The pharmacokinetics of orally administered paclitlxel (50 mg/kg) was studied in six rabbits after 1hr pretreatment (2.0 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg) of tetramethoxyflavone or coadministration of (2.0 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg) tetramethoxyflavone. The area under the plasma concentration-tine curve (AUC) and plasma concentration of paclitaxe1 coadministered with tetramethoxyflavone (10 mglkg) were increased significantly (p<0.05) compared with control. However, coadministration of tetramethoxyflavone (2 and 20 mg/kg) showed no significant effect on the pharmacokinetic parameters of paclitaxel. Pretreatment with tetramethoxyflavone significantly (p<0.05) increased the plasma concentration of paclitaxel. The area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) and the peak concentration (C$_{max}$) of paclitaxel pretreated with tetramethoxyflavone were increased significantly (p<0.01, p<0.05) compared with control. The terminal half. life of paclitaxel pretreated with tetramethoxyflavone (2 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg) was significantly (p<0.05) prolonged compared with control. Pretreatment with tetramethoxyflavone (2.0 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg) significantly (p<0.01, p<0.05) increased the absolute bioavailability of paclitaxel compared with the control (154∼179%). On the basis of the results, it might be considered that tetramethoxyflavone may inhibit cytochrome P450 or P-glycoprotein efflux pump which are engaged in paclitaxel metabolism, result in increased AUC and t$_{1}$2/ of paclitaxel. However, further study should be conducted to clarify the roles of cytochrome P450 and P-glycoprotein on paclitaxel bioavailability with/or without tetramethoxyflavone. P-glycoprotein on paclitaxel bioavailability with/or without tetramethoxyflavone.
Objectives: This study was conducted to test whether stretching helps high school students recover from their fatigue and improve concentration. Method: The method of this study adopted a nonequivalent control group with pre-test and post-test designs. The period of data collection was from November to December in 2004. The 135 subjects were randomly selected from two high schools in Ulsan : one school as control group(n=66) and the other school as an experimental group(n=69). The experimental group had stretching for 10 minutes before the start of their fifth period class, five times a week(once a day) 4weeks of period, but the control group did not do. Result: After stretching, the students' level of fatigue in the experiment group was immensely reduced (t=4.75, p<.001). After the stretching, the concentration level of the experimental group increased vastly compared to the control group (t=3.35, p≤.005). Conclusion: Stretching is useful to reduce fatigue and improve concentration of high school students. This study recommended that stretching, which is not limited by high physical techniques, or specific time or spaces would help high school students' health, since they do not exercise regularly and are tired physically and mentally.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the obesity index and effect of dietary zinc and iron levels on serum trace minerals status in the high fat diet-induced obese rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control and high fat diet groups. Ten weeks later, the control and high fat diet group were rearranged into six groups by zinc and iron levels. After 16 wk serum zinc, iron, copper and manganese was analyzed. Obesity index was significantly higher in the group fed high fat diet (20% lard) than that of control group (5% corn oil). Body fat content was 12.10$\pm$4.51g/100g BW in high fat diet group and 7.64$\pm$4.18g/100g BW in control group. So, the obese rats were successfully induced by high fat diet. The trace mineral concentration of obese rats in serum were affected by zinc levels. Serum zinc concentration was increased by dietary zinc overload, whereas the iron, copper and manganese were decreased. Specially the manganese concentration was significantly affected by zinc levels. In both groups, serum trace mineral concentration was not changed significantly by the dietary iron levels. There were positive correlations between zinc, iron and manganese concentration according to dietary zinc and iron levels.
This study aims at investigating the relationships between the urinary mercury concentration and blood zinc-protoportphyrin, serum cholinestrase activity, making 149 workers exposed to mercury vapor and 68 workers who were not exposed to mercury among the workers in a flurorescent lamp manufactureing factory an object of this investigation. The results are as follows ; 1. In an exposed group the number of those whose urinary mercury concentration showed over $100{\mu}g/l$ was 21 persons (14.3%) among 147 workers. The average urinary mercury concentration was $52.1{\pm}46.1{\mu}g/l$($1.8-361.2{\mu}g/l$), which proved to be higher than the average concentration in a control group. 2. In an exposed group, the average concentration of blood zinc-protoporphyrin was $27.8{\pm}12.5{\mu}g/dl$($12.2-101.5{\mu}g/dl$), which proved to be somewhat higher than the average concentration in a control group. But it did not show a significant difference. 3. In an exposed group, the average concentration of serum cholinesterase activity showed $1936.7{\pm}341.0IU/l$(1,120,0-2,8750IU/l), which proved to be lower than the average concentration in a control group. 4. The relational coefficient between urinary mercury concentration and blool zinc-protoporphyrin, serum cholinesterase activity of the whole workers exposed to mercury showed little difference. While the relational coefficient between the urinary mercury concentration and blood zinc-protoporphyrin of the workers whose urinary mercury concentration showed over $100{\mu}g/l$ was relatively high, which was 0.62.

This paper proposes a nonlinear adaptive controller based on back-stepping method for tracking reference substrate concentration by manipulating dilution rate in a continuous baker's yeast cultivating process in stirred tank bioreactor. Control law is obtained from Lyapunov control function to ensure asymptotical stability of the system. The Haldane model for the specific growth rate depending on only substrate concentration is used in this paper. Due to the uncertainty of specific growth rate, it has been modified as a function including the unknown parameter with known bounded values. The substrate concentration in the bioreactor and feed line are measured. The deviation from the reference is observed when the external disturbance such as the change of the feed is introduced to the system. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulation results in continuous system.

