A series of the studies on the applied physical properties of domestic species have been conducted last three years. Liriodendron tulipifera, Betula costata, Paulownia coreana were examined on sorption property, thermal property, electric property, acoustic property. Because the same apparatus and experimental procedures were used for all species, their results can be easily comparable. The experiments for sorption property were conducted with 80 mesh wood powder and resulted in their EMC's and sorption isotherms. The thermal conductivity and diffusivity, and electric resistance and volumetric electric resistivity were measured with a thermal-wire device and a high electric resistance meter. The differences of the thermal and electric properties between quarter-and flat-sawn specimens were observed, which was partially attributed to their anatomical differences. An acoustic measurement system was used to evaluate dynamic MOE and internal friction. This paper provides the useful fundamental data for designing a wood structure, correcting a portable resistance-type moisture meter, and acoustic properties of wood.

A series of the studies on the applied physical properties of domestic species have been conducted last three years. Pinus densiflora was one of the three species examined for the first year. Because the same apparatus and experimental procedures were used for all species, their results can be easily comparable. The experiments for sorption property were conducted with 20- and 80-mesh wood powder and resulted in their EMC's and sorption isotherms at various heating conditions. The thermal conductivity and diffusivity, and electric resistance and volumetric electric resistivity were measured with a thermal-wire device and a high electric resistance meter. The differences of the thermal and electric properties between quarter- and flat-sawn specimens were observed, which was partially attributed to their anatomical differences. This paper provides the useful fundamental data for designing a wood structure, correcting a portable resistance-type moisture meter, and nondestructive testing wood.
Average hydraulic conductivity was $2.64{\times}10^{-8}m/sec$ average RQD was 78%, average porosity was 0.51%, and range of groundwater level was $77.06{\sim}125.97m$ by measured in 8 boreholes at the Surak Mt. tunnel area. Groundwater level of two peaks in the Surak Mt. tunnel area were estimated through linear regression analysis for groundwater level versus elevation. And, average horizontal hydraulic gradient in the Surak Mt. tunnel area was calculated 0.267. Minimum, maximum, and average hydraulic conductivities that estimated by field tests were $5.56{\times}10^{-9}m/sec,\;6.12{\times}10^{-8}m/sec,\;and\;2.64{\times}10^{-8}m/sec$, respectively. Groundwater discharge rates per 1 meter that estimated using minimum, maximum, and average hydraulic conductivities and average horizontal hydraulic gradient were $0.00585m^2/day,\;0.06434m^2/day,\;and\;0.02775m^2/day$, respectively. Pure groundwater recharge rate per unit recharge area was calculated 223.96 mm/yr through water balance analysis. Prediction simulation of groundwater level fluctuation with minimum, maximum, and average hydraulic conductivities were conducted. Discharge rate into the Surak Mt. tunnel for minimum hydraulic conductivity was small, but groundwaer drawdown was highly. Discharge rate into the Surak Mt. tunnel for maximum hydraulic conductivity was higher, but groundwaer level was recovered quickly.

