The Korean 2nd basic plan for management of high-level radioactive waste presented a plan to manage spent nuclear fuel through dry storage facilities in NPP on-site. For the construction and operation of the facility, it is necessary to develop the monitoring system of the integrity of spent nuclear fuel before operation. NUREG-1536 recommends that the theoretical cask array, typically in the 2×10 array, should account for shadowing effect among the dry storage casks. The objective of this study was to evaluate neutron flux accounting for shadowing effect among dry storage casks. The neutron release rate was evaluated using ORIGEN based on the design basis fuel condition. And the simulation of dry storage casks and evaluation of the shadowing effect were performed using MCNP. Shadowing effect of other dry storage casks was the highest at the center of the dry storage facility of the 2×10 array compared with the outside of the cask. The shadowing effect of neutron flux on the surface among the metal casks was approximately 18% at point 1, 23% at point 2, and 43% at point 3. For the concrete casks, the shadowing effect of neutron flux on the surface was approximately 46% at point 1, 51% at point 2, and 52% at point 3. This means that correction is necessary to monitor the integrity of spent nuclear fuel in each dry storage cask through evaluation of shadowing effect. The results of this study will be used for comparative analysis of neutron measurement data from spent nuclear fuels in dry storage cask. Additionally, the neutron flux evaluation procedure used in this study could be used as the basic data of safety assessment of dry storage cask and development of safety guide.

The construction industry is a significant contributor to carbon emissions, with its life cycle emissions posing significant environmental challenges. Despite its increasing importance, embodied carbon (EC) generated from the construction process is often ignored. Modular construction (MC), characterized by a combination of off-site manufacturing and on-site assembly, has been recognized for its potential to contribute to environmental benefits. However, there is still a lack of systematic explanation of urban high-rise MC. This study aims to identify whether and to what extent high-rise MC can achieve EC reductions and lay the foundation for effective carbon reductuons in the construction industry. To achieve this, the study develops a multi-level EC measurement framework for assessing EC during the construction process, using a real case to quantify the EC and determine carbon reduction performance. The innovation is a more comprehensive understanding of the boundaries of EC, as MC includes the amount of superstructure work and decoration integration. The results show that although the MC will increase EC from the transportation stage due to heavier modules, it achieves a net reduction in total EC by reducing on-site machinery energy consumption and waste rates. In conclusion, this study contributes to a better understanding of the EC emissions associated with high-rise MC, offering a valuable measurement framework for global regions evaluating the EC impacts of high-rise MC in similar contexts.

TDF (Tire derived fuel) Fly ash is an industrial by-product when scraped tire was used a fuel source at the power plant. TDF Fly ash has been classified as domestic waste at the workplace so far and has not been appropriately utilized. We conducted a fundamental physical property test of asphalt mixture to investigate the possibility of using TDF Fly ash as a mineral filler of asphalt mixture for exploring new usage strategies. TDF Fly ash meets KS F 3501 asphalt mixture mineral filler criteria. And the optimal asphalt binder amount was determined to be 4.5% by Marshall design. Mineral filler content was determined at 3% and analyzed by comparing using mineral filler as stone powder. The basic physical property test of the asphalt mixture was evaluated to the provision indicated in "Production and Construction Guidelines for Asphalt Mixture" published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In the test, Marshall stability test, dynamic immersion test, tensile strength ratio test, wheel tracking test were carried out. As a result of the experiment, Marshall stability and dynamic stability satisfied the standards, and confirmed the stability and Dynamic immersion and tensile strength ratio test that TDF Fly ash is more effective for scaling and moisture resistance than stone dust. Therefore, in this research, it is expected that multilateral utilization of TDF Fly ash, and a positive effect can be also expected.
This study carried out life cycle assessment for evaluating environmental impacts of timber Arch-Truss bridge by using domestic Pinus rigida Miller glued-laminated timber throughout life cycle such as extraction, manufacturing, transportation, construction, use, dismantlement, transportation of waste, disposal and recycling. The life cycle GHG (GreenHouse Gas) emissions of the target bridge are 192.56 ton $CO_2$ eq. in 50 years. Especially, the life cycle GHG emissions of concrete used in the target bridge are 82.84 ton $CO_2$ eq. which accounts for 53.02% of the GWP (Global Warming Potential) in extraction and manufacturing stages. The target bridge is constructed of $116.57m^3$ of domestic Pinus rigida Miller glued-laminated timber and used timber has stored 104.72 ton $CO_2$. If an effect of carbon storage in timber is applied to the total GHG emissions of the target bridge, the GHG emissions can be reduced by 54.38%. In the case of substitution effect, if domestic Pinus rigida Miller glued-laminated timber replaces steel manufactures used in other bridge which has the same structure and life span as the target bridge, the GHG emissions in extraction and manufacturing stages can be reduced by 10.26% to 23.91%.

