  • A feasibility study on the seismic design of nuclear reactor buildings with application of a seismic isolation system is introduced. After the Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake in Japan of 1995, seismic isolation technologies have been widely employed for commercial buildings. Having become a mature technology, seismic isolation systems can be applied to NPP facilities in areas of high seismicity. Two reactor buildings are discussed, representing the PWR and BWR buildings in Japan, and the application of seismic isolation systems is discussed. The isolation system employing rubber bearings with a lead plug positioned (LRB) is examined. Through a series of seismic response analyses using the so-named standard design earthquake motions covering the design basis earthquake motions obtained for NPP sites in Japan, the responses of the seismic isolated reactor buildings are evaluated. It is revealed that for the building structures examined herein: (1) the responses of both isolated buildings and isolating LRBs fulfill the specified design criteria; (2) the responses obtained for the isolating LRBs first reach the ultimate condition when intensity of motion is 2.0 to 2.5 times as large as that of the design-basis; and (3) the responses of isolated reactor building fall below the range of the prescribed criteria.

  • The mold YH-69 producing pigments was isolated from soil, and identified as Monascus sp.. For the production of the pigments from the mold, the best condition was observed with 6% rice powder with 200 mesh, 0.2% yeast extract, 0.3% ammonium sulfate, and 0.02% ZnSO4 at pH 5 and 30$\circ$ for 6 day with reciprocal shaking.

  • In this study, it is aimed to prevent the spread of pollutants in the event of a major disaster caused by CBRNE accidents and attacks and build up system to provide optimal transport environment for each patient condition By identifying characteristics of existing products and make them immediately applicable in the field. The purpose of this study is suggesting essential consideration in both functional and performance in the development of the isolation unit. As a result of the study, it suggests (1) basic function, (2) efficient field utilization, (3) isolation unit interface and combination of modules in development of isolation unit.

  • In this paper, aerials gas pipeline vibrations due to the passing of vehicles have been measured, and peak values and characteristics of vibration were analyzed. In order to develop isolation system for gas pipeline, six cases with various support condition and hanging method were tested. The hanger used instead of wore rope isolated almost all vibrations transmitted from main beam. In the results of test, we could decrease response of vibration velocity from 49 % to 56 % and response of vertical vibration acceleration from 49 % to 60 %, because hanger instead of wire rope was used and rubber pads instead of wooden shield plates at support positions for Proofing horizontal vibration were used.

  • A base isolation system is proposed for earthquake protection of structures. The system incorporates spherical supports for the base, a specially designed spring-cam system to keep the base rigidly supported under normal condition and to allow it to move for the duration of the earthquake under the constraint of a spring with optimized non-linear characteristics. A single-story model is constructed to investigate the feasibility of the concept. Numerical simulations of the system as well as experimental results show that 95% reduction of the transmitted force to the structure can be achieved. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this isolation mechanism, the maximum dynamic bending stress developed at predetermined critical points within the frame of the structure is measured. Significant reduction of the dynamic stresses is obtained.

  • The schematic design process is formulated to develop the vibroisolating rubber mount in optical disc drives. The dynamic model of vibration isolation system is established by using a rigid body with 6 degree of freedom and linear springs with damping property. Considering the practical vibration condition of DVDP(Digital Versatile Disk Player), the required properties of vibroisolating rubber mounts are investigated. Also finite element model of a vibroisolating rubber mount is used to obtain shape design concept and identify the characteristics of a rubber mount which satisfies the required properties from previous design stage. Finally the evaluation method of dynamic properties of vibroisolating rubber mounts is established by utilizing modal test method. Based on the developed process, vibroisolating rubber mounts with a good performance have been developed.

  • In this paper, an $\mathfrak{H}$_/$\mathfrak{H}_{\infty}$ fault detection and isolation (FDI) observer design problem is investigated for discrete-time delayed systems. To that end, a bank consisting of the sensor's number of observers is introduced. Each residual should be sensitive to a certain partial group of faults, but robust against the disturbance as far as possible. We formulate this multiobjective FDI problem as $\mathfrak{H}$_/$\mathfrak{H}_{\infty}$ observers design problem. Sufficient design condition is expressed as iterative linear matrix inequalities. The fault is then detected and isolated by evaluating the residuals through an FDI decision logic. A computer simulation is provided for verification of the proposed technique.

  • In this paper, a new fault detection and isolation algorithm fur inertial sensor system is proposed. To identify the inertial sensor fault, single antenna GPS receiver is used as an effective redundancy source. To use GPS receiver as redundancy for the inertial sensors, the algorithm to estimate the attitude and acceleration using single antenna GPS receiver is adopted. By using Doppler shift of carrier phase signal and kinetic characteristics of aircraft, attitude information of aircraft can be obtained at the coordinated flight condition. Based on this idea, fault diagnosis algorithm for inertial sensors using single antenna GPS based attitude is proposed. For more effective FDI, decision variables considering the aircraft maneuver are proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through the numerical simulations.
