  • Modeling and simulation of human-involved complex systems pose challenges to representing human decision makings into logical systems because of the nondeterministic and dynamic nature of human behaviors. In modeling perspectives, human's activities in systems can increase uncertainty and complexity, because he or she can potentially access all other resources within the system and change the system states. To address all of these human involvements in the system, this research suggests applying the Finite State Automata (FSA)-based formal modeling of human-involved systems that incorporates the ecological concept of affordances to an evacuation simulation, so that human behavioral patterns under urgent and dynamic emergency situations can be considered in the real-time simulation. The proposed simulation methodologies were interpreted using the warehouse fire evacuation simulation to clarify the applicability of the proposed methodology. This research is expected to merge system engineering technologies and human factors, and come out to the new predictive modeling methodology for disaster simulations. This research can be applied to a variety of applications such as building layout designs and building access control systems for emergency situations.

  • Modeling of engine coolant temperature was conducted for a series hybrid powertrain system. The purpose of this modeling was a simplification of complex heat transfer process inside a engine cooling system in order to apply it to the vehicle powertrain simulation software. A basic modeling concept is based on the energy conservation equation within engine coolant circuit and are composed of heat rejection from engine to coolant, convection heat transfer from an engine surface and a radiator to ambient air. At the final stage, the coolant temperature was summarized as a simple differential equation. Unknown heat transfer coefficients and heat rejection term were defined by theoretical and experimental methods. The calculation result from this modeling showed a reasonable prediction by comparison with the experimental data.

This study aims to conduct research for further application or construction of ontology systems in Korea. This research reviews the theory of concept modeling and ontology. and analyses 4 cases of conceptual modeling of medical tenrminologies by ontology, The findings ot this study display these specific characteristics in medscal ontologies: (UHe standardization of terrrinology on MeSH. (2) The conceptualization of tenninology on UMLS. (l) ane. (2) are showed as untormal ontologies. (3) The theory of ontology integration in ON9, (4) The reference model of medical knowledge with formalization in GALEN. (3) and (4) are showed as formal ontologies. The application and construction of ontology should be differentiated according to the level of the proposed system, and then this analysis will provide useful information for the researcher and developer of the system.

  • As the needs of intelligent systems increase, there have been diverse approaches that combine artificial intelligence (AI) and simulation in the last decade. RG-DEVS, which is the basis for this paper, embedded AI planning techniques into the simulation modeling methodology of DEVS, in order to specify dynamically a simulation model. However, a hierarchy concept, which is used for various types of problem solving systems. is not included in the planning of RG-DEVS. The hierarchy concept reduces the computational cost of planning by reducing the search space, and also makes it easy to apply the hierarchical process flow of a target system to planning. This paper proposes Hierarchical RG-DEVS (HRG-DEVS) in an attempt to insert hierarchical planning capability into RG-DEVS. For the verification of the proposed modeling methodology, HRG-DEVS is applied to model the block's world problem of ABSTRIPS, which is a classical planning problem.

  • A pseudoreceptor combines structure-based and ligand-based techniques to represent a unifying concept for both receptor mapping and ligand matching. In this molecular modeling approach, there are opportunities to construct the pseudoreceptor models using a set of small molecules. To build a reliable pseudoreceptor model, we need a set of ligand molecules with known affinity (biological activity) to generate 3D bioactive conformation for each of these ligand molecules. Several software packages are available to generate a pseudoreceptor model and this can provide an entry point for structure based drug discovery in cases where receptor structure information is not available. In this review, we presented the concept of pseudoreceptor, as well as discussed about various software packages available to generate a pseudoreceptor model.

  • The current process of weapon system R&D has lots of problems that the phase is complex, the concept of integration and/or connection of related data is laked and don't be digitalized. To solve these problems we should establish the R&D CALS system and to do this, analysis the R&D process is necessary. In this paper, We suggested weapon system R&D CALS concept and model, and analysed R&D process with ARIS Toolset and proposed the new R&D process and operation scenarios with CALS concept.

  • The discrete crack-concept is applied to study the 3D propagation of tensile-dominated failure in plain concrete. To this end the Partition of Unity Finite Element Method (PUFEM) is utilized and the strong discontinuity approach is followed. A consistent linearized implementation of the PUFEM is combined with a predictor-corrector algorithm to track the crack path, which leads to a robust numerical description of concrete cracking. The proposed concept is applied to study concrete failure during the PCT3D test and the predicted numerical results are compared to experimental data. The proposed numerical concept provides a clear interface for constitutive models and allows an investigation of their impact on concrete cracking under 3D conditions, which is of significant scientific interests to interpret results from 3D experiments.
