Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) in Nutrition Education for Junior High School Students

  • We developed a junior high school-level computer assisted instruction CAI lesson on obesity and weight control and compared its effectiveness with the lecture/discussion method. we collected pretest and posttest data on knowledge an dinterest in obesity and weight control form 450 students in junior high school We randomly assigned three groups the CAI lesson group a comparable lecture/discussion lesson group and control group There were significant difference among these three groups in posttest knowledge scores and in interest in weight control CAI student's responses to learning by computer were significantly positive.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate studesnts' attitudes toward computers and science subject using CAI(Computer-Assisted Instruction) as an instructional strategy in the elementary school level of science and computer literacy course. The influence of CAI programs on learner's attitudes toward computers and science varied according to the variables of,(l)sex (2)experience by computer learning, (3)learner's attitudes toward computers and science. Eighty nine samples were divided into the two groups.One group(48 studesnts)which is in the experimental group took a science instruction using CAI programs and computer literacy course, another group which is in the control group took only a science instruction using CAI programs. Data were collected and compared the experimental group with the control group. The results indicate as follows:(l) studesnts took science instruction using the CAI programs appeared a positive attitudes toward science. (2) the science attitudes of science instruction using the CAI programs was more effective in the lower group than in the upper group. (3) computer literacy course produced the positive attitude toward computers regardless of the experience by computer learning. (4) students using CAI programs with computer literacy course were more effective than students using CAI program only. (5) science instruction using the CAI programs was not found a meaningful difference by sex.

협동적인 컴퓨터 보조 수업이 중학생들의 과학 학습에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Cooperative Computer-Assisted Instruction on Middle School Students' Learning in Science)

  • 본 연구에서는 협동적인 CAI와 개별적인 CAI가 중학생들의 과학 개념, 학업 성취도, 수업 환경에 대한 인식, 그리고 학습동기에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. 중학교 3개 학급을 대상으로 분자 운동 단원에 대해 5차시 동안 협동적 CAI, 개별적 CAI, 전통적 수업을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 개념, 수업 환경에 대한 인식, 학습동기 검사에서 협동학습 집단의 평균이 전통적 수업 집단에 비해 유의미하게 높았으며, 개념의 파지 검사에서 협동학습 집단의 개념 이해도가 더 높게 나타났다. 또한, 개념의 파지 및 학습동기 검사에서 수업 처치와 사전 성취 수준 사이의 상호작용 효과가 있었다. 이에 대한 교육학적 함의를 논의하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 개념 학습에서 학생들의 개념 이해 수준에 적응적인 CAI의 효과를 개념 이해도, 개념 파지, 학습 동기, 컴퓨터 보조 수업에 대한 인식 측면에서 조사하였다. 서울시의 한 남녀 공학중학교 1학년 94명의 학생들을 통제 집단, CAI 집단 적응적 CAI 집단에 임의로 배치하고, 7차시 동안 '분자의 운동'에 대하여 수업을 실시하였다. 이원 공변량 분석 결과 적응적 CAI 집단의 개념검사 점수 및 학습 동기 검사 점수가 통제 집단의 점수들에 비하여 유의미하게 높았다. 개념 파지검사에서는 적응적 CAI 집단의 점수가 다른 두 집단의 점수에 비하여 유의미하게 높았다. 개념 이해도, 개념 파지, 학습 동기 검사에서 수업 처치와 사전 성취 수준 사이의 상호작용 효과는 없었다. 컴퓨터 보조 수업에 대한 인식에서는 적응적 CAI 집단의 학생들이 CAI 집단의 학생들보다 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다.

