This study detected red tide areas using the existing Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) and Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI), and then compared the results between results of two sensors. The coasts of Jeollanam-do in the South Sea of Korea were set as the study area based on the red tide data which occurred on Aug. 26th, 2012. This study compared the results of sensors to detect red tides by using a satellite. In the results of analyzing MODIS by limiting it as chlorophyll concentration and the sea surface temperature which is considered to have red tides by the existing researches, it was possible to delete considerable amount of errors compared to the case of detecting red tides by using only chlorophyll while still there were differences from the range of red tides actually observed. In the results of GOCI by using empirical algorithm for detecting red tides, currently used by Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology(KIOST), it was possible to obtain more detailed results than MODIS. However, there was an area misjudged as red tides due to the influence of clouds. Also both MODIS and GOCI extracted red tides were not actually occurring, which might be because they were not able to perfectly distinguish red tides from turbid water in coastal areas with high turbidity.
This study has analyzed the scanning path algorithm shown at the process of exploring spatial information through an observation experiment with the object of lobby in subway station. In the estimation of observation time by section, the frequency of scanning type was found to increase as the observation time got longer, which makes it possible that the longer the observation lasts the more the observation interruptions occur. In addition, the observation slipped out of the range of imaging when any fatigue was caused from the observation or the more active exploration took place. Furthermore, when the trend line was employed for the examination of the changes to the scanning type by time section, "concentration" "diagonal or vertical" showed a sharp and a gentle increases along with the increase of time section respectively, while "circulation. combination, horizontal" showed a reduction. The observation data of the subjects observing a space include various visual information. The analysis of the scanning type found at "attention concentration" enabled to draw this significant conclusion. The features of increase and decrease of scanning types can be a fundamental data for understanding the scanning tendency by time.
In the present study, the diffusion process of hydrogen leaking from a FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) in an underground parking lot was analyzed by numerical simulations in order to assess the risk of a leakage accident. The temporal and spatial changes of the hydrogen concentration as well as the flammable region in the parking lot were predicted numerically. The effects of the leakage flow rate and an additional ventilation fan were investigated to evaluate the ventilation performance in the parking lot to relieve the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The present numerical analysis can provide useful information such as the distribution of the leaked hydrogen concentration for safety of various hydrogen applications.
Many countries have adopted a single, well-described approach to the use of phototrophs for monitoring river water quality, which involves the use of indices related to diatom composition at a site. Increasingly these indices have focussed on assessing ambient phosphate concentration. However, there is a wide range of other methods which can provide additional information to make up for any weaknesses in the standard method. Some of these methods are reviewed briefly here. They can be useful, for instance, when considering temporal and spatial variability in phosphate concentration at a particular site and providing much more insight on heavy metal or pesticide pollution than revealed by routine water analysis.
GIS technique is applied to the analysis of ambient air quality information. For this study, the TMS-monitored air quality information was imported with the geographical information of the TMS stations in Capital Area. It is found that currently available GIS technique has a great extend of potential for air quality management. From the analysis of air quality information, the GIS application demonstrates the poor air quality in the central Capital Area and the it is improved as it travels down to the suburb area. The ambient air quality is also proven to be highly influenced by the ozone concentration in a mid-summer day.
Purpose: In protected crop production facilities such as greenhouse and plant factory, farmers should be present and/or visit frequently to the production site for maintaining optimum environmental conditions and better production, which is time and labor consuming. Monitoring of environmental condition is highly important for optimum control of the conditions, and the condition is not uniform within the facility. Objectives of the paper were to investigate spatial and vertical variability in ambient environmental variables and to provide useful information for sensing and control of the environments. Methods: Experiments were conducted in a strawberry-growing greenhouse (greenhouse 1) and a cherry tomato-growing greenhouse (greenhouse 2). Selected ambient environmental variables for experiment in greenhouse 1 were air temperature and humidity, and in greenhouse 2, they were air temperature, humidity, PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density), and $CO_2$ concentration. Results: Considerable spatial, vertical, and temporal variability of the ambient environments were observed. In greenhouse 1, overall temperature increased from 12:00 to 14:00 and increased after that, while RH increased continuously during the experiments. Differences between the maximum and minimum temperature and RH values were greater when one of the side windows were open than those when both of the windows were closed. The location and height of the maximum and minimum measurements were also different. In greenhouse 2, differences between the maximum and minimum air temperatures at noon and sunset were greater when both windows were open. The maximum PPFD were observed at a 3-m height, close to the lighting source, and $CO_2$ concentration in the crop growing regions. Conclusions: In this study, spatial, vertical, and temporal variability of ambient crop growing conditions in greenhouses was evaluated. And also the variability was affected by operation conditions such as window opening and heating. Results of the study would provide information for optimum monitoring and control of ambient greenhouse environments.
