A 4-story reinforced concrete structure built above an underground parking garage shows some slab deflections, and the deflections of the concrete floor slabs are proposed to be alleviated by the application of light-weight topping material in conjunction with localized strengthening of the slabs. The application of light-weight concrete topping on the existing slab has been simulated and its performance to anticipated loads has been analyzed. The application of light-weight topping material imposes additional weight on the exiting floor slabs. This added weight on the existing slabs causes over-stressing of the slabs. This over-stressing can be alleviated by enhancing the load carrying capacity of the existing slabs. Additional load carrying capacity in the existing slabs can be developed by localized strengthening of the slabs utilizing techniques such as the application of fiber-reinforced composites on the bottom surface of the slabs, and application of fiber-reinforced composites adequately complements the capacity of the existing slabs to bear the additional load imposed by light-weight leveling material. Additional moments in the beam and columns induced by the application of the light-weight topping material were tabulated and compared with capacity. The moment D/C ratios of the beam and columns are well the range of acceptable limits, and the beam and columns are not overstressed by the application of the surcharge.
In this study, physical properties of normal concrete, magnetite concrete, EAF concrete, and EAF concrete with added iron powder were evaluated and a feasibility of radiation shielding is also evaluated through irradiation tests against X-rays and gamma-rays. While the unit weight of EAF concrete (3.21 t/㎥) appeared lower than that of magnetite concrete (3.50 t/㎥), the results in compressive strength of EAF concrete were greater than those in magnetite and normal concrete. While the radiation transmission rate of normal concrete reaches 26.0% in the X-ray irradiation test, only 6.0% and 9.0% of transmission rate were observed in magnetite concrete and linear relationship with unit volume weight and radiation shielding. In the gamma-ray irradiation test, the performance of EAF and magnetite concretes appeared to be similar. Through the results on the excellent physical properties and radiation shielding performance a potential applicability of EAF concrete to radiation shielding was verified.

The objective of this study is to investigate the compressive strength property of antiwashout underwater concrete with curing water through experimental researches. Type of casting and curing water(fresh water, sea water) are used as main experimental parameter, additionally a few variables affecting compressive strength property are used ; water-cement ratio (45%, 48%, 50%, 52%, 55%), and unit weight of admixtures (antiwashout underwater agent ; 0.6%, 0.8%, 1.0%, 1.2%, 1.4% of unit weight of water, superplasticizer ; 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% of unit weight of cement)) Compressive strength level of antiwashout underwater concrete which was cast and cured in fresh water is higher than other one. Consequently, incremental modulus has to increase when the antiwashout underwater concrete is made use of underwater work from ocean.

This study is intended to present the properites of planting concrete using the light-weight aggregate and crushed aggregate. According to the result of experiment, the concrete using orchid stone shows a better performance in voids volume, unit weight, absorbtion, thermal conductivity and pH, which are helpful for planting and heat isolation. Therefore, if planting concrete used with orchid stone are utilized to be the planting base on the building's roof, it will be effective to reduced the cost of construction and heating due to the redution of building's self weight and heat isolation effection.

Normally, the degradation of concrete member exposed to fire is largely dependent on the fire scale and fire condition. With all ensuring the fire resistance structure as a method of setting the required cover thickness to fire, the RC is significantly affected from the standpoint of its structural stability that the compressive strength and elastic modulus is reduced by fire. Thus, this study is concerned with experimentally investigating fire resistance of high strength-light weight concrete. From the test result, high strength-light weight concrete is happened explosive spalling. The decrease of cross section caused by explosive spalling made sharp increasing gradient of inner temperature.

The propose of this study is to discover the extrusion lightweight concrete panel mixing by admixture. The standard of water ratio 50% and weight substitution 0%, 10% by Fly-ash. When the products are manufactured, it is used to maintain its form weight substitution and addition among the viscosity agent each Silica-fume and Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose. The study is basic properties and performances of extrusion lightweight concrete panels. Testing methods was specific gravity, water absorption, resistance to impact, thermal conductivity, and sound insulation.
The purpose of this paper is to understand the shear characteristics of the shear connectors embedded into light weight concrete. This paper tried to confirm the validity of the finite element method(FEM) through the comparative study between the previous study results and FEM analysis, and evaluated the shear strength of shear connector and current design codes(AISC-LRFD and Eurocode 4) according to the variation of compressive strength of light weight concrete. This paper resulted that the shear strength of connector embedded into light weight concrete closely agreed to the one of shear connector by Eurocode 4 based on the results of the FEM analysis.

Low frequency heavy-weight impact noise is the most irritating noise in Korean high-rise reinforced concrete apartment buildings. This low frequency noise is generated by foot traffic due to the fact that Koreans do not wear shoes at home. The transmission of the noise is facilitated by a load bearing wall structural system without beams and columns which is used in these buildings. In order to control low frequency heavy-weight impact noise, floating floors using isolation materials such as glass-wool mat and poly-urethane mat are used. However, it was difficult to control low frequency heavy-weight impact sound using isolation material. In this study, reinforcement of concrete slab using beams and plate was conducted. Using the FEM analysis, the effect of concrete slab reinforcement using FRP(fiber-glass reinforced plastic) on the bang machine impact vibration acceleration level and sound were conducted at the standard floor impact sound test building. The $3{\sim}4dB$ floor impact vibration acceleration level and impact sound pressure level were reduced and the natural frequency of slabs were changed.
The cost on transmission and erection of the precast prestressed concrete members largely depends on the weight of them. Optimum process is performed on a U-beam section to control the prestressing force, to reduce the self-weight, and to meet the required strength and stability. The strength, deflection, and concrete stress at the top and bottom of the section considered are required to check according to each construction step in this process. The weight of the original rectangular concrete beam could be reduced up to 39∼50% from this method. Two full scale prototype U-beams were proposed and tested in this study. It was found that the U-beams in the test showed good performance in strength and serviceability within the limits of ultimate strength design method.
Recently, it is increased the use of High-Strength Light-Weight Concrete(HLC) in the high-rise buildings and mega-structures. But there are a few research on the bond behavior of HLC, so it need to study about that. The present study was performed to investigate the bond characteristics of HLC. Major test variables include concrete compressive strength(f'c), concrete cover(c), bond length (${\ell}_{db}$), and bar diameter($d_b$). Test results indicate that the bond stress of HLC is increased with the increment of $\sqrt{f'_c}$ and concrete cover, bond stress is decreased with increment of bond length and bar diameter. And the final failure mode such as splitting or pullout failure is significantly affected by the concrete cover to bar diameter ratios(C/$d_b$). Test results were compared with ACI code and other proposed equations. The bond stress of HLC is higher than that of normal-strength normal-weight concrete, but lower than that of high-strength normal-weight concrte. Considering the present test results, modification factor(${\lambda}$= 1.3) of bond length in ACI 318-95 code for light-weight concrete is may have to be reviewed to apply to HLC.
