistal and vertical space regaining specially for cases of unrestored teeth over an extended period of time.

  • The small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins have been implicated in the pathology of a number of diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases. The conjugation machinery for SUMOylation consists of a number of proteins which are redox sensitive. Here, under oxidative stress ($100{\mu}M$ hydrogen peroxide), antioxidant ($100{\mu}M$ ascorbate) or control conditions 169 proteins were identified by electospray ionisation fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. The majority of these proteins (70%) were found to contain SUMOylation consensus sequences. From the remaining proteins a small number (12%) were found to contain possible SUMO interacting motifs. The proteins identified included DNA and RNA binding proteins, structural proteins and proteasomal proteins. Several of the proteins identified under oxidative stress conditions had previously been identified as SUMOylated proteins, thus validating the method presented.
