In this paper, a brief overview of problems related to the electromagnetic, mechanical design criteria is reported. Also, we described the results about the comparisons between BLDC motor and induction motor for Turbo Compressor considering motor cost, efficiency and reliability. As a result, we select an induction motor for 12.5RT Turbo compressor for the application of small building's all-conditioning system. Finally, a prototype induction motor was manufactured and tested under compressor set. The test results were successfully met the mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic point of view.
The HEV (Hybrid Electrical Vehicle) becomes commercialized recently because of high fuel efficiency and low air pollution. The highest output power system except the traction motor is an air conditioner compressor in HEV system. The full or hybrid electric compressor is applied for HEV. The general HEC (Hybrid Electric Compressor) requires the half power motor and drive system of the full electric compressor because the rated output power of motor drive system is designed to charge the minimum cooling capacity at the time of idle stop. Therefore, this hybrid electric is more economical and practical solution. In this paper, we studied about the motor drive system of hybrid electric compressor for HEV. The applied voltage specification is 42 V, an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is designed and applied as the compressor drive motor.
This paper presents a design optimization process for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) for hybrid electric compressors (HEC) which are applied to hybrid electrical vehicles. A hybrid electric compressor is composed of an electric motor driving section and an engine driving section which is connected to the engine by a pulley belt. A hybrid electric compressor driving motor requires half of the full driving power of a compressor. Even though an engine is not operated at the idling stop mode, the electric motor drives the air-conditioner compressor by itself so that the air conditioning system can produce its minimum cooling capacity. In this paper, the design optimization of an IPMSM for a 42 (V) applied voltage system is studied using the design of experiment (DOE) and response surface method (RSM) of 6sigma. The driving characteristics of this motor drive system are measured and analyzed by experiment.
There are screw, reciprocating type turbo compressor by structure in an air compressor which is essential equipment on the industrial spot. Recently, the application range of a turbo compressor tend to be wide gradually. And this type of compressor needs high speed rotation of impeller in structure so high ratio gearbox and conventional induction motor driving required. This mechanical system have results of increased moment of inertia and mechanical friction loss. Recent studies of modern turbo compressor have been applied to developing super high speed BLDC motor and driver which remove gearbox that make its size small and mechanical friction loss minimum. To accomodate this tendency, we tried to develope a super high speed motor drive system for 150Hp, 70,000rpm direct drive Turbo compressor using DSP(Digital Signal Processor) and SVPWM(Space Vector Modulation PWM) technique. The results of this specific application show that super high speed driver and controller could be implemented well with digital electronics.
Torsional vibration analysis is necessary at design stage to ensure the reliability of a system particularly when the driven machine is a reciprocating compressor. This paper contains the results of torsional vibration analysis and fatigue strength evaluation for 540 kW compressor driving motor. Torsional vibration analysis showed that the $2^{nd}$ torsional mode of the entire shaft system has the possibility of resonance with the $14^{th}$ order excitation of compressor and twin line frequency of motor at operating speed. Therefore, the analyses were required to ensure the structural reliability of the motor. The fatigue strength was evaluated for the shaft and inner fans using the results of forced vibration analysis. It is concluded that the motor has sufficient fatigue strength under normal operating condition.

The 3-stage centrifugal compressor is used in order to measure the noise spectra of compressor, and analyze the results. Two cases are investigated for compressor noise components. Case I includes total system such as compressor, inter-cooler, motor, and Case II excludes cooling system. BPF tonal noise is important in compressor, and cooling system including inter-cooler contributes to broadband noise. Also, motor, gear box, and motor cooling fan are the second contributions to total compressor noise. Centrifugal compressor flow-field is calculated using two-dimensional grid and Navier-Stokes equations. Static pressure increases, and total pressure decreases, as air passes through the compressor components.

A rotary compressors are used most widely In air-conditioning systems. Noise and vibration of a rotary compressor is an important problems during turning on and off as well as during operating. To estimate the vibration occurring during turning on and off, vibration analysis of a motor-compressor coupled system is required. In this paper, through modeling the motor and solving the forces from the equations of motion of the moving parts, the analysis of vibration of the compressor taking into consideration of the effects of motor and moving parts was performed. The accelerations of accumulator during turning on. turning off and operation are simulated. And simulated accelerations are compared with those of experimental data.
The feasibility of an oil-free, motor-driven, two-stage centrifugal compressor supported by air bump bearings is investigated. This centrifugal compressor is driven by a 75 kW motor at an operating speed of 39,000 RPM, and a pressure ratio of the compressor is set up to 4. The analysis is performed by using bearing equilibrium position, heaving stillness, Campbell diagram, unbalance response, and stability. It is demonstrated in this paper that air bump bearings can be adopted well to an oil-free, motor-driven, centrifugal compressor. Specially, Cu-coated bump bearings have enough damping force to reduce a synchronous unbalance for rigid modes of the two-stage compressor. Futhermore, this concept may be applied to the flexible rotor system such as high speed turbomachinery with a super critical speed.

This paper discusses the development of a 3.5 kW switched reluctance motor (SRM)-based electric air-conditioning (AC) compressor, focusing primarily on the design aspects of the SRM and the integrated controller. In addition to the increased price of rare-earth magnets, SRM's operation capability at high speed and high temperature makes the SRM a viable alternative to the permanent magnet motor for electrically driven automotive air conditioning compressors. A compact and energy efficient scroll compressor is designed and constructed. Two feasible SRM topologies are considered, in terms of efficiency, torque ripple, and acoustic noise. Compact drive electronics are designed and employed to drive the SRM-based compressor. The static and dynamic performance is validated by simulation and experiment.

In general, compressors for refrigerators are major noise source in home environment. The vibration originated from a pump of a compressor can make noise through suspension springs and a LDT(Line Discharge Tube). Especially for the inverter motor driven compressor, the vibration is more serious than it of the constant speed compressors. Because the operation frequency range of an inverter motor driven compressor is very wide from 1600 rpm to 4200 rpm. In this paper, we propose the numerical model to reduce vibration by designing weight balancers and grommets. Results for analytical investigations on the exciting force and moment at the pump mass center, weight balancers and exciting frequency variation are presented.
