  • The process of selecting a repair material is a typical one of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. In this study Analytical Hierarch Process was applied to solve this MCDM problem. Many factors affecting a process to select an optimal repair material can be classified into quantitative and qualitative requirements and this study handled only quantitative items. Quantitative requirements in the optimal selection model for repair material were divided into two parts, namely, the required chemical performance and the required physical performance. The former is composed of alkali-resistance, chloride permeability and electrical resistivity. The latter is composed of compressive strength, tensile strength, adhesive strength, drying shrinkage, elasticity and thermal expansion. The result of the study shows that this method is the useful and rational engineering approach in the problem concerning the selection of one out of many candidate repair materials even if this study was limited to repair material only for chloride-deteriorated concrete.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the repair system for RC members with damaged by rebar corrosion using new corrosion inhibitor which was high nitrite content. In the experiments, the acceleration corrosion test of rebar was conducted using the specimen which was applied by various repair system. As a result, it was confirmed that the new repair system without concrete patching had high anti-corrosion property compared with other repair systems and was very effective as a spray type corrosion inhibitor in concrete containing chloride (0.1% of NaCl).

  • Repair of concrete structures has been a focus of attention in recent years not only in Japan but also worldwide. Concrete structures have fallen short of expectations at the time of construction-they should have been perpetual and maintenance-free. However, investigation into their premature deterioration reveals the primary causes: Concrete was made using inadequate materials and/or inadequate mixture proportions due to insufficient consideration and was placed inadequately under insufficient execution control. The secondary causes include insufficient consideration at the time of construction for the environmental conditions to which the structures were to be exposed. In any event, in the current economic climate, structures cannot be demolished and rebuilt as soon as they are damaged, but instead are expected to continue to be in service as long as possible with appropriate repair or retrofitting. This paper analyzes the causes of deterioration requiring repair and introduces relevant repair techniques. At the end, the repair project of the Sanyo Shinkansen Line in which the author was involved through committee activities is reported.

  • The cement concrete pavements are designed twenty years of performance life in Korea. At the present time, some expressways have been elapsed seventy percent of performance life which are detecting local failures. The most repair methods using to repair failures are partial depth repair and full section repair. These methods are most important bonding strength between rapid curing materials and substrate concrete pavements. This study was performed to evaluate bonding strength of the composites section made of rapid curing material and substrate concrete pavements. The pull-out tester was used to test bonding strength for the composites section made of each materials. In the results of the test, the bonding strength values of the epoxy mortar and acrylic mortar are higher than those of the other materials. The performance life of repaired section is affected by various factor. The bonding strength of bonded composites section may be affect the performance life, significantly.

  • Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures in marine environment is one of the most important mechanism of deterioration. The conventional repair techniques of concrete structure damaged by chloride attack consist of removing damaged concrete, cleaning rebar and patching with cement-based materials. However, recently, this method was considered to be ineffective for marine concrete structure in tidal zone. It is necessary to select proper repair method for domestic marine environment which shows broad tidal zone. This paper reports the results of repair of highway concrete bridge damaged by chloride attack in domestic marine environment.

  • As the importance of maintenance of reinforced concrete structure recently has emerged, the attention of durability of structure has been increasing. There are many studies about durability decline especially due to the carbonation. In order to study carbonation progress after surface repair of carbonated concrete, each carbonation penetration velocity from different repair materials of concrete structure is compared through the experiment of carbonation accelerating CO2 concentration to 20% and 100%. As carbonation infiltration progress is predicted through this study, the counterplan of service life evaluation will be prepared on selection of repair materials of concrete structure.

  • Crack and its damage of structure concrete in both FBS and TBS ballastless track are presented. The cause of concrete crack is analyzed. According to corresponding quantitative equation, effective technical measures to depression crack of concrete are put forward, at the same time the rationality of elastic ratio for HGT has been proved. At last, by the analysis of the characteristic of high-speed train, which are serving in the open air, bearing fatigue load, the short time for maintenance window and high speed of service, technical requirement for concrete repair material, repair technology and repair tools of ballastless track structure are presented.

  • The service life of agricultural concrete structures is designed in about 30 to 100 years, but actual service lift is estimated in an average 18 years. Therefore, as the service life of the agricultural concrete structures increases, necessity of repair by aging from various environment condition exposure increases. This study was to determinate the optimum mix proportion of latex modified repair mortar and to improve the durability performance of agricultural concrete structures. The physical and mechanical tests of latex modified repair mortar were performed. Tests of flow, compressive strength, flexural strength and bond strength tests were conducted. Test results show that the optimum nex proportion of latex modified repair mortar, when used in 5% latex volume fraction (weight of cement), 1.5% antifoaming agent (weight of latex), 0.2% PVA fiber volume fraction, 1:2 (binder-sand ratio), 10% silica fume replacement ratio (weight of cement), could result in best performance for the repair of agricultural concrete structures.

  • This research was to evaluate the shrinkage and durability performance of latex modified repair mortar and to improve the service lift of the agricultural concrete structures. The shrinkage characteristics of the repair material creates the delamination of repair materials and existing concrete. It may reduce the service life of structures. Also the reduction of durability performance of the repair materials induces the destruction of the repaired concrete structures at early stage. In this research, plastic and drying shrinkage, thermal expansion coefficient for shrinkage properties, durability performance, permeability, repeated freezing and thawing, and resistance of chemical solution test were performed. Test results showed that the latex modified repair mortar indicated the shrinkage amount which the delamination does not happen, and the latex modified repair mortar appeared excellent long-term durability performance which can increase the service life.
