Improvement of Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Software for Laser Machining

  • In this paper, effective and user friendly CAM software is presented that automatically generates any three dimensional complex toolpaths according to a CAD drawing. In advanced manufacturing, often it is essential to scan the sample following a complex trajectory which consists of short (few microns) and multidirectional moves. The reported CAM software offers constant velocity for all short trajectory elements and provides an efficient shift of tool path direction in sharp corners of a tool trajectory, which is vital for any laser, based precision machining. The software also provides fast modification of tool path, automatic and efficient sequencing of path elements in a complicated tool trajectory, location of reference point and automatic fixing of geometrical errors in imported drawing exchange files (DXF) or DWG format files.

  • Computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology today is the standard in manufacturing industry. The application of the CAD/CAM technology, together with the emerging 3D medical images based virtual surgical planning (VSP) technology, to craniomaxillofacial reconstruction has been gaining increasing attention to reconstructive surgeons. This article illustrates the components, system and clinical management of the VSP and CAD/CAM technology including: data acquisition, virtual surgical and treatment planning, individual implant design and fabrication, and outcome assessment. It focuses primarily on the technical aspects of the VSP and CAD/CAM system to improve the predictability of the planning and outcome.

  • 디지털치의학의 발달과 함께 computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)을 이용한 3D 제작산업이 최근 급격한 성장을 하고 있다. 디지털 방식을 이용한 의치 제작 또한 최근의 디지털치의학 기술의 발전으로 증가하는 추세에 있다. CAD/CAM 제작방법은 크게 두가지 타입으로 나눌 수 있다: 절삭가공, 적층가공, 밀링과 같은 절삭가공은 블록 형태의 재료를 깎아 제조하는 기술을 토대로 하며, 3D printing과 같은 적층가공은 재료를 적층 방식으로 쌓아 올려 제조하는 기술을 토대로 한다. 적층가공은 밀링이 어려운 복잡한 구조의 제작에 적용할 수 있다. 본 증례에서, 적층가공방법이 레진상 총의치 제작에 이용되었다. 디지털방식을 적용한 의치의 사용기간동안 기능적, 심미적으로 만족할 만한 결과를 보여주었다.

  • 본 증례는 다수의 치아 상실과 심한 치아 마모로 인해 교합 고경(occlusal vertical dimension)의 감소 및 수복 공간 부족을 보이는 환자에 대한 computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) 기술을 활용한 완전 구강 회복 치료이다. 진단 단계에서 교합 고경에 대한 여러 분석을 통해 교합 고경 증가를 통한 완전 구강 회복을 계획하였다. 새롭게 설정된 교합 고경을 반영한 임시 수복물을 환자에게 적용하여 적응시키고, 이중 스캔 방법을 통해 임시 수복물의 정보를 최종 수복물에 옮긴 후, 3D 프린팅을 통해 금속 코핑을 제작하여 최종 고정성 금속 도재 수복물을 완성하였다. 이후 전자 서베잉과 3D 프린팅을 통해 가철성 국소의치 금속 구조물을 제작, 최종 가철성 국소의치로 환자치료를 완료하였다. 이러한 디지털 기술을 활용한 완전 구강 회복 치료로 환자는 기능적, 심미적으로 만족하였고, 술자는 임상적으로 받아들일 만한 치료결과로 판단하였다.

  • Direct Metal Manufacturing (DMM) is a new additive process that aims to take die making and metalworking in an entirely new direction. It is the blending of five common technologies : lasers, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), sensors and powder metallurgy. The resulting process creates parts by focusing an industrial laser beam onto a tool-steel work piece or platform to create a molten pool of metal. A small stream of powdered tool-steel metal is then injected into the melt pool to increase the size of the molten pool. By moving the laser beam back and forth, under CNC control, and tracing out a pattern determined by a computerized CAD design, the solid metal part is built line-by-line, one layer at a time. DMM produces improved material properties in less time and at a lower cast than is possible with traditional fabrication.

