The purpose of this study is to identify patterns of learner behaviors, conflicting and facilitating factors during collaborative work in an online learning community(OLC). This study further seeks to investigate the difference of learner behaviors between high- and low-performing groups, and conflicting and facilitating factors. The online postings from four groups(19 students) in the spring semester(study 1) and six groups(24 students) in the fall semester(study 2) were analyzed. A coding scheme was generated based on constant comparison using the qualitative data analysis tool, NVivo. The analysis identified 7 categories of learner behaviors in both studies. Among the seven categories, information seeking and co-construction were most frequently observed in both studies. One evident difference between the high- and low-performing groups was that the high-performing groups revealed more incidents of learner behaviors in both studies. In addition, six categories of conflicting factors and five categories of facilitating factors were emerged in both studies. The inefficiency of work category was one of the most frequently observed categories in both studies. Interestingly, the high-performing groups showed more incidents of conflicting factors than the low-performing groups. This study revealed two different types of conflicting factors and there is a need for different moderating strategies depending on its type. Based on the results of the study, effective design strategies for an OLC to facilitate active learning were suggested.
The aim of this study was to analyze conflicting factors between Korean and Chinese Kitchen staff within the Chinese restaurants if hotels, and formulate a plan for resolving problems. A closed-end questionnaire was used for survey, which was conducted between 30 April 2005 and 4 June 2005. The survey was conducted among Koran and Chinese (China/Taiwan) cooking staff at Chinese restaurants within 5 star hotels located in Seoul, Korea. 231 questionnaires were distributed to the staff members, and the data collected and analyzed Form the results, Chinese staffs that have more cooking experience were found to be in higher positions and receive higher salaries. In addition, compared to Korean staff, the Chinese staff had fewer problems with conflicts from personnel adminstration, personnel adminstration, personal/psychological areas, benefits/rewards and relationship with their outlet manager. Conversely, Korean staff experience more disagreements in each conflict factor area than Chinese staff, implying there is a divergence between Korean and Chinese staff.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the facilitating and conflicting factors on the emerging technologies and trends predicted to impact future education in Korea. To do this, open online questionnaires on 20 emerging technologies and trends derived from a comprehensive literature review were completed by 24 experts in research, policy, schools, and corporate fields, and a content analysis of the collected qualitative data was conducted. As a result of the study, the effectiveness of the content and the maturity of technology were found to be the most important facilitating factors and obstacles. In addition, the potential for innovative teaching and learning methods and motivation, and the maturity and popularity of technology were found to be the main facilitating factors. On the other hand, health problems and negative effects on students in ethical aspects, the lack of research and development, and poor networks and infrastructures in terms of education environment were found to be the main impeding factors of emerging technologies and trends.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the present status of the work performance of the construction industry health managers and the developmental direction for the construction industry health management. Methods: The subjects of this study were 149 health managers working in the construction industry. Data of a total of 130 participants were analyzed by excluding the missing data among field workers. The contents of the survey were the characteristics of the workplace, the difficulties and requirements of health management, and the level of job performance. Results: The factors affecting measuring work environment task were age, number of workers, number of safety managers, and lack of support from the headquarters. The factors affecting managing work environment and physicochemical harmful factors were age, type of contract and conflicting business opinions. The factors affecting implementing health examination were age, type of contract, and number of safety managers. The factors affecting healthcare were age, type of contract, number of safety manager, presence of healthcare room, and conflicting business opinions. Conclusion: It is necessary to provide practical guidance and practical resources, and education for strengthening capacity. The support for business owners and managers support is needed.
The purpose of this study is to promote the efficiency of the management of the controls organization in the university hospitals and general hospitals by evaluating the factors underlying organizational conflict. The subject population included 351 hospital workers randomly selected from two general hospitals of less than 200 beds and two university hospitals over 500 beds in Seoul area. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire. To define related factors for the level of conflict among departments in each hospitals multivariate regression analysis was conducted. Independent factors were characteristics of subjects, conflicting factors between the departments. The results are as follows: 1. Those in high job position group demonstrated significantly higher level of conflict between departments. Those working in the general hospitals, who were older and had long-term tenure at current working hospital had higher level of conflict between the departments. 2. Concerning the involvement of conflicting factors and the level of conflict in the employees' there was statistically significant positive correlation between reliability and job-related and intradepartmental level of conflict in university hospitals. There was a significant positive correlation between interdepartmental conflicting factors of mutual dependence, difference in goal/orientation and interdepartmental level of conflict. 3. In the university hospitals, among the interdepartmental factors, mutual dependence and difference in goal/orientation had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the general hospitals, job position was a significant factor which showed that those in high position such as section chief or above, compared to those in general position had higher level of conflict. Among the interdepartmental characteristics, factors of mutual dependence and goal/orientation had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the general hospitals setting efforts to reduce conflict in areas among workers with high position, old age, and long tenure and those in medical care department should be made and prudent management and planning for improved manpower and increased budget or efficient allocation and clear definition of job description are necessary to adequately assess. In the university hospitals setting efforts to reexaminitation of the organizational structure and efficiency conveyance of information and efforts to resolve conflict among young workers with lower level of education is need. This study has its own merit in comparing empirically the conflict among hospital workers in the university hospitals and general hospitals. Future study are needed with respect to the relationship between interdepartmental level of conflict and the effectiveness of the hospital organization for improved resolution of conflict in the organization and hospital management.
The purpose of this study is to assess the cause and level of conflict arising within and between departments among administration office workers who work in a recently established tertiary hospitals of a major cooperation or related non-profit cooperation: The study also aimed to find methods for resolution of such conflicts by comparing with other existing university hospitals. The subject population included 299 business administration office workers randomly selected from two cooperate related tertiary hospitals of less than 3 years in its existence and two university hospitals over 700 beds in Seoul and Kyong In area. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire. To define related factors for the level of conflict among departments in each hospitals multivariate regression analysis was conducted. Independent factors were characteristics of subjects, conflicting factors within and between the departments. The results are as follows: 1. Those in the 30-39 rears of age group demonstrated significantly higher level of conflict between departments. Those working in the new hospitals, who were older and had long-term tenure, and those with short-term job experience at current working hospital had higher level of conflict between the departments with statistical significance. 2. Concerning the involvement of conflicting factors and the level of conflict in the administration there was statistically significant positive correlation between reliability and job-related intra- and interdepartmental level of conflict in existing hospitals. There was a significant positive correlation between intradepartmental conflicting factors of mutual dependence, difference in goal/orientation and intra- and interdepartmental level of conflict. 3. In multivariate regression analysis, women more than men, and those who had worked for many years in hospitals had statistically significant influence on factors involved in interdepartmental level of conflict, explaining 51.0% of the model. 4. In existing hospitals, gender was a significant factor with women showing a higher level of interdepartmental conflict compared to men. Among the interdepartmental factors, mutual dependence had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the new hospitals, job position was a significant factor which showed that those in high position such as section chief or above, compared to those in managerial or general position had higher level of conflict. Among the interdepartmental characteristics, factors of mutual dependence and goal/orientation had statistically significant influence and showed a positive relationship with interdepartmental level of conflict. In the new hospital setting efforts to reduce conflict in areas among workers with high position, old age, and long tenure and those in Purchasing, Material and Computer Department should be made and prudent management and planning for improved manpower and increased budget or efficient allocation and clear definition of job description are necessary to adequately assess and make improved efforts for rapid stabilization of the premature hospital system from its inception, In the existing hospitals a lack of conflict within and between departments may give rise to stagnation or inefficiency of the organization. Future study are needed with respect to the relationship between interdepartmental level of conflict and the effectiveness of the hospital organization for improved resolution of conflict in the organization and hospital management.

