  • In this paper, a example of a development of web-based remote monitoring and control system using Java technology on TCP/IP is proposed. We implemented Client/Server socket programs using Java Socket class, and applied those to a greenhouse made from LEGO blocks and made web-based greenhouse remote monitoring and control system. Implemented System transferred states of greenhouse to client programs, and control signals from client program were transferred to Server. Greenhouse model was controlled well by the system.

  • In this paper, we investigate the D2D Transmitter(Tx) and Receiver(Rx) pair assignment problem in the cellular system where D2D users share the uplink resource of the cellular system. Sharing the uplink resource of the cellular system may cause interference to the cellular system, though it is beneficial to improve the D2D user Capacity. Therefore, to protect the cellular users, D2D transmit power should be carefully controlled. In this work, we focus on optimal Tx-Rx assignment in such a way that the total transmit power of users is minimized. First, we consider the optimum Tx-Rx assignment in general and the corresponding complexity. Then, we propose an iterative D2D Tx-Rx assignment algorithm with low complexity that can minimize total transmit power of users. Finally, we present the numerical examples that show the complexity and the convergence to the unique transmit power level.

  • The value of a system is highly dependent upon its reliability, Reliability means not merely correctness but means fault tolerance of the system. This paper emphasizes software fault tolerance in design stage especially in case of computer controlled system. The general method of fault tolerance design especially including dual computer system and its advantage and disadvantage was introduced. Finally for example of fault tolerance design we would like to present our GTK-500 EPABX.

  • To improve the performance of the tracked vehicle system, we examined the feasibility of using the preview control for the tracked vehicles suspension system. We proposed a method to apply a linear optimal preview control to the tracked vehicle system. To avoid the complexity of modeling the track subsystem and kinematical nonlinearity in the trailing arm suspension, we classified these as unknown dynamics and disturbances. We used the Time Delay Control(TDC) method to make sprung mass dynamics follow that of linear preview controlled tracked vehicle model by compensating the uncertainties and disturbances. We have verified by the computer simulation that the proposed method shows good robus...

  • CCD camera is usually used for monitoring device. In most cases, he monitoring is performed from long distance. In this study, a camera system controlled through internet is developed. Using the system, not only we can get image information in real time but also we can control the orientation of the camera from long distance. Furthermore wireless communication is carried out between the camera and the server computer for verity of the application.

  • We investigated a nanoscale inertia sensor based on telescoping carbon nanotubes, using classical molecular dynamics simulations. The position of the telescoping nanotubes is controlled by the centrifugal force exerted by the rotation platform, thus, position shifts are determined by the capacitance between carbon nanotubes and the electrode, and the operating frequency of the carbon nanotube oscillator. This measurement system, tracking oscillations of the carbon nanotube oscillator, can be used as the sensor for numerous types of devices, such as motion detectors, accelerometers and acoustic sensors.

  • Several Solid Freeform Fabrication Systems(SFFS) are commercialized in a few companies for rapid prototyping. However, they have many technical problems including the limitation of applicable materials. A new method of speedy prototyping is required for the recent manufacturing environments of multi-item and small quantity production. The objectives of this paper include the development of a novel method of SFFS, the ${CAFL}^{VM}$(Computer Aided Fabrication of Lamination for Various Material), and the manufacture of the various material samples for the certification of the proposed system and the creation of new application areas. For these objectives, the technologies for a highly accurate robot path control, the optimization of support structure, CAD modeling, adaptive slicing was implemented. In this paper, we design an algorithm that the cutting path of a laser beam which is controlled with constant speed. The laser beam is tangentially controlled in order to solve the inaccuracy of a 3D model surface. The designed algorithm for constant-speed path control and tangent-cutting control is implemented and experimented in the ${CAFL}^{VM}$ system.

  • In this study, we propose a fault analysis method for a power distribution grid with PCS-based DERs. We first explain the characteristics of a PCS-based DER. According to the characteristics, the DER is considered as a current-controlled voltage source, which produces varying voltages within a certain limit so that currents equal to given references flowing from the DER to the grid (currents controlled). So, we introduce the symmetrical equivalent models in the form of varying voltage source for fault analysis and then, construct a convex optimization problem to solve the fault problem associated with the equivalent models and grid conditions. Thus, the proposed method enables to perform a proper fault analysis considering the characteristics of the DER, which are currents controlled, voltage limited, and unity power factor achievement. To verify the validity of the proposed method, we perform computer simulations with the proposed method and with MATLAB Simulink, and the results are compared.

  • This paper presents design and implementation methods of the eye-controlled mouse using the real-time tracking of the three dimensional gazing point. The proposed method is based on three dimensional data processing of eye images in the 3D world coordinates. The system hardware consists of two conventional CCD cameras for acquisition of stereoscopic image and computer for processing. And in this paper, the advantages of the proposed algorithm and test results are described.

  • In order to investigate the effect of dissolved oxygen (DO) level on AVM $B_{1a}$ production by a high yielding mutant of Streptomyces avermitilis, five sets of bioreactor cultures were performed under variously controlled DO levels. Using an online computer control system, the agitation speed and aeration rate were automatically controlled in an adaptive manner, responding timely to the oxygen requirement of the producer microorganism. In the two cultures of DO limitation, the onset of AVM $B_{1a}$ biosynthesis was observed to casually coincide with the fermentation time when oxygen-limited conditions were overcome by the producing microorganism. In contrast, this phenomenon did not occur in the parallel fermentations with DO levels controlled at around 30% and 40% throughout the entire fermentation period, showing an almost growth-associated mode of AVM $B_{1a}$ production: AVM $B_{1a}$ biosynthesis under the environments of high DO levels started much earlier than the corresponding oxygen-limited cultures, leading to a significant enhancement of AVM $B_{1a}$ production during the exponential stage. Consequently, approximately 6-fold and 9-fold increases in the final AVM $B_{1a}$ production were obtained in 30% and 40% DO-controlled fermentations, respectively, especially when compared with the culture of severe DO limitation (the culture with 0% DO level during the exponential phase). The production yield ($Y_{p/x}$), volumetric production rate (Qp), and specific production rate (${\bar{q}}_p$) of the 40% DO-controlled culture were observed to be 14%, 15%, and 15% higher, respectively, than those of the parallel cultures that were performed under an excessive agitation speed (350 rpm) and aeration rate (1 vvm) to maintain sufficiently high DO levels throughout the entire fermentation period. These results suggest that high shear damage of the high-yielding strain due to an excessive agitation speed is the primary reason for the reduction of the AVM $B_{1a}$ biosynthetic capability of the producer. As for the cell growth, exponential growth patterns during the initial 3 days were observed in the fermentations of sufficient DO levels, whereas almost linear patterns of cell growth were observed in the other two cultures of DO limitation during the identical period, resulting in apparently lower amounts of DCW. These results led us to conclude that maintenance of optimum DO levels, but not too high to cause potential shear damage on the producer, was crucial not only for the cell growth, but also for the enhanced production of AVM $B_{1a}$ by the filamentous mycelial cells of Streptomyces avermitilis.
