This paper describes the pattern synthesis method of two kinds of conformal array antenna using the Enhanced Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (EAGA). One is the $1{\times}16$ conformal array antenna on a curved cylindrical metallic surface with quadratic function, and the other is the 18-element conformal arrary antenna on a metallic surface obtained by the rotation of a quadratic function curve around the axis. The active element pattern is utilized in the pattern synthesis. Especially for the case of the rotated-type conformal array antenna the transformed active element pattern obtained from the Euler's angle rotation of the active element pattern of the planar concentric array is utilized, which reduces the synthesis time a lot. To verify the validity of the proposed synthesis method the MATLAB results are compared with the MWS results. Furthermore, for the case of $1{\times}16$ conformal array antenna the measured results are compared with the MATLAB synthesized results.

This paper proposes an optimum beam forming of conformal array antenna by using LSM(Least Squares Method) and GA(Genetic Algorithm). The weights which approximate conformal array antenna beam pattern to linear array antenna beam pattern have been evaluated by applying LSM. Also, the optimum locations of conformal array antenna which form wideband optimum beam pattern have been obtained by using GA. The proposed method is applied to a problem of Bezier platform array antenna for a verification purpose.

This paper describes the pattern synthesis of array antenna which conforms to a metallic curved surface formed by the rotation of a quadratic function by using EAGA(Enhanced Adaptive Genetic Algorithm). Three rotated-type conformal surfaces are realized by changing the coefficient of the quadratic function and the pattern of each conformal array antenna is synthesized. In order to reduce the overall time of pattern synthesis, the transformed active element pattern obtained by the active element pattern of the 2-dimensional planar array using Euler angles rotation is utilized instead of the active element pattern of the 3-dimensional conformal array antenna itself. To verify validity of the proposed synthesis procedure, the synthesized patterns using EAGA are compared with those obtained by MWS.

In this paper, a conformal type $1{\times}4$ microstrip patch array antenna with tilted antenna beam is presented for UWB sensor applications. Each antenna element comprises E-shaped patch with L-probe feeding to increase the bandwidth. The tilted antenna beam of 20 degree can be achieved with 42 ps microstrip delay lines at the series feeding network with T-junctions. The measured reflection coefficient is >9 dB at 3.5~4.5 GHz. The measured antenna gain and HPBW are >10 dBi and <30 degree at 3.75~4.25 GHz.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the wideband beamforming in a conformal phased array antenna by compensating the errors. For the wideband beamforming, we used the True Time Delay(TTD), which was fabricated on the RF circuit board to obtain long delay lines. Beamforming errors in the conformal array antenna are the mutual coupling between the array elements, the dispersive error in the TTD circuit, and the quantization error by the digital control. We apply the compensation algorithm to the conformal phased array antenna of wideband 2~4 GHz, and verify the usefulness by comparing the results with the experiment results.

In this paper, beam forming using moving least squares method (MLSM) is studied. In the previous research, the least squares method (LSM), one of the data interpolation methods, was used to determine the desired beam pattern and obtain a beam pattern that minimizes the square of the error with the desired beam pattern. However, LSM has a disadvantage in that the beam pattern can not be formed to satisfy the exact steering angle of the desired beam pattern and the peak sidelobe level (PSLL) condition. To overcome this drawback, MLSM is used for beam forming. In order to verify, the proposed method is applied in beam forming of Bezier platform array antenna which is one of conformal array antenna platform.

In this paper, we propose a new beamforming algorithm for a conformal array antenna based on support vector regression(SVR). While the conventional least squares method(LSM) considers all sample errors, SVR considers errors beyond the given error bound to obtain the optimum weight vector, which has a sparse solution and the advantage of the minimization of the overfitting problem. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we apply SVR to the experimentally measured active element patterns of the conformal array antenna and obtain the weights for beamforming. In addition, we compare the beamforming results of SVR and LSM.

In this paper, an array antenna for LOS datalink for mounting UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) of low-probability of intercept is presented. For low RCS, radome was designed by conformal form, and other components were inserted into the UAV. The antenna of the transmitter and receiver are each composed of 12×12 array antennas, and include a beam steering function by controlling the phase of the unit element for the Uni-directional pattern and the Bi-directional pattern. As a result of the measurement of the manufactured antenna, it was confirmed that all the required specifications were met, and the installing possibility of the UAV platform on low-probability of intercept in the future was confirmed.

This paper proposes an enhanced adaptive genetic algorithm(EAGA) dedicated to pattern synthesis of array antenna which conforms to a curved surface of rotation with quadratic function. EAGA combines adaptive genetic algorithm(AGA) with invasive weed optimization(IWO) for the faster convergence and the lower cost value of the cost function. The amplitude and phase of each excited weighting factor are optimized to meet the required goals using EAGA. The EAGA results indicate that the proposed algorithm is superior to AGA when applied to the problem of conformal array antenna pattern synthesis.

We propose a design method of a Rotman lens for curved array antenna applicable to conformal array. In this paper, design equations are derived to obtain an array curve, transmission line lengths of a Rotman lens in conjunction with a curved array antenna, and the phase error of a Rotman lens based on these design equations is minimized through the beam curve optimization procedure and the refocusing procedure. Rotman lenses designed by the proposed design equations and design procedures still maintain 3 focal points, can feed a convex or concave array antenna with circular curve, parabolic curve, V-shaped curve, etc as well as a straight line array antenna, and have minimal phase error.