In the Seoul Metropolitan City, the PM(pariculate matter) application used by the citizens provides the PM concentration of the nearest monitoring stations located on the PM monitoring stations. Currently, the selecting method of the PM monitoring network considered by the Ministry of Environment is based on considering the monitoring station distribution and population density only. In this study, we analyzed the distance between PM monitoring station and the administrative center point in addition to the above considerations. The number of test sites was verified and the range of coverage of each monitoring stations was indicated by using the Voronoi algorithm and hexagon grid. The spatial position problem of the PM monitoring station was suggested by spatial data analysis. The variables of spatial data analysis are single-family houses, apartments, $1^{st}$ class neighborhood, $2^{nd}$ class neighborhood, garbage disposal plant, hazardous material disposal facility, factory, and the density map. The analysis result of the selection criterion considering the additional variables for new PM monitoring stations was presented, in addition to the selection criteria provided by the Ministry of Environment.
Fine dust is a substance that greatly affects human health, and various studies have been conducted in this regard. Due to the human influence of particulate matter, various studies are being conducted to predict particulate matter grade using past data measured in the monitoring network of Seoul city. In this paper, predictive model have focused on particulate matter concentration in May, 2019, Seoul. The air pollutant variables were used to training such as SO2, CO, NO2, O3. The predictive model based on Adaboost, and training model was dividing PM10 and PM2.5. As a result of the prediction performance comparison through confusion matrix, the Adaboost model was more conformable for predicting the particulate matter concentration grade. Although air pollutant variables have a higher correlation with PM2.5, training model need to train a lot of data and to use additional variables such as traffic volume to predict more effective PM10 and PM2.5 distribution grade.

This study attempted to analyze the environmental equity of fine dust(PM10) in Daegu using MGWR(Multi-scale Geographically Weighted Regression) and KT(Korea Telecom Corporation) sensor data. Existing national monitoring network data for measuring fine dust are collected at a small number of ground-based stations that are sparsely distributed in a large area. To complement these drawbacks, KT sensor data with a large number of IoT(Internet of Things) stations densely distributed were used in this study. The MGWR model was used to deal with spatial heterogeneity and multi-scale contextual effects in the spatial relationships between fine dust concentration and socioeconomic variables. Results indicate that there existed an environmental inequity by land value and foreigner ratio in the spatial distribution of fine dust in Daegu metropolitan city. Also, the MGWR model showed better the explanatory power than Ordinary Least Square(OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression(GWR) models in explaining the spatial relationships between the concentration of fine dust and socioeconomic variables. This study demonstrated the potential of KT sensor data as a supplement to the existing national monitoring network data for measuring fine dust.
This study compared the influence of water quality according to the data sources of spatial information. Firstly, land cover map was constructed through image classification of Daecheong-dam basin and the accuracy of image classification from satellite image showed high as 88.76% in comparison with the large-scaled land cover map in Ministry of Environment, to calculate Event Mean Concentration (EMC) by land cover that impact on the evaluation of nonpoint source pollutant loads. Also curve number and direct runoff were calculated by spatial overlay with soil map and land cover map from image classification. And Seokcheon and Daecheong-Dam basin showed high in the analysis of curve number and direct runoff. Samgacheon-Joint and Sokcheon-Downstream basin showed high in the nonpoint source pollutant loads of BOD from direct runoff and EMC. And Samgacheon-Joint and Bonghwangcheon- Downstream basin showed high in the nonpoint source pollutant loads of TN and TP. Nonpoint source pollutant loads from image classification were compared with those by the land cover map from Ministry of Environment to present the effectivity of nonpoint source pollutant loads from satellite image. And Daecheong-Dam Upstream basin showed high as 10.64%, 11.70% and 20.00% respectively in the errors of nonpoint source pollutant loads of BOD, TN, and TP. Therefore, it is desirable that spatial information including with paddy and dry field is applied to the evaluation of nonpoint source pollutant loads in order to simulate water quality of basin effectively.