Caprylic/Capric triglyceride-in-water emulsions stabilized by Nikkol HCO-60 and HCO-10 were prepared using emulsion inversion point method at different HLB values. Emulsions with various droplet sizes were formed, and emulsion inversion point was detected by electrical conductivity. The change in emulsion droplet sizes and long term stability were monitored using laser scattering method and visual method. The droplet sizes and stability of emulsions were affected by HLB of surfactant. At emulsion inversion point, the water volume fraction increased as the HLB of surfactants decreased. According to our analysis, this resulted from a tendency of forming the W/O (water-in-oil) emulsion as the HLB of surfactants was decreased. The emulsion inversion point was clearly detected by the microscope and the electric conductivity meter. Nanometer-sized emulsion was obtained at the optimum HLB by using emulsion inversion point method. The main pattern of instability of emulsions in HLB 12 and 13 systems was Ostwald ripening. However, The patterns of instability of emulsions below 11 of HLB systems were Ostwald ripening and coalescence. All emulsions produced with surfactants in the range of HLB 8-13, creaming caused by density difference between water phase and oil phase.
Indiscriminate disposal of waste and citation of open dumpsites are some of the key factors affecting the various soil geotechnical properties. Atterberg limit and consolidation tests were conducted to determine the effects of two open waste dumpsites (Uselu Market and New Benin) on geotechnical properties of their underlying soils. Soil sample collected from Uselu Market dumpsite in Benin City metropolis showed slightly lower hydraulic conductivity (K) of $1.0{\times}10^{-6}$ with plasticity index of 18.53% compared to sample collected 1.6 m from the same dumpsite which had high K value of $2.42{\times}10^{-3}$ with plasticity index of 6.9%. Soil sample collected from New Benin dumpsite in Benin City metropolis showed slightly lower K of $1.45{\times}10^{-6}$ with plasticity index of 13.8% than sample collected 1.6 m from the same dumpsite which had high K value of $2.14{\times}10^{-2}$ with plasticity index of 6.0%. X-ray florescent analyser (X-MET 7000) and direct soil pH meter were used to determine the composition of the aforementioned soil samples. The result of samples collected from both dumpsites indicated a low hydraulic conductivity compared to samples collected 1.6 m from both dumpsites. Also, the chemical composition and pH of both dumpsite underlying soils indicated high level of soil contaminants with pH of 3.3 and 3.5 which is very acidic unlike pH of other samples which were in the neutral range (6.8-7.1). Hence, a liner is recommended for all dumpsites or engineered landfill systems to mitigate against the challenges associated with open waste dumping system in the environment.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an MBL instrument in laboratory execution by analyzing an experimental time and student to student interactions in the MBL and traditional method of the acid-base titration experiment. The MBL method used a conductivity sensor and the traditional method used a current meter on the HCl/NaOH titrations. In comparison of the two methods, the traditional method required more time than the MBL and most of the extra time were used in the execution. In the execution, the MBL method showed more numbers of student to student interaction and higher level of verbal interaction than the traditional method.

The electrical resistivity methods have been commonly used for figuring out the ground layers. The purpose of this paper, differently from previous methods, is not only to figure out the layers but also to develope a equipment and a method to analyze ground porosity. Equipment has a shape of cone, which can be coupled with drilling rods. A field penetration test was performed to test application in Incheon Chungla area. Through the field test soil resistances were measured. To calculate soil porosity along the depth, Archie's law is applied. The results show that a new equipment and porosity analysis method using Archie's law can distinguish soil layers and precisely measure soil porosity.

Nanostructuring the electrode surface is an emerging technology to improve the performance of supercapacitors since it can facilitate charge transfer, ion diffusion and electron propagation during electrochemical process. Fabrication of the electrode consisting of two or more materials together has also been focused on since it can provide synergetic effect such as broader working potential range and enhanced capacitance. In this work, we have used polyaniline (PANi) and manganese oxide (MnO2) as electrode materials. PANi is one of the promising electrode materials due to its high electrochemical activity, high doping level and stability. MnO2 is also widely studied material for supercapacitors since it is relatively cheap and environmentally friendly. Firstly, we synthesized polystyrene nanospheres on MnO2 nanoparticles. MnO2-incorporated PANi hollow nanospheres were then fabricated by polymerizing aniline monomers on these PS nanospheres and dissolving the inner PS spheres. The surface morphology, electronic absorption and electrical conductivity of the electrode were analyzed using field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), UV-visible spectrometer, and sheet resistivity meter, respectively. The electrochemical properties such as capacitance of the supercapacitors were also estimated using cyclic voltammetry.
Electronic working length determination is based on the electrical impedence between the root canal and the periodontal ligament Different canal irrigants with different electric conductivity may effect on the accuracy of the electronic mechanism. 0.9% Saline, 2.5% NaOCl and 3% $H_2O_2$ were evaluated either in wet or in dry condition. The results were as follows. 1. The electrical resistance mearured by Impedence Meter (Model #253, portland, USA) were 1 $K{\Omega}$ in 0.9% Saline, 0.1$K{\Omega}$ in 2.5% NaOCl and 48 $K{\Omega}$ in 3% $H_2O_2$. 2. Saline measured -0.57mm from the actual canal length and had significant difference. When dried with paper points, however, it measured -0.25mm demonstrating no statistical difference. 3. 2.5% NaOCl measured -4.07mm in wet and -2.26mm in dry condition and both showed significant difference from the actual canal length. 4. 3% $H_2O_2$ measured +0.02mm in wet and -0.09mm in dry canals and both appeared to be within acceptable range for the electronic working length mechanism.
