  • Recently the concrete slab tracks are being constructed on roadbed in the Kyong-bu 2nd stage high speed railways. In responding to this trend, new design standards and track materials maintenance systems, based on the slab track material safety and usage perspective, are needed. This research provides the design standards and the maintenance system. The proposed standards and the maintenance system are based on the track theory and the track-train interaction program developed, where the roadbed displacement and train speed are utilized as mediating variables. In the analysis, the dynamic response of track-train interaction apply to various speeds and displacements. the roadbed displacement is shown in a sine curve, the scope of the displacement occurrence, presented in its wavelenths, include 6meters, 10meters, 15meters, 20meters, 30meters. the train speeds involved are 50,100, 150,200,250,300,350,400 kilometers per hour.

  • The construction of concrete slab track system is increased because the system has advantages which are maintenance free and so on, the other side, the system has weak points such as increase of the cost of the early stage construction. Recently, railway environment is issued including noise. Therefore, measures which are to mitigate noise on slab tracks were introduced, however, it is found that efficiency of noise reduction is low because noise problem is still issued. In this study, to grasp noise characteristics on slab tracks we measured noise on high speed rail slab track in addition Saemaul and Moogungwha and the results have done comparative analysis.

  • Up to now, the only way is Floating Slab Track System, which cuts off vibration by installing spring between concrete slab and ground for the lines of particularly requiring attenuating vibration. The weak point of Floating Slab Track System is large increase of construction cost because normally the structure is getting bigger. In regards to this matter, Floating Rail Track System has been developed, which cuts off vibration by floating the first cause of vibration rail, and the system is in operation. In the thesis, the application of new attenuating vibration track system has been confirmed by studying theoretical background of Floating Rail Track System and evaluating dynamic deflection of track and attenuating of noise and vibration performance through various measurements from laboratory tests and site inspection.

  • In this paper, the effects of initial built-in deformation and temperature deformation on the stress distribution of discontinuous precast concrete track slab under train load were examined. According to the results, when train load is put on a precast concrete slab with initial built-in deformation and deformation due to temperature gradient, the maximum tensile stresses develop at the upper side of slab in the slab center, edge center and corner of shear pocket; the stress distribution is different from that of the case under train load only. Therefore, to accurately predict the actual weak points and failure modes, one should calculate the stress under train load considering the initial built-in and temperature deformation of the slab.

  • Superimposition of vertical and transition curves is not allowed for all types of tracks in Korean regulation of railway construction. However, this criterion has been established on the basis of difficulty of maintenance of the ballasted track. Comparing with the ballasted track, the concrete slab track has the advantage of maintenance and structural, which allows the superimposition of vertical and transition curves when it satisfies the criteria of running safety and riding comfort. In this study, running safety, ride comforts and track acting forces were analyzed and compared by numerical analysis using VAMPIRE program when the vertical and transition curves are superimposed for the ballasted track as well as the concrete slab track. From the analysis results, it was found that running safety, riding comforts and track acting forces in case of superimposition of vertical and transition curves for the both tracks meet all of the criteria. Therefore, although superimposition of vertical and transition curves for the ballasted track is not allowed because of a lot of maintenance works, it can be applied to the concrete slab track considering the advantage of maintenance and structural safety.

  • Recently, an interest on joint behavior between adjacent concrete slab tracks has increasing due to large application of such track system. Dowel bars are widely used to improve load transfer capacity across the joints. Dowel bars reduce the deflections and stresses by transferring the load between the slabs. This study proposes the lumped shear spring model to efficiently model dowel joints of adjacent slabs. This model includes bearing stiffness between dowel bar and concrete as well as dowel gap. Strength of the proposed spring model is evaluated based on Concrete Capacity Design method under the assumption of shear failure mode in the joints. Experiments are also performed up to failure to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed model. It has been observed that the proposed model is able to predict initial nonlinearity due to dowel gap, and capture material nonlinearity of the test slabs. Thus, it is recommended that the proposed model can be effectively applied to the dowel joints of concrete slab track.

  • Sliding slab track system, which consists of low friction sliding layer between track slab and bridge deck, is recently devised to reduce track-bridge interaction effect of continuously welded rail(CWR) without applying special devices such as rail expansion joint(REJ). In this study, a series of track-bridge interaction analyses of a long-span bridge with sliding slab track and REJ are performed respectively and the results are compared. The bridge model includes PSC box girder bridge with 9 continuous spans, and steel-concrete composite girder bridge with 2 continuous spans. The total length of the bridge model is 1,205m, and the maximum spacing between the two fixed supports is 825m. Analyses results showed that the sliding slab track system is highly effective on interaction reduction since lower rail additional axial stress is resulted than REJ application. Additionally, horizontal reaction forces in fixed supports were also reduced compared to the results of REJ application. However, higher slab axial forces were developed in the sliding slab track due to the temperature load. Therefore, track slab section of the sliding slab track system should be carefully designed against slab axial forces.

  • The vertical forces in rail fasteners at areas of bridge transitions near the embankment and on the pier will occur due to different deformations of adjoining bridges caused by the trainloads. The up-lifting forces is not large problem in the blast track because the elasticity of blast and rail pad buffs up-lifting effect. But, it is likely to be difficult to ensure the serviceability of the railway and the safety of the fastener in the end in that concrete slab track consist of rail, fastener, and track in a single body, delivering directly the up-lifting force to the fastener if the deck is bended because of the end rotation of the overhang due to the vertical load. When the up-lifting force exceeds the clamp force of the fastener clip, the rail pad is out of fastener, which makes decrease the serviceability of the railway, such as noise and vibration. Furthermore, it is possible to reduce the safety of the track as the longitudinal resistance. This study is focused on guideline suggestion to decrease up-lifting force in the fastener adjacent to the civil joint of slab track of bridge throughout the parametric analysis between the vertical spring stiffness of the fastener as the material approach, the space of fastener adjacent to bridge transition, the rigidity of the girder as the geometrical approach and up-lifting force under the train load.