초등학생 구강보건교육을 위한 컴퓨터 기반 교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과 평가 (Development and evaluation of oral health education program using computer assisted instruction for elementary school children)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to develop and to evaluate the oral health education program using computer assisted instruction(CAI) for the elementary school students. This study was carried out from November, 2012 to February, 2013. Methods : The subjects were 188 elementary school students of the first, second, and third grades in Buk-gu, Busan. The education was provided as computer assisted instruction and conventional classroom education. Three trained dental hygienists recorded three times of knowledge of oral health, oral health attitude, oral health behaviors and the plaque control index(O'Leary index). Results : CAI group showed high score of oral health knowledge of 6.74 points, 8.62 points and 8.38 points(p<0.01). In oral health attitude, the scores were 7.40 points, 8.01 points, and 7.99 points(p<0.05). In oral health behavior, the scores were 5.47 points, 6.14 points, and 5.61 points(p<0.05). The plaque control index was 22.59 points, 19.69 points, and 21.44 points(p<0.01). Conclusions : CAI education program of this study showed the effective education for the elementary school students. So the CAI education program can be useful and disseminated to the community project.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the computer assisted instruction program in multimedia environment, to examine the relative effects of two types of multimedia learning on science achievement and attitude towards science learning and to investigate the effects of treatment and students' learning ability. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. On science achievement; The multimedia learnings were more effective than the traditional one. Difference between multimedia learning I (through individualistic learning) and multimedia learning II(through peer interaction) was not significant. There was not interaction effect of treatment and students' learning ability. 2. On attitude towards science learning; The multimedia learnings were more effective than the traditional one. The multimedia learning I (through individualistic learning) was more effective than the multimedia learning II (through peer interaction). There was no interaction of treatment and students' learning ability. 3. On students' perceptions on multimedia learning; The students in the multimedia classes showed the multimedia learning were good in causing interest. making students absorbed in studies, and giving many learning materials, but not good in a couple of points such as making students bored and not explaining in detail.

컴퓨터를 활용한 수학학습에 대한 사회문화적 관점 (Sociocultural perspectives on mathematics learning using computer)

  • Interaction through communication plays critical role in the mathematics learning in the sociocultural perspectives. The communication make the students construct shared knowledge, and also plays a role of mediation in making meaning. So, we have to consider sociocultural eprspectives in design of the mathematics leaning using computer. While Computer Assisted Instruction was the one-directional teaching program which proceed from computer to students, mathematics leaning using computer in the sociocultural perspectives have to consider two-directional instruction that proceed from computer to students as well as from students to computer. This interactional activity is the critical thing in the mathematics learning using computer.

  • 본 연구에서는 CAl가 고등학생들의 개념 이해도, 수리문제 해결능력, 학습 동기, 그리고 화학에 대한 태도에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. CAl 프로그램은 물질의 동적인 입자성을 강조하기 위해 애니메이션을 사용하여 분자 운동을 제시하였고, 이해-계획-풀이-검토의 4단계 문제 해결 전략에 대하여 학습자의 반응 유형에 따라 각 단체별로 즉각적인 피드백을 주도록 구성하였다. 서울시에 소재한 여자 고등학교 두 반을 선택하여 기체 법칙에 대하여 4차시 동안 CAl와 전통적 수업을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 화학 개념 검사, 화학 수리문제 해결능력 검사에서 CAl 집단 학생들의 검사 점수가 통제 집단에 비해 유의미하게 높았다. 또한, CAl 집단 학생들의 학습 동기 및 화학 수업에 대한 태도가 통제 집단 학생들에 비해 유의미하게 향상되었다.

초등과학교육과정과 컴퓨터교육에 관한 연구 (A study on the Elementary Science Curriculum and Computer Based Education)

  • Computer based instruction in the elementary science curriculum will be played an important role through the fifth curriculum reform from the 1989 school year. This is essential for the science instruction because the strategies on the problem-solvings and inquiry approaches can be utilized for the science classroom. Computer education can be thought as the education about the computer and the education using the computer. Of them the education using the computer means the computer assisted instruction(CAI) what is called all the possible activities using the computer in the classroom. Student achievement as the result of CAI depends on the learning activities of students and the instructional techniques and strategies of teachers using the computer. However, computer based education to enhance the student achievement is pointed out the lacks of the standardized Korean alphabet code and the compatibility of qualified software. These problems will be relieved according to the coding for the Korean alphabet of SUPER PILOT program language.
