This paper aims to study the compressive behavior of circular hollow and concrete-filled steel tubular stub columns under simulated marine atmospheric corrosion. The specimens after salt spray corrosion were tested under axial compressive load. Steel grade and corrosion level were mainly considered in the study. The mechanical behavior of circular CFST specimens is compared with that of the corresponding hollow ones. Design methods for circular hollow and concrete-filled steel tubular stub columns are modified to consider the effect of marine atmospheric corrosion. The results show that linear fitting curves could be used to present the relationship between corrosion rate and the mechanical properties of steel after simulated marine atmospheric corrosion. The ultimate strength of hollow steel tubular and CFST columns decrease with the increase of corrosion rate while the ultimate displacement of those are hardly affected by corrosion rate. Increasing corrosion rate would change the failure of CFST stub column from ductile failure to brittle failure. Corrosion rate would decrease the ductility indexes of CFST columns, rather than those of hollow steel tubular columns. The confinement factor ${\xi}$ of CFST columns decreases with the increase of corrosion rate while the ratio between test value and nominal value shows an opposite trend. With considering marine atmospheric corrosion, the predicted axial strength of hollow steel tubular and CFST columns by Chinese standard agree well with the tested values while the predictions by Japanese standard seem conservative.

To analyze the effects compressive strength of concrete and longitudinal steel ratio on second-order moment of columns, 30tied rein reinforced concrete columns with hinged ends were tested. The 80mm square cross section was used and the amount of eccentricity was 24mm. The compressive strengths of column specimens with slenderness ratios of 10, 60, and 100were 250, 648 and 880kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and the longitudinal steel ratios were 1.98%(4-D6) and 3.95%(8-D6). The ratio of ultimate load capacity to that of short column with the same eccentricity (Pu/Pn) was much decreased at high slenderness ratio with increasing the compressive strength of concrete. And the lateral displacement of slender column at the ultimate load was decreased as the strength was increased. These are due to that at high slenderness ratio the load capacity and behavior of column are affected by flexural rigidity. And, it was also found that with increasing steel ratio, the value of Pu/Pn and the lateral displacement at the ultimate load were larger for the same slenderness ratio.

This paper presents the shear behavior in reinforced normal and high-strength concrete beams with Belite cement due to the increase of concrete compressive strength. The shear tests were conducted on thirty two beam specimens having concrete compressive strengths of 350 and 600kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The major experimental variables are compressive strength of concrete, shear span to depth ratio, and shear reinforcement ratio. The shear responses as to each variable are discussed in terms of shear capacity. The comparison of prediction equations with test results is also presented.

Four types of horizontal joint were tested to investigate the difference with regards to the compressive behavior and strength. These include wedge-type joints (i)with and (ii)without transverse reinforcement against splitting failure of the panel concrete, and wedge-type joints (iii)with different widths of joint concrete (6cm vs 8cm) and (iv)closed platform joint. It was shown that the compressive strength of wedge-type joint is about 10% higher than that of closed-type (platform) joint. But the effect of transverse reinforcement and joint concrete widths on the strength of the joints turned out be negligible. Also, the moduli of elasticity in panel and joint are compared and the equivalent moduli of the whole wall are derived.

This paper presents a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique to obtain compressive stress-strain data for rubber materials. An experimental technique that modifies the conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) has been developed for measuring the compressive stress-strain responses of materials with low mechanical impedance and low compressive strengths such as rubber. This paper introduces an all-polymeric pressure bar which achieves a closer impedance match between the pressure bar and the specimen materials. In addition, we are a pulse shaper to lengthen the rising time of the incident wave to ensure stress equilibrium and homogeneous deformation of a rubber materials. It is found that the modified technique can be determine the dynamic deformation behavior of an NBR rubber more accurately.
In the present investigation the experimental and theoretical flexural and compressive behavior of short tubular steel columns filled with plain concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) was examined. For a given length of the members, the effects of different geometry and dimensions of the transverse cross-section (square and circular) were investigated. Constituent materials were characterized through direct tensile tests on steel coupons and through compressive and split tension tests on concrete cylinders. Load-axial shortening and load-deflection curves were recorded for unfilled and composite members. Finally, simplified expressions for the calculus of the load-deflection curves based on the cross-section analysis were given and the ultimate load of short columns was predicted.

The purpose of this study is to predict the behavior of fatigue crack propagation as one of fracture mechanics on the compressive residual stress. We got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room temperature and low temperature at $25^{\circ}C$, -6$0^{\circ}C$, -8$0^{\circ}C$, and -10$0^{\circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. There is a difference between shot peened specimen and unpeened specimen. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peened specimen was lower than that of unpeened specimen. Shot peening is improve the resistance of crack growth by fatigue that make a compressive residual stress on surface. That is the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation. Temperature goes down, fatigue crack growth rate decreased.

This study was performed to examine the characteristic of creep behavior by reinforced clayey soil. So, it was carried out measurement of compressive strain and poisson's ratio by the reinforced soil mixtures. At each specimen was made by added calcium carbonate and 19mm length monofilaments into soil at designated ratio, and it was measured during the age of 30 days right after manufacturing the specimens. Because monofilaments controled increase of friction and dry shrinkage of soil into soil, compressive strain of monfilments reinforced soil with mixing rate of 0.3% is low value. And Because void was formed by compressive, vertical strain and horizontal strain of calcium carbonate reinforced soil with rate of 9% is high value.
We got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room temperature and low temperature at $25^{circ}C$, $-60^{circ}C$, $-80^{circ}C$, and $-100^{circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. And there is a difference between shot peened specimen and unpeened specimen. The purpose of this study is to predict the behavior of fatigue crack propagation as one of fracture mechanics on the compressive residual stress. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peened metal was lower than that of unpeened metal. The compressive residual stress made an impact on tension and compression of the plasticity deformation in fatigue crack plasticity zone. That is. the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation.
In this study, to investigate the effects of shot peening on crack growth behavior, crack growth tests are conducted on spring steels and shot peened cracks. The probabilistic crack growth equation, which can represemt the sigmoidal crack growth behavior as recently reported by Kim and Shim, is used to evaluate the experimental results. The results show that fatigue cracks grows slower in the shot peened specimen than in the unpeened and, due to the compressive residual stress occurring on the specimen surface. In the case of the shot peened specimen, the initial stress intensity factor range and the fracture toughness is higher than the non-peened specimen because the compressive residual stress affects crack growth and fracture of the specimen.