  • 방사선치료를 받은 상악에 임플란트 지지 고정성 보철물을 이용하여 수복하는 것은 골치유능력이 낮기 때문에 상세한 치료계획이 필요하다. All-on-4 개념에 의한 임플란트 식립은 골이식을 피하면서 임플란트를 매식할 수 있어 유리하다. 일반적으로 경사된 임플란트에는 기성 경사형 지대주를 사용해왔다. 본 임상증례에서는 computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)으로 제작된 지대주를 사용하였다. 본 증례는 all-on-4 개념에 의해 임플란트를 매식하고 CAD/CAM titanium 지대주를 제작한 다음 CAD/CAM zirconia 고정성 보철물로 수복하여 좋은 결과를 얻었기에 보고하고자 한다.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography image models are helpful in reproducing the maxillofacial area; however, they do not necessarily provide an accurate representation of dental occlusion and the state of the teeth. Recent efforts have focused on improvement of dental imaging by replacement of computed tomography with other detailed digital images. Unfortunately, despite the advantages of medical simulation software in dentofacial analysis, diagnosis, and surgical simulation, it lacks adequate registration tools. Following up on our previous report on orthognathic simulation surgery using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software, we recently used the registration functions of a CAD/CAM platform in conjunction with surgical simulation software. Therefore, we would like to introduce a new technique, which involves use of the registration functions of CAD/CAM software followed by transfer of the images into medical simulation software. This technique may be applicable when using various registration function tools from different software platforms.

  • The treatment of craniofacial anomalies has been challenging as a result of technological shortcomings that could not provide a consistent protocol to perfectly restore patient-specific anatomy. In the past, wax-up and impression-based maneuvers were implemented to achieve this clinical end. However, with the advent of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, a rapid and cost-effective workflow in prosthetic rehabilitation has taken the place of the outdated procedures. Because the use of implants is so profound in different facets of restorative dentistry, their placement for craniofacial prosthesis retention has also been widely popular and advantageous in a variety of clinical settings. This review aims to effectively describe the well-rounded and interdisciplinary practice of craniofacial prosthesis fabrication and retention by outlining fabrication, osseointegrated implant placement for prosthesis retention, a myriad of clinical examples in the craniofacial complex, and a glimpse of the future of bioengineering principles to restore bioactivity and physiology to the previously defected tissue.

Restoration using dental CAD/CAM system in severe tooth wear patient: A case report

  • In a situation where a vertical dimension has to be increased, the normal occlusion, function and aesthetics should be restored after taking into consideration the neuromuscular system and temporomandibular join. In order to do this, the provisional prosthesis should be made according to the patient's information. Moreover, the period of adjustment should be made through the provisional prosthesis modification, if necessary. The patient is then transferred to the final prosthesis to obtain results that are satisfactory. In the modern-day world, provisional prosthesis are replicated using three dimensional scanning and computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) then made into final prosthesis. The adaptability of stomatognathic system can be judged by the PMMA provisional restoration. Functional and aesthetical aspect can be obtained. The adjustment period can be shortened by an intraoral correction and proper wear between provisional restorations. By using the CAD/CAM technology that transfers the information right into the final prosthesis.

전동 스쿠터 프레임의 구조 진동해석 연구 (Structure-Vibration Analysis of Electric Scooter Frame)

  • The purpose of this study was to ensure the safety of a scooter frame through a structure and vibration analysis according to the tube thickness and weight of the frame of the electric scooter, which is currently being commercialized. According to the results of this study, the largest displacement value of 0.13238mm appeared in the 3-mm thickness when applying the 100-kg load according to the thickness, and 0.026591mm and 0.019062mm appeared in the 4-mm and 5-mm thicknesses, respectively. The difference between the 4-mm and 5-mm values was 0.007529mm, and it showed low displacement. Thus, the frame of more than 4-mm thickness was considered safe. In addition, the experimental result for the natural frequency from Mode 1 to Mode 6 in the vibration analysis was within 601.88Hz. In the 5-mm frame, the durability regarding the vibration was recognized as the best due to the appearance of the critical frequency (341.03Hz).