The socio-economic and environmental systems of world are in turmoil. International conflicts are placed in their geographical context through the integration of maps. It is essential to embed product quality in the design process to win the global competition. Many components found in many products including automobiles and electronic devices are fabricated using sheet metal forming processes. Wrinkle and fracture are two types of defects frequently found in the sheet metal forming process. Reducing such defects is a hard problem as they are affected by many uncontrollable factors. Attempts to solve the problem based on traditional deterministic optimization theories are often led to failures. Furthermore, the wrinkle and fracture are conflicting defects in such a way that reducing one defect leads to increasing the other. Hence, it is a difficult task to reduce both of them at the same time. In this research, a new design method for reducing the rates of conflicting defects under uncontrollable factors is presented by using operating window and a sequential search procedure. A new SN ratio is proposed to overcome the problems of a traditional SN ratio used in the operating window technique. The method is applied to optimizing the robust design of a sheet metal forming process. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, a comparison is made between the traditional and the proposed methods using simulation software, applied to a design of particular sheet metal forming process problem. The results show that the proposed method always gives a more robust design that is less sensitive to noises than the traditional method.

Change is inevitable and is a reality of construction projects. Most construction contracts include change clauses and allowing contractors an equitable adjustment to the contract price and duration caused by change. However, the actions of a contractor can cause a loss of productivity and furthermore can result in disruption of the whole project because of a cumulative or ripple effect. Because of its complicated nature, it becomes a complex issue to determine the cumulative impact (ripple effect) caused by single or multiple change orders. Furthermore, owners and contractors do not always agree on the adjusted contract price for the cumulative impact of the changes. A number of studies have attempted to quantify the impact of change orders on project costs and schedule. Many of these attempted to develop regression models to quantify the loss. However, regression analysis has shortcomings in dealing with many qualitative or noisy input data. This study develops ANN models to classify and quantify the labor productivity losses that are caused by the cumulative impact of change orders. The results show that ANN models give significantly improved performance compared to traditional statistical models.

For product or process design and development, it is common to optimize multiple responses (characteristics) based on experimental data. To determine optimal conditions, we need to design the experiment, estimate a proper model for each response, and optimize the multiple responses simultaneously. There are several techniques and many research results on optimizing multiple responses simultaneously, when the experimental data are available. However, the experimental design issue for optimizing multiple responses has not been discussed yet. This paper proposes some idea on how to plan screening design when requirements for multiple performance characteristics are to be met in developing new products. A screening design procedure is developed for securing the requirements of multiple responses. Initial design factors are classified into three categories; specific, non-conflicting common, and conflicting common. After screening experiments, follow-up design region search method is suggested with respect to the most unsatisfied or important response, or overall desirability. A case study on a synthesis of melamine formaldehyde resin is presented to illustrate the procedure and to show the validity of the approach.