It has been reported that FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) can be recycled by separating into layers instead of crushing into powder. F-fiber obtained from roving layer separated from FRP, has bigger tensile strength than the bundle of glass fibers of which FRP was made (more than 90%). SEM image of F-fiber shows the presence of some resin. Under the proposition of usage of F-fiber in the concrete material, tensile strength is examined after soaking in a basic solution (NaOH+KOH). The reaction mechanism of strength loss may be considered as an attack of hydroxide ion ($OH^-$) on a chemical bond of Si-O-Si of glass fiber. The simulation graph of the strength loss data implies certain reaction mechanism. While in the early stage kinetically controlled reaction results in a fast drop of tensile strength, after 30 days dispersion rate of hydroxide ion plays a major role in strength loss. This result is similar to the one for the AR glass. An extrapolation of the graph would make an assumption about the lift time of F-fiber possible.

PURPOSES : Compared to the criteria from advanced countries, Korea has conservative criteria for the buried depth of pipeline (about 30~70cm deeper) causing the waste of cost and time. Therefore, this research investigated the effect of various buried depths of pipeline on pavement performance in order to modify the criteria to be safe but economical. In addition, a recycled aggregate which is effective in economical and environmental aspect was evaluated to be used as a refilling material. METHODS : In this study, total 10 pilot sections which are composed with various combinations of pavement structure, buried depth of pipeline, and refilling material were constructed and the telecom cable was utilized as a buried pipeline. During construction, LFWD (Light Falling Weight Deflectometer) tests were conducted on each layer to measure the structural capacity of underlying layers. After the construction is completed, FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer) tests and moving load tests were performed on top of the asphalt pavement surface. RESULTS : It was found from the LFWD and FWD test results that as the buried depth decrease, the deflections in subbase and surface layer were increased by 30% and 5~10%, respectively, but the deflection in base layer remained the same. In the moving load test, the longitudinal maximum strain was increased by 30% for 120mm of buried depth case and 5% for 100mm of buried depth case. Regarding the effect of refilling material, it was observed that the deflections in subbase and surface layer were 10% lager in recycled aggregate compared to the sand material. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the testing results, it was found that the change in buried depth and refiliing material would not significantly affect the pavement performance. However, it is noted that the final conclusion should be made based on an intensive structural analysis for the pavement under realistic conditions (i.e., repeated loading and environmental loading) along with the field test results.

A huge amount of de-icing agent is sprayed during winter to promote traffic safety in cold regions, and the quantity of de-icing agent sprayed has increased each year. The main ingredients in commonly used de-icing agents are chlorides, such as calcium chloride($CaCl_2$) and sodium chloride(NaCl). While calcium chloride is mostly used in Korea and sodium chloride is usually used in the U.S. and Japan, all de-icing agents include chloride ions. The chlorides included in sprayed calcium chloride-based de-icing agents have severe adverse effects, including the corrosion of reinforcing steels through salt damage by infiltrating into road structures, reduced structural performance of pavement or damage to bridge structures, and surface scaling, in combination with freezing damage in winter, as well as water pollution. In addition, the deterioration of paved concrete road surface that occurs after the use of calcium chloride-based de-icing agent accelerates the development of visual problems with traffic structures. Therefore, the present study was performed to prepare an environment-friendly liquid de-icing agent through a reaction between waste organic acids and calcium-based by-products, which are industrial by-products, and to analyze the properties of the de-icing agent in order to evaluate its applicability to road facilities.

