  • There are two main problems in the current PLC ladder programming practices: First, currently there are no widely adopted systematic design methods to deal with PLC based control systems in the shop floor. So, the control logic design phase is usually omitted in current PLC programming development life cycle. Second, PLC ladder logic provides only microscopic view of system processes. As a result, it is difficult for FA engineers to have overall perspectives about the interaction of system components intuitively during the verification step of logic errors. To solve these problems, this paper proposed object-oriented design and automatic generation method of PLC ladder logic. Based on the proposed method, the computer software to assist the automatic ladder logic generation is also developed.

  • We present a construction of the linear reduction of Hilbert type proof systems for propositional logic to if-then-else equational logic. This construction is an improvement over the same result found in [4] in the sense that the technique used in the construction can be extended to the linear reduction of first-order logic to if-then-else equational logic.

  • This paper aims to define the relational logic of in-between code articles as well as within atomic sentences in Korean Building Code, as an intermediate research and development process for the automated building permit system of Korea. The approach depicted in this paper enables the software developers to figure out the logical relations in order to compose KBimCode and its databases. KBimCode is a computer-readable form of Korean Building Code sentences based on a logic rule-based mechanism. Two types of relational logic definition are described in this paper. First type is a logic definition of relation between code sentences. Due to the complexity of Korean Building code structure that consists of decree, regulation or ordinance, an intensive analysis of sentence relations has been performed. Code sentences have a relation based on delegation or reference each other. Another type is a relational logic definition in a code sentence based on translated atomic sentence(TAS) which is an explicit form of atomic sentence(AS). The analysis has been performed because the natural language has intrinsic ambiguity which hinders interpreting embedded meaning of Building Code. Thus, both analyses have been conducted for capturing accurate meaning of building permit-related requirements as a part of the logic rule-based mechanism.

  • The FIPA community is developing a range of agent-related standards, of which the centerpiece is an Agent Communication Language (ACL). This language includes a number of communicative acts explicitly intended to support negotiation. In this paper, we consider a multi-agent environment that exchanges the resources for achieving agents' goals, represent agents as computational logic-based formalizations, and describe a simple ACL for negotiation using logic-based agents. In particular, we introduce and compare some communication acts that enable counter-agents to know the reason of request(proposal) or the reason of rejection(refusal).

  • A quasi-optimization algorithm for generating a chain restaurant work scheduling (WS) is proposed based on Genetic Algorithm with fuzzy logic, where the whole weekly chain restaurant WS problem is decomposed to 7 daily WS problems and a combined weekly WS problem. Experimental result shows that a weekly schedule for 15 workers and 24 hours in a chain restaurant is produced in 6 minutes using the proposed algorithm implemented with C++ and executed on a PC(Athlon XP 1900+), where the quality of WS is satisfactorily evaluated by professional experts.

  • In this paper, an interval type-2 fuzzy logic system is designed and compared with a type-1 fuzzy logic system. To compare performance of a type-1 fuzzy logic system with the type-2 fuzzy logic system, we apply type-1 fuzzy logic system and type-2 system to modeling the noised data. Membership function of interval type-2 fuzzy logic system is designed consequents of rules including uncertainty. For general type-2 fuzzy logic system computational complexity is severe. On the other hand, theoretic and arithmetic computations for interval type-2 fuzzy logic systems are very simple.

  • In this paper, we present an iterative reliability-based modified majority-logic decoding algorithm for two classes of structured low-density parity-check codes. Different from the conventional modified one-step majority-logic decoding algorithms, we design a turbo-like iterative strategy to recover the performance degradation caused by the simply flipping operation. The main computational loads of the presented algorithm include only binary logic and integer operations, resulting in low decoding complexity. Furthermore, by introducing the iterative set, a very small proportion (less than 6%) of variable nodes are involved in the reliability updating process, which can further reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that, combined with the factor correction technique and a well-designed non-uniform quantization scheme, the presented algorithm can achieve a significant performance improvement and a fast decoding speed, even with very small quantization levels (3-4 bits resolution). The presented algorithm provides a candidate for trade-offs between performance and complexity.

  • In active noise control filter, LMS algorithms which used for control filter, assure the convergence property, and computational burden of these algorithms are proportionate to the filter taps. The convergence speed of LMS algorithms is mainly determined by value of the convergence coefficient, so optimal selection of the value of convergence coefficient is very important. In this paper, We proposed novel adaptive fuzzy logic LMS algorithms with FIR filter structure which has better convergence speed and less computational burden than conventional LMS algorithms, for single channel active noise control with ill conditioned signal case. Computer simulations were performed to show the effectiveness of a proposed algorithms.

  • A hybrid knowledge model which amalgamates an object-oriented modeling approach and logic programming implementation is presented for structural health monitoring and diagnosis of instrumented structures. Domain knowledge in structural monitoring and diagnosis is formalized and represented in a logic-based object-oriented modeling environment. The model and environment have been implemented and illustrated in the context of a laboratory case study of damage detection in a successively damaged steel structure.
