ATM based MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) is discussed for its provisioning QOS commitment capabilities, Traffic engineering and smooth migration for BcN in Korea. At this time, due to the comprehensive nature of ATM protocol, ATM has been adapted as the backbone system for carrying Internet traffic[1,2,3,4]. This paper presents preventive congestion control mechanisms for detecting HTR(Hard-To-Reach) LSP(Label Switched Path) in ATM based MPLS systems. In particular, we have introduced a HTR LSP detection method using network signaling information in an ATM layer. MPLS related studies can cover LSP failures in a physical layer fault, it can not impact network congestion status. Here we will present the research results for introducing HTR LSP detection methods and control mechanisms and this mechanism can be implementing as SOC for high speed processing a packet header. We concluded that it showed faster congestion avoidance abilities with a more reduced system load and maximized the efficiency of network resources by restricting ineffective machine attempts.
The role of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is to efficiently manipulate the traffic flow and reduce the cost in logistics by using the state of the art technologies which combine telecommunication, sensor, and control technology. Especially, the hardware part of ITS is rapidly adapting to the up-to-date techniques in GPS and telematics to provide essential raw data to the controllers. However, the software part of ITS needs more sophisticated techniques to take care of vast amount of on-line data to be analyzed by the controller for their decision makings. In this paper, the authors develop a traffic congestion prediction model based on several different parameters from the sensory data captured in the Vehicle Detection System (VDS). This model uses the neural network technology in analyzing the traffic flow and predicting the traffic congestion in the designated area. This model also validates the results by analyzing the errors between actual traffic data and prediction program.

Route failure is mainly caused by mobility of mobile host in ad hoc networks. Route failure, which may lead to sudden packet losses and delays, is losing the route from source to destination. In this situation, TCP assumes that congestion has occurred within the network and also initiates the congestion control procedures. Congestion control algorithm provides the means for the source to deal with lost packets. TCP performance in ad hoc environments will be degraded as TCP source cannot distinguish congestion from route failure. In this paper, we propose TCP-P as pre-detection approach to deal with route failure. TCP-P freezes TCP through pre-detection of route failure. Route failure information of the proposed mechanism is obtained not by routing protocol but by MAC protocol. The intermediated node, obtaining route failure information by its MAC layer, relays the information to TCP source and lets TCP source stop the congestion control algorithm. Results reveal that TCP-P responding with proactive manner outperforms other approaches in terms of communication throughput under the presence of node mobility.

When TCP operates in multi-hop wireless networks, it suffers from severe performance degradation due to the different characteristics of wireless networks and wired networks. This is because TCP reacts to wireless packet losses by unnecessarily decreasing its sending rate assuming the losses as congestion losses. Although several loss differentiation algorithms (LDAs) have been proposed to avoid such performance degradation, their detection accuracies are not high as much as we expect. In addition the schemes have a tendency to sacrifice the detection accuracy of congestion losses while they improve the detection accuracy of wireless losses. In this paper, we suggest a new sender-based loss differentiation scheme which enhances the detection accuracy of wireless losses while minimizing the sacrifice of the detection accuracy of congestion losses. Our scheme estimates the rate of queue usage which is highly correlated with the congestion in the network path between a TCP sender and a receiver, and it distinguishes congestion losses from wireless losses by comparing the estimated queue usage with a certain threshold. In the extensive experiments based on a network simulator, QualNet, we measure and compare each detection accuracy of wireless losses and congestion losses, and evaluate the performance enhancement in each scheme. The results show that our scheme has the highest accuracy among the LDAs and it improves the most highly TCP performance in multi-hop wireless networks.
Incident detection rate and false alarm rate are the key measures tot estimating the performance of automatic incident detection algorithms. It is, however inherently very difficult to improve the two measures simultaneously. The main purpose of this study is to present some methods for solving the problem. For this, an incident detection algorithm has been designed in this study. The algorithm is consisted of two functions, one for detecting incident and another for detecting congestion. A logic for distinguishing non-recurrent congestion from recurrent congestion was employed in the algorithm. The new algorithm basically requires speed, flow, and occupancy data for defining incident situation, but the algorithm is able to perform this task without one of the three parameters. The performance of the algorithm has been evaluated by using the field data collected from Interstate Highway 880 in Bay Area, California. The empirical analysis results are very promising and thus, the algorithm proposed may be very useful for the analysts. This paper presents some empirical test results for the performance of California incident detection algorithm, only for the reference purpose.
The network performance gets down during congestion periods to solve the problem effectively. A RED(Random Earl Detection) algorithm of the queue management algorithm is proposed and IETF recommends it as a queue management. A RED algorithm controls a congestion aspect dynamically. In analyzing parameters when static value of parameter is set in the gateway cannot be handled the status of current network traffic properly We propose the Effective RED algorithm to solve with the weakness of RED In this algorithm the maximum drop probability decides to accept or drop the interning packets, is adjusted dynamically on the current queue state for controlling the congestion phase effectively in the gateway. This algorithm is confirmed by computer simulation using the NS(Network Simulator)-2.

This paper ivestigates the performance of a relative rate (RR) switch algorithm for the rate-based available bit rate (ABR) flow control in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. A RR switch may notify the network congestion status to the source by suing the congestion indication (CI) bit or no increase (NI)bit in the backward RM (BRM) cells. A RR switch can be differently implemented according to the congestion detectio and notification methods. In this paper, we propose three implementation schemes for the RR switch with different congestion detection and notification methods, and analyze the allowed cell rate (ACR) of a source and the queue length of a switch in steady state. In addition, we derive the upper and lower bounds for the maximum and minimum queue lengths for each scheme respectively, and evaluate the effects of the ABR parameter values on the queue length. Furthermore, we suggest the range of the rage increase factor (RIF) and rate decrease factor (RDF) parameter values which can prevent buffer overflow and underflow at a switch.

In this paper, we introduce and analyze a feedback control model of TCP/AQM dynamics. Then, we propose the Pro-active Queue Management (PAQM) mechanism, which can provide proactive congestion avoidance and control using an adaptive congestion indicator and a control function for wide range of traffic environments. The PAQM stabilizes the queue length around a desired level while giving smooth and low packet loss rates independent of the traffic load level under a wide range of traffic environment. The PAQM outperforms other AQM algorithms such as Random Early Detection (RED) [1] and PI-controller [2]

This paper describes a modification to the SACK (Selective Acknowledgement) Transmission Control Protocol's (TCP), called SACK TCP with Probing Device, SACK works in conjunction with Probing Device, for improving SACK TCP performance when more than half a window of data lost that is typical in handoff as well as unreliable media. It shows that by slightly modifying the congestion control mechanism of the SACK TCP, it can be made to better performance to multiple packets lost from one window of data.

COSMOS system which was developed in Seoul for real-time signal control was designed to judge traffic condition for practicing signal operation. However, it occurs efficiency problem that stop line detection and queue length detection could not judge overflow saturation of street. For that reason, following research process GPS data of Seoul city's corporationowned taxi to calculate travel speed that excluded existing system of stop line detection and queue length detection. Also, "Research of calculating queue length by GPS data" which was progressed with following research expressed queue length. It is based on establishing algorithm of judging congestion situation. The algorithm was applied to a few areas where appeared congestion situation consistently to confirm real time traffic condition with established network.