The quality of the effluent from an activated sludge aeration tank can deteriorate when the substrate removal rate decreases due to an abrupt reduction in the DO concentration, which is affected by such operating conditions as the loading rate, temperature, wastewater composition, and so on. In this research, a DO control system that includes a PI (proportional-integral) controller/Hiraoka controller was developed and applied to a pilot-scale activated sludge process, then its acceptability was estimated. The applicability of the respiration rate to DO control was also estimated. The respiration rate indicated a variety of input organic loading rates, which is the main disturbance to the DO concentration in an aeration tank. When the influent concentration incrementally decreased and increased between CODcr 1,000 mg/l and 100 mg/l, the control system with a PI controller exhibited a good llperformance-the average DO concentrations were 2.00$\pm$0.14 mg/l and 1.88$\pm$0.15 mg/l (set value was 2.0 mg/l), respectively, and the settling time was just 10 minites. When the control system was operated for 4 days, the DO concentration was 1.99$\pm$0.18 mg/l and 32.6% of the air flowrate was saved. However, the fluctuations in the respiration rates and air flowrates were severe, which could be harmful to the stability of the biomass and mechanical stability of the blower. A possible approach to solve this problem may be the simultaneous control of the loading rate and DO concentration.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aspirin (5, 10, 20 mg/kg) on the pharmacokinetics of metformin $(15\;mg/kg)$ in rabbits. The plasma concentration of metformin was decreased significantly (p<0.05) by co-administration of aspirin (10, 20 mg/kg) compared with control. Area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of metformin was decreased significantly (p<0.05) by co-administration of aspirin (10, 20mg/kg) compared with control. Relative bioavailability $(R.B\%)$ of metformin by co-administration was 79.3 (5 mg/kg), 57.5 (10 mg/kg) and 62.5 (20 mg/kg). Peak plasma concentration of metformin was significantly (p<0.05) decreased by co-administration of aspirin (10, 20 mg/kg) compared with control. The elimination rate constant $(K_{el})$ of metformin was increased by co-administration of aspirin (10, 20 mg/kg) compared with control. The terminal half-lifes $(t_{1/2})$ and mean resident time (MRT) of metformin by co-administration of aspirin (10, 20 mg/kg) were decreased significantly (p<0.05) compared with control. It is considered that the significantly decreased plasma concentration and AUC of metrormin is due to increase of elimination in urine acidified by co-administration of aspirin. The results suggest that the dosage of metformin should be adjusted when metformin is co-administered with aspirin in the clinical situation.
For the investigation of the effects of G. lucidum on prevention and attention of hypercholeste-rolemia and atherosclerosis dietary hypercholesterolemic rats were fed with 2.0g% G. lucidum extracts for 4 weeks. And then concentrations of total cholesterol triglyceride phospholipid in serum and liver and those of HDL-cholesterol lipid peroxide glucose in serum were analyzed. Concentration of total cholesterol in serum was the lowest in the control group(basal diet+ wa-ter) and HDL-cholesterol in serum were significantly higher in groups of control 2(hyperchole-sterolemic ratslongrightarrowbasal+water) and 4(hypercholesterolemic ratslongrightarrowbasal+G.l. extract) The concentration of triglyceride in serum were signficantly lower in groups 4 and 5(hypercholeste-rolemic ratslongrightarrowcholesterol+G. l. extract) than in the control group. Phospholipid content in serum were not significantly different among all groups. Ttal cholesterol in liver was significa-ntly higher in hypercholesterolemic rats than in the control group and triglyceride concentration were signficantly higher in groups of 3(hypercholesterolemic ratslongrightarrowcholesterol+water) and 5 than others. Phospholipid in liver was significantly higher in group 3 than in the control group but groups of 4 and 5 were lower. As for lipid peroxide in serum was the lowest in group 4 and glucose concentration was lowest in group 5 than in other groups.
The present study has been conducted to analytically investigate the thermal control performance of variable conductance heat pipe(YCHP) with axial grooves. The condenser port of the YCHP is occupied by a inert gas in which the concentration of gas is varied with the operation temperature and the heat transport capacity is thus varied with the operating temperature due to the variation of inert gas concentration. In this study, numerical evaluation for the thermal control of the YCHP with axial grooves is made from the 1st order diffusion model that considers the diffusive expansion of inert gas by concentration gradient. Ammonia is used as a working fluid and Nitrogen as a control gas in the Aluminum tube. As a result, the thermal performance of YCHP based on diffusion model has been compared with that of YCHP from flat front model. Additionally, it is found that the concentration of inert gas is distributed in the condenser region of YCHP with axial grooves.
Objectives: This study investigated the effect of SM-2015 on blood alcohol clearance and hangover. We undertook this study to test whether SM-2015 is effective in decreasing blood alcohol concentration and preventing the symptoms of alcohol-induced hangover. Methods: Twenty healthy volunteers participated in this randomized crossover study. All participants were classified between an SM-2015 intake group (test group) and a non-intake group (control group). The primary outcome measure was the difference in blood alcohol concentration and hangover severity scores between the test and control groups. The secondary outcome measure was the difference in a liver function test (LFT) between the test and control groups. Results: After alcohol exposure, the sensitivity scores of blood alcohol concentration and hangover symptoms (sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, weakness, stomach pain, diarrhea, and concentration disorder) were significantly decreased in the SM-2015 intake group compared with the non-intake group. There were no differences in the LFT results between the SM-2015 intake group and the non-intake group. Conclusions: SM-2015 is effective in decreasing blood alcohol concentration and preventing the symptoms of alcohol-induced hangover. Larger studies are required to confirm these findings.
