  • A light-guide plate of an LCD backlight coupled with a microfresnel lens array (MFLA) is designed and analyzed. Computer simulated results of optical characteristics of our MFLA-type light-guided plate compared with the conventional prism-type one are presented. We show that the MFLA-type light-guide plate can replace well the conventional prism-type plate.

  • The primary purpose of this study was to investigate how and to what extent 'representations' affect the students' understanding and the growth of understanding in a technology [GSP]-based collegiate mathematics classroom. There are three themes related as frames of the study along with this purpose, which are mentioned in the first chapter and extended in the second chapter: technology in mathematics education; images on computer screen - visualization and representation; understanding and growth of understanding. Three research questions guided this study: 1) How do students present each component of representations when they study 'transformations' in a technology [GSP]-based classroom? If there is any difference between the first and second presentation for each component, how are they different?; 2) How and to what extent do representations affect the students' understanding and the growth of understanding in a technology [GSP]-based classroom?; What types of benefits and obstacles are there when students study 'transformations' in a technology [GSP]-based classroom?

  • The emergence of computer-based information society has fundamentally changed the paradigms of everyday human life and will continue its trend in the 21st century when resources of information technology become more and more important because they can be directly transformed into military use. Future warfare will include such high-tech weapon systems as precision-guided munitions and satellite. But, with the spread of internet and advances in information technology, cyber space appears to be resources can be deciding factor in winning future war. In this paper we proposed to identify core information technology in national defense, improve mobilizing method of information resources in time of crisis, come up with combat effective measures utilizing information technology by estimating future information technological developments.

  • This article proposes an integrated systems engineering and safety analysis model for safety-critical systems development. A methodology in system design for safety is considered during the early phase of the development life cycle of systems engineering process. The evolution of the design automation technology has enabled engineers to perform the model-based systems engineering. A Computer-Aided Systems Engineering(CASE) tool, CORE, is utilized to integrate the systems engineering model with a system safety analysis model. The results of the functional analysis phase can drive the analysis of the system safety. An example of Communications-Based Train Control(CBTC) system for an Automated Guided Transit(AGT) system demonstrated an application of the integrated model.

  • In this paper, cell-mediated immune algorithm(CMIA) controller was proposed and applied for the autonomous guided vehicle(AGV) driving. It was based on specific immune response of the biological immune system which is the cell-mediated immunity. To verify the performance of the designed CMIA controller, some experiments were performed for the control of steering and speed of AGV. And then the displacement and speed tracking error of the AGV was mainly investigated. As results, the capability of realization and reliableness were proved by comparing the response characteristics of the classical controller with the proposed CMIA controller.

  • In this study, we have developed the simulation tool in order to investigate driving trajectory of AGV for container transport. AGV for container transport is different from the indoor AGV in that it is a large size structure at being loaded the weight of 40 ton. And AGV for container transport is applied to front wheel steering, rear wheel steering, all wheel steering, and crap steering. Therefore, we have developed the simulation tool considering dynamic problems and center of turning in accordance with four way of steering modes. Throughout some computer simulations, we have confirmed that this tool is useful to analysis dynamic problems and to calculate minimum radius of turning for large size vehicles.

  • In this paper, the Unilateral Fin-line structure and the I-Plane structure are analysed by Rayleigh-Ritz variational method including the effect of conductor thickness. And a com-putcr-aided design program, CADUNI, is developed for microwave I-plane and Unilateral Fin-Line bandpass filters. Unilateral Fin-Line Filters are desigied at the center frequency of 10.5 GHz with guided bandwidth between 5% and 24.6%. Measured insertion loss is between 0.17 and 0.25 dB, and center frequency deviation is less than 0.2%. Experimental results are in good agree-ment with theory.

  • Recently, there have been researches to automate processing and analysing images in the medical field using image processing technique, a fast communication network, and high performance hardware. In this paper, we propose a system to be able to analyze morphological abnormality of red-blood cells for peripheral blood image using image processing techniques. To do this, we segment red-blood cells in the blood image acquired from microscope with CCD camera and then extract UNL fourier features to classify them into 15 classes. We reduce the number of multi-variate features using PCA to construct a more efficient classifier. Our system has the best performance in recognition rate, compared with two other algorithms, LVQ3 and k-NN. So, we show that it can be applied to a pathological guided system.

  • With the advancement of information technology, the application of augmented reality (AR) in dentistry is an emerging research field of image-guided surgery and dental education. In addition, the digital approach to incorporating AR in dental practice management is considered to be feasible. A prototype is developed to apply AR to dental daily clinical practice in order to help dentists to access electronic dental records. This prototype delivers patients' information and related clinical data to dental clinicians directly without the need to search for the appropriate patients. Wearable AR devices are considered to be a convenient tool for practicing dentists because dental practitioners are not always able to use a computer during active clinical sessions, such as implant placement, root canal treatment, and patient-doctor communication. The use of AR to visualize passive transferred patient data would be valuable for practicing dentists.
