  • The use of the current ACI 318 stress block parameters has been reported to provide unconservative estimations of the moment capacities for high-strength concrete columns. Accordingly, several concrete stress block parameters have been recently proposed. This paper discusses various concrete stress block parameters for high-strength concrete and their influences on the code provisions. In order to adopt the proposed stress block parameters to the design code, it is necessary to understand the impact of the change of the stress block parameters on various aspects of the code provisions. For this purpose, the influence of using of different stress block parameters on the location of the neutral axis and the tensile strain in extreme tension steel as well as the axial and moment capacities are investigated. In addition, the influence on the prestressed concrete members is also elucididated.

  • In this paper, to seek a solution of reducing autogenous shrinkage three types of bar restricted concrete specimens which have similar compressive strength were tested. The three type of concrete were plain concrete-P25 type, $10^{\circ}C$ fly-ash replaced concrete-F10 type, and $1^{\circ}C$ expansion admixture replaced concrete-SP1 type, and with the test result an experimental study was conducted to gain the tensile stress of concrete. From the result of P25, SP1, F10 tests, it was found that by the age of 14 the ratios of tensile stress to tensile strength of three specimens are $75^{\circ}C$, $47^{\circ}C$, $52^{\circ}C$ respectively. so we came to a conclusion that the SP1-type concrete has better capacity to reduce autogenous shrinkage than F10-type concrete at similar compressive strength condition.

  • This paper concerns the within test strength of concrete cured under different conditions. Those conditions are water curing, field curing and cores drilled from the existing structures. The test factors are not only above cured conditions but also concrete ages of 3, 7, 14 and 28 days and concrete strength of 202, 252 and 650kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The test results are as follows; (1) In spite of within test results, concrete strength is very different from curing states of concrete (2) The strength of cores drilled from existing structures are smaller than the strength of concrete cured in water by 3~4% and larger than that of concrete cured in field by 8~17% (3) Core strength is largely dependant on the curing state of top surface of concrete.

  • The aim of this study is to assess the structural performance of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers, and to provide method for developing improved evaluation method. For a deteriorated bridge piers, once the cover spalls off and bond between the reinforcement and concrete has been lost, compressed reinforcements are likely to buckle. By using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program, the accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), is used to analyze reinforced concrete structures. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. Advanced deteriorated material models are developed to predict behaviors of deteriorated reinforced concrete. The proposed numerical method for the structural performance assessment of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers is verified by comparing it with reliable experimental results. Additionally, the studies and discussions presented in this investigation provide an insight into the key behavioral aspects of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers.

  • The role of fly ash in concrete become impotant with finding the charateristics of fly ash in which it is used as cement replacement material. An experimental study is carried out to investigate the characteristics of concrete containing fly ash. The loss of slump and air content of fly ash concrete tested up to 120 minutes are lower than those of ordinary concrete, but the setting time and bleeding are increased with increasing fly ash content. The compressive and tensile strength of fly ash concrete are slightly lower than those of ordinary concrete between 7 and 28 days, however, the long-term (at 180 days) compressive strength of fly ash concrete is significantly higher. In addition, fly ash reduces the heat of hydration and peak of temperature rise in concrete.

  • Reinforced concrete structures are constructed under the basic assumption of perfect bonding between steel and concrete. The corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete beams results in the excessive cracks and gradual deterioration of concrete. This paper are concerned about the slip characteristics of reinforced concrete between steel and concrete. The accelerated test by external power supply was conducted with the three corrosion rates in the laboratory. As a result, it was obtained as follows: (1) the yield strength of steel was reduced according to corrosion states. (2) the equivalent steel area should be considered for detailed analysis. (3) According to the use of corroded steel or not, slip amounts between concrete and steel in test beams increased as the corrosion rate increased. These results can be explained from the bond loss between concrete and steel in test beams.

  • In this paper, the electro-deposition method for the rehabilitation of cracked concrete, based on the electro-chemical technique, is presented. The main purpose of this paper is to apply this technique to reinforced concrete members on land. After cracking with a specified load(crack width 0.5mm), 10$\times$10$\times$20cm concrete specimens with embedded steel bars were immersed in several solutions, then a constant current density between the embedded steel in concrete and an electrode in the solution was applied for 4~20 weeks. The results indicate that electro-deposits formed in this process are able to close concrete cracks and to coat the concrete surface and that formation of these electro-deposits is confirmed to have an effect of protection against detrimental materials. Therefore, it is demonstrated that the electro-deposition method can be usefully applied for the rehabilitation technique of concrete.

  • In this paper, the effect of compressive strength on the fatigue behavior of plain concrete was studied. The fatigue behavior of plain concrete in uniaxial compression is somewhat affected by the compressive strength of the concrete. Concrete cylindrical specimens(100$\times$200mm) with compressive strength of 265kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 530kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ , 860kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 1053kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ were tested and analyzed on the fatigue strength, In addition to fatigue strength, the deformation characteristics of the concrete subjected to fatigue loading was investigated. The fatigue strength was decreased for the high-strength concrete. The deformation studies indicated that the irrecoverable strain in normal strength concrete is greater than that in high strength concrete.

  • This paper is an experimental study on the flexural strength and ductility capacity of reinforced high performance concrete beams with the concrete which has compressive strength of 600~700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, slump value of 20~25cm and slump-flow value of 60~70cm. Total 8 beams with different tensile reinforcement ratio and pattern of loading were tested. Form the results of reinforced high performance concrete beams, the equivalent stress block parameters proposed by MacGregor et al. or New Zealand code are recommended to use. Also, an extreme fiber concrete compressive strain of reinforced high performance concrete beams are distributed 0.0033~0.0048. In reinforced high performance concrete beams, reinforcement ratio in order to insure curvature ductility index 2 and 4 propose by ACI code should be less than those of reinforced normal strength concrete beams.