This study is to comparatively analyze the characteristics of pH decrease in recycled fine aggregates for embankment and landfill produced from waste concrete by using natural process and artificial process. The result was as follows In case of recycled fine aggregates left outdoor, it was found that pH level was decreased if the thickness of embankment becomes thinner, or the materials left outdoors owing to high concentration of $CO_2$ in atmosphere caused by respirations of people. When the air was permeated, pH level was decreased more effectively. It was analyzed that this phenomenon was caused by efficient supply of $CO_2$ in the recycled fine aggregates owing to high-pressure ventilators. In case of water spraying treatment, sprayed water facilitated hydration of unhydrated cement to dissolve calcium hydroxides which neutralized $CO_2$ in the atmosphere during desiccation process and decrease pH level by a considerable margin. In case of Immersed treatment, decrease of pH was not sufficient. When facilitating the supply of $CO_2$, pH level of the recycled fine aggregates was decreased by the largest margin. It was analyzed that this phenomenon was caused by efficient supply of $CO_2$. From the above results, it was analyzed that the most effective method of reducing pH level of the recycled fine aggregates from the aspects of pH reduction performance, economic efficiency and workability was repeated wet-dry cycles of spraying water to the aggregates in the proportion of 1:0.5 by weight and then treating by forcefully blowing $CO_2$ gas into the aggregates.

In particular, he rediscovers the value of traditional urban space through visual experience between architecture and urban facilities. Finally, the architectural city theorist, Pallasmaa., criticizes the visual centrality of modern cities and thinks about the value of multidisciplinary space that can be experienced in architecture. This study examines the space of reproduction in detail on the perspective of the body philosophy and urban theorists. In other words, the play space inherits the natural city time, so when our body experiences this play space, we can actively sense and perceive the various senses. So we can invoke the active external actions of our bodies. Through the analysis of the size of the reconstruction space of the architectural city, various types of body senses and responses can be. Yoon Dongju Literary Museum, which renovated the old water tank of the city, can recognize the unfamiliar sense of body in everyday life through the traces and smells of water in the past and the restrained visuality. In addition, Seonyudo Park, which regenerates the waste water purification plant, can experience a phenomenal phenomenon through water space, old concrete and traces of steel. Finally, with the most recently played Seoul Road 7017 can experience interesting urban spaces in terms of a variety of plants, a human scale space creating movement, and a continuous visual.

The present study evaluated experimentally the effects of the type and content of plastic fine aggregates on cement mortar in order to utilize waste platics as raw materials of concrete. The two kinds of plastics, LLDPE and HDPE were used, and the mixing rate of plastic fine aggregates was increased 0, 25, 50, 75, 100%. The mortar of LLDPE fine aggregate and HDPE fine aggregate showed similar tendency in flow and material separation resistance, density and water absorption, compressive strength and flexural strength by age. The flowability of mortar mixed with plastic fine aggregates was increased up to 50% but decreased at 75% or more. The material separation resistance of mortar with plastic fine aggregates was also dramatically decreased. On the other hand, due to the low density of plastics, the density of mortar decreased with the mixing of plastic fine aggregates. Due to the low adhesion between plastic fine aggregates and cement, the compressive strength by age was decreased in proportion to the mixing ratio of plastic aggregate, but the flexural strength of each age decreased with maintaining a certain level at 50% or more of plastic fine aggregate content.
