Al7075-T6의 압축잔류응력 및 피로 수명에 미치는 재피닝의 효과 (Effects of Re-Peening on the Compressive Residual Stress and Fatigue Life of Al7075-T6)

  • The effects of re-peening on the compressive residual stress and fatigue life of Al7075-T6 were investigated. The compressive residual stress induced on the surface of components by shot peening is known to increase the fatigue life. However, the fatigue load relaxes the compressive residual stress of components. Re-peening is a technique to again induce the relaxed compressive residual stress and increase the total fatigue life of components. In this study, the re-peening process was applied to fatigue-loaded specimens. The compressive residual stress and fatigue life were examined for re-peened specimens with fatigue ratios of 30%, 50%, and 70%. The results showed that the compressive residual stress of the specimens was relaxed under the fatigue load. The re-peening process significantly increases the compressive residual stress and total fatigue life.

  • Recently the steel parts used for automiles and trains are required to be used under higher stress than ever before in need of the weight down. However, threr are a lot of problems with developing such of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. And got the following characteristics from crack growth test carried out stress ratio. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Un-peening material. And Compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue. So we cam obtain fallowings. (1) The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent of Paris equation. (2) Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. (3) The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress.

  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. The shot-peening method is used in order to improve the fatigue life of spring steel(JIS G SUP-9) which is used in suspension of automobile. The compressive residual is induced in this shot-peening process. This paper investigated the effect of the residual compressive stress on the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Main results are summarized as follows. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the level of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, it does not improve the fatigue life comparing when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

  • Fatigue tests were carried out at high temperature on a Cr-Mo-V steel in order to assess the fatigue life of components used in power plants. The characteristics of high temperature fatigue were divided in terms of cycle-dependent fatigue and time-dependent fatigue, each crack propagation rate was examined with respect to fatigue J-integral range, .DELTA. J$_{f}$and creep J-integral range, .DELTA. J$_{c}$. The fatigue life was evaluated by analysis of J-integral value at the crack tip with a dimensional finite element method. The results obtained from the present study are summarized as follows : The propagation characteristics of high temperature fatigue cracks are determined by .DELTA. J$_{f}$for the PP(tensile plasticity-compressive plasticity deformation) and PC(tensile plasticity - compressive creep deformation) stress waveform types, and by .DELTA. J$_{c}$for the CP(tensile creep- compressive plasticity deformation) stress waveform type. The crack propagation law of high temperature fatigue is obtained by analysis of J-integral value at the crack tip using the finite element method and applied to examine crack propagation behavior. The fatigue life is evaluated using the results of analysis by the finite element method. The predicted life and the actual life are close, within a factor of 2.f 2.f 2.

  • The compressive fatigue tests on the closed cell Al-Si-Ca alloy foams with two different thicknesses were performed using a load ratio of 0.1. The quasi-static and cyclic compressive behaviors were obtained respectively. The fatigue stress-life (S-N) curves were evaluated from the obtained cyclic compressive behaviors. S-N curves were presented for the onset of progressive shortening. It turned out that the fatigue strength showed higher value for the thicker foam and the onset of shortening of thinner foam took place earlier. The crushing was found to initiate in a single band which broadens gradually with additional fatigue cycles. Progressive shortening of the specimen took place due to a combination of low cycle fatigue failure and cyclic ratcheting.

열처리된 스프링강의 피로수명 개선을 위한 쇼트피닝 가공 효과 (Effect of Shot Peening on Fatigue Life of Heat Treated Spring Steel)

  • The effect of shot peening conditions on the fatigue properties of heat-treated spring steel has been investigated by using residual stress measurement and metallography. The mechanical properties of material did not change so much by shot peening. However, the fatigue strength and fatigue life increased about 20% to 40% by 1-step and 2-step shot peening process. The fatigue strength and life were closely related to the value and position of maximum compressive residual stress by shot peening process. In the case of warm shot peening, compressive residual stress of specimens shot peening processed at $200^{\circ}C$ was higher than those of specimens shot peening processed at room temperature, $100^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$.

  • Thick-walled cylinder with high pressure have had wide application in the armament industry. In the thick-walled cylinder, fatigue crack is generated at inner radius and developed toward the outer radius. To prevent generation of fatigue crack, the autofrettage process had been used. The compressive residual stress induced by the autofrettage process extends loading pressure and fatigue life of the thick-walled cylinder. In this study, the residual stress of single and compound cylinder by the autofrettage process was evaluated. The analytical compressive residual stress of single cylinder was good agreement with experimental result at inner radius. The analysis on the residual stress of compound cylinder was conducted. The compressive residual stress at inner radius was increased with the overstrain level. And fatigue life of the compound cylinder with initial crack was evaluated. The considered initial crack shape was straight and semi-elliptical. The fatigue life was extended with the overstrain level. The fatigue life of the compound cylinder with semi-elliptical crack was longer than straight crack. The suitable way to extend fatigue life of the compound cylinder was proposed.

현가장치재의 피로수명향상 공법개발에 관한 연구 (A Study of Development Methods of Fatigue Life Improvement for the Suspension Material)

  • The development of new materials with light weight and high strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on adopting residual stress(in this thesis). The compressive residual stress was imposed on the surface according to each shot velocity(57, 70, 83, 96 m/sec) based on Shot-peening, which is the method of improving fatigue life and strength. By using the methods mentioned above, the following conclusions have been drawn. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor, of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. 2. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

피로강도 및 수명에 미치는 Shot Peening에 의한 잔류응력의 영향 (Influence of residual stress due to shot peening on fatigue strength and life)

  • Procedures are presented for influence of shot peening on fatigue strength, fatigue life and effects of shot peening are discussed from experiments were taken between shot peened and unpeened SPS5, SM45C specimens. After the residual stress on shot peened specimens was measured by X-ray diffractometer, rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out. In addition, the compressive residual stress profile was obtained by the superposition method of three stresses which is based on Al-Obaid's equation. Predicted fatigue life considering residual stress profile which was obtained by the Al-Obaid's equation and another predicted fatigue life considering residual stress profile which was measured in test were compared. For the purpose of predicting fatigue life, Morrow's equation considering the residual stress and mean stress was used.
