  • A computer vision system for robot is developed which can recognize a variety of two dimensional complex objects in gray level noisy scenes. the system is also capable of determining the position and orientation of the objects for robotlc manipulation. The hardware of the vision system is developed and a new edge tracking technique is also proposed. The linked edges are approximated to sample line drawing by split and merge algorithm. The system extracts many features from line drawing and constructs relational structure by the concave and convex hull of objects. In matching process, the input obhects are compared with the objects database which is formed by learning ability. Thelearning process is so simple that the system is very flexible. Several examples arc shown to demonstrate the usefulness of this system.

  • The flow of technology is going to human-oriented direction, from the time when the computer was first invented, to now where new computing environment using mobile and global network are everywhere. On that technology flow, ubiquitous is being suggested as new paradigm of computing environment. Augmented Reality is one of ubiquitous technologies that provide the interactions between human and computer. By adding computer-generated information to real information and their interaction, user can get the improved and more knowledgeable information about real world. The purpose of this paper is to show the possibility of applying vision based augmented reality to maintenance of product system.

  • This paper proposes a local path-planning algorithm that enables a mobile robot with vision sensor in a local area. The proposed method based on projective geometry and a wavefront method finds local-paths to avoid collisions using 3-D walls or obstacles map generated using projective geometry. Simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed method

  • It is very important to track a complicate weld seam for the welding automation. Very recently, laser vision sensor becomes a useful sensing tool to find the seams. Until now, however studies of welding automation using a laser vision sensor, focused on either image processing or feature recognition from CCD camera. Even though it is possible to use a simple algorithm for tracking a simple seam, it is extremely difficult to develop a seam-tracking algorithm when the seam is more complex. To overcome these difficulties, this study introduces a simulation system to develop the seam tracking algorithm. This method was verified experimentally to reduce the time and effort to develop the seam tracking algorithm, and to implement the sensing device.

  • One of the preferred methods that can be used to verify the results of finite element analysis is to measure surface strains of the deformed part for purpose of direct comparison with simulation results. Instead of using the usual manual method the vision-based measurement method is capable of determining surface geometry and strain from the deformed grid pattern automatically with the help of a computer. To obtain strain distribution over an area, the coordinates of such a surface grid are determined from the multiple video images by applying the photogrammetry principle. Methods to improve the overall accuracy of the vision-based strain measurement system are explored and the possible accuracies that can be attained by such a measurement method are discussed. A major emphasis is placed on the initial grid application method its accuracy and ease of subsequent image processing. Finite element analyses of limiting dome height(LDH) test are carried out and the results of them are compared with exsperimen-tal data.

  • This paper presents a new technique to implement the real-time recognition for shapes and model number of parts based on an active vision approach. The main focus of this paper is to apply a technique of 3D object recognition for non-contacting inspection of the shape and the external form state of precision parts based on the pattern recognition. In the field of computer vision, there have been many kinds of object recognition approaches. And most of these approaches focus on a method of recognition using a given input image (passive vision). It is, however, hard to recognize an object from model objects that have similar aspects each other. Recently, it has been perceived that an active vision is one of hopeful approaches to realize a robust object recognition system. The performance is illustrated by experiment for several parts and models.

  • Driving is a complex vigilance task that includes improper lookout, excessive speed and inattention. The primary objective of this research is to detect driver drowsiness so that the driver can be alerted to an impending traffic accident in performance. We developed the automatic detection and warning system during drowsy driving. A drowsiness detection system must be able to monitor driver status and detect the detrimental changes of a driver performance. Eyeblink has been found to be a reliable factor of drowsiness detection in earlier studies. As an additional parameter, we also considered the yawning which often occurs in a low vigilance state and predicts the drowsy state. We used a computer vision method to extract the eyeblink and yawning in the face image sequences. When the drowsy state was detected, the driver was refreshed by alarming device and menthol scent generator after deciding the warning level by fuzzy logic. For the evaluation of our system, we measured the physiological parameters such as EOG and EEG. The results indicated that it is possible to detect and alert the driver drowsiness temporarily or continuously by using our system.

  • In this paper, an automatic B/STUD inspection system has been developed using the computer aided vision system. Index Table has been used to get the rapid measurement and multi-camera has been used to get the high resolution in mechanical system. Camera calibration was suggested to perform the reliable Inspection. Image processing and data analysis algorithms for B/STUD inspection system has been investigated and were performed quickly with high accuracy. As a result, Inspection system of a B/STUD can be measured with a high resolution in real time.
