  • The purpose of this study is to statistically analyze the correlation between CS Unplugged education and the computational thinking of gifted and talented students. In this study, qualitative research was conducted for 17 students in 5th grade gifted class at an elementary school in the city of Yongin. Students participated in 10 hours of CS unplugged classes. Student questionnaire, class journals, student activity sheets, and student interview records were collected and qualitatively analyzed. In order to supplement the qualitative data, computational thinking ability tests were also administered. The results of the study are as follows. First, CS unplugged education plays an effective role in improving CT of gifted and talented students. Second, it was not every sub-area of CT that CS unplugged education brought statistically significant improvements in. Third, CS unplugged education is suitable to be presented as the first step of the SW curriculum for gifted and talented students.

  • The informatics curriculum which was revised in 2015 presents the growth of creative and convergent talents as a main goal, and what is essential in the growth of creative and convergent talents is Computational Thinking(CT). In this study, in line with the goal of the growth of creative and convergent talents, the subject of IoT technology and liberal arts and natural sciences integration course was combined with the contents of informatics textbook, and the teaching-learning program was developed. In order to verify the effect of the developed teaching-learning program, the experimental research was conducted, and as a result of study, the mean of the experimental group was 10 points higher than that of the control group. Therefore, it could be known that there was an effect in the teaching-learning program suggested in this study. It is expected that the teaching-learning program suggested in this study can induce the learning motive and interest in SW education by directly implementing SW skill to the various fields of a real life through CT education based on Iot as well as a programing language, and improve convergent and scientific thinking through the experience of solving the problems which are blended with many subjects through liberal arts and natural sciences integration course, and designing them creatively.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and develop a SW education contents for enhancing computational thinking in elementary information education. First, to develop the SW education program, we divided into three areas: knowledge, skill and attitude. Knowledge is the abstraction in CS, skill is the automation in coding, and attitude as the value of CT. The SW education program was divided into three levels in consideration of difficulty, and each level consisted of 16 subjects. Validation was conducted for 19 SW education experts for the developed program. As a result, the validity of the program was secured beyond the minimum. We hope that this study will be a good resource for SW education that promotes students' computational thinking.

  • Due to increase in software-based new technologies, software developers are being required to creative problem solving. Especially, for a successful business change of software developers into a new industrial field, software analysis phase and design phase are important and it is an important task to strengthen these competences. In this study, two independent researches were conducted. First, a survey with 300 software developers was conducted and it was explored that uniform thinking of software developers caused by application of "standard software development methodology" made it difficult to approach creative problem solving. Based on this finding, the influences of 9 competences of computational thinking on software developers were analyzed after selecting 111 software developers with over 10 years of experience in the IT industry. As a result, it was revealed that abstraction was an important competence. The study finding demonstrates that software developers recognized design phase as the most important thing and abstraction of CT is the basics of other competences.

  • The results of the analysis of the 523 questions presented in the six textbooks and SW and robot units in the Blosser four-step classification categories are as follows. First, in the software unit, the analysis results showed that 77.1% were closed questions and 22.9% were open questions. Second, in the robot unit, the analysis results showed that 74.8% were closed questions and 25.2% were open questions. The CT Trigger Question was developed to overcome the limitations of the textbook questions, which were mainly closed questions, and to directly or indirectly induce computational thinking that teachers can utilize according to their educational content and activities.

  • The aim of software education is to increase students' Computational Thinking(CT) skills that they can compose problems and provide solutions which can be carried out effectively by information-processing systems. Furthermore, if problem solving situations can provide students with meaningful problem solving opportunities in authentic social contexts, then software education would be more valuable. This study pursued educational robot-based SW convergence education where 4th grade primary students have access to tangible outputs and can engage in authentic problem solving situations working with peers by using robots and programming. In addition, this study investigated the effectiveness of the classes in terms of computational thinking skills and social capabilities(collaborative skills and communication skills). The current study provides educational robot-based SW convergence education cases of a primary school and discusses the effectiveness of the classes in terms of students' computational thinking skills and social capabilities.

  • There has been rising demand within the South Korean government and among various industries in recent years on the need for strengthening the competitiveness of the software industry, which they highlight as being a core element for national competitiveness. This strategy would require enhancing the job competency of software developers. This study's results show that computational thinking (CT), which is one of the more creative solutions to the problem, has a positive effect on the enhancement of software developers' job competency. Furthermore, the study finds that the software development tasks of simulation, algorithms and procedures, and parallelization (in that order) serve as influential elements for software developers, which differs from previous studies' findings. The South Korean government thus should emphasize education in these areas in order to enhance the nation's job competence. Because simulation, especially, has the greatest influence among these areas, there is a particular need to strengthen that area.
