  • Principle of foamed glass manufacturing process first starts with putting vitreous material powder into a mold. After the foaming calcination, foamed body should be annealed after separation from the mold. For this reason, existing manufacturing process could not be a continuous type process. In this study, in order to develop a continuous production process of foamed glass, the possibility of new foam glass manufacturing process was investigated by foaming calcination of the compact body obtained from compression-molding of vitreous raw materials in stead of using a mold. Through the experimental results of the foaming calcination of the compact body with adding various foaming agents such as $Na_2CO_3$, $CaCO_3$ and petroleum coke, into hydrated soda-lime vitreous raw materials, it was shown that developing a continuous process without using any molds for manufacturing foamed glass would be possible.

  • Diesel-Fueled HCCI(Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) Engine is an advanced combustion process explained as a premixed charge of diesel fuel and air is admitted into the cylinder and compression ignited. It has possibility to reduce NOx by spontaneous auto-ignition at multiple points that allows very lean combustion resulting in low combustion temperatures. Also PM could be reduced by the premixed combustion and no fuel-rich zones. But HCCI couldn't be realized because of the difficulties in vaporizing the diesel, control of combustion phase directly. To solve these problems, new fuel injection strategy, explained as the pilot fuel injection to promote ignition near TDC following the main fuel injection at the extremely advanced timing, is applied during the compression ratio is varied from 18.9:1 to 27.7:1 This is not a pilot fuel to promote the ignition but also the direct control method of the combustion phase. Experimental result shows the pilot fuel injection promote the ignition and the compression ignition of the HCCI engine is achieved as compression ratio becomes higher. Also there is an optimal pilot fuel injection timing for the HCCI combustion. NOx is reduced more than 90% compared to DI-Diesel case but PM and THC emission needs more investigation.

  • Molding shrinkage s variation is one of the problems to be solved in conventional injection molding. Despite many trying-out has been to solve these, intrinsic causes of shrinkage such as orientation and thermal exchange between melt and mold has yet not solved. For reducing shrinkage and residual stress on molding, injection compression molding process was invented. In this study, experiments about effect of injection compression molding's parameters on shrinkage of molding were conducted with PMMA and compared with conventional injection molding's shrinkage. Before the injection compression molding experiment, molding shrinkage rate was predicted by analyzing pvT graph and was compared with the results of experiment. The shrinkage rate of injection compression molding was lower than convention injection molding' one but was different from the predicted shrinkage. The reason was observed that experiment mold as not positive type, flowing backward of melt into nozzle and unreasonable mechanism of injection molding machine.

  • Stratified charge compression ignition (SCCI) combustion, also known as HCCI(homogeneous charge compression ignition), offers the potential to improve fuel economy and reduce emission. In this study, SCCI combustion was studied in a single cylinder gasoline DI engine, with a direct injection system. We investigated the effects of air-fuel ratio, intake temperature and injection timing such as early injection and late injection on the attainable SCCI combustion region. Injection timing during the intake process was found to be an important parameter that affects the SCCI region width. We also find it. The effects of mixture stratification and fuel reformation can be utilized to reduce the required intake temperature for suitable SCCI combustion under each set of engine speed and compression ratio conditions.

  • In order to recognize thermal efficiency and power improvement in case that diesel cycle is turned into diesel-atkinson cycle, the fuel-air diesel-atkinson cycle considered gas exchange process is analyzed non-dimensionally and thermodynamically. As a result, in case of diesel-atkinson cycle, as expansion ratio is increased, thermal efficiency and mean effective pressure is increased and it has maximum value at Rec=1. When diesel cycle is turned into diesel-atkinson cycle by late intake valve closing timing, thermal efficiency and power is decreased because of the decline of effective compression ratio and intake airflow, but it could be compensated by increase of compression ratio or super-charged. In case compression ratio is compensated, Rec appears 1 around 100$^{\circ}$ ABDC, and it is expected that thermal efficiency is enhanced by 14.3% compared with conventional diesel cycle. In case compression ratio and intake airflow are compensated simultaneously, super-charged pressure is demanded 2.06bar at Rec=1 and it is more efficient when only compression ratio is compensated in the view point of thermal efficiency.

  • JPEG is a most widely used standard image compression technology. This research introduces the JPEG image compression algorithm and describes each step in the compression and decompression. Image compression is the application of data compression on digital images. The DCT (discrete cosine transform) is a technique for converting a time domain to a frequency domain. First, the image is divided into 8 by 8 pixel blocks. Second, working from top to bottom left to right, the DCT is applied to each block. Third, each block is compressed through quantization. Fourth, the array of compressed blocks that make up the image is stored in a greatly reduced amount of space. Finally if desired, the image is reconstructed through decompression, a process using IDCT (inverse discrete cosine transform).

  • This study intends to reduce forming load by adding die rotation to flange-upsetting process. Materials arc formed by the compression and rotational torque which are accrued from rotation of the lower die accompanied by axial compression of the punch. For the theoretic analysis of flange-upsetting process using rotation die, slab method was used. Furthermore, for the verification of the theoretic analysis results, FEM simulation using DEFORM 3D a commercial software was done, and through the model material experiment using Prasticine, the results were compared and reviewed. Flange-upsetting process using rotation die shows reduced forming load compared with process without die rotation and demonstrates uniform distribution of strain. And as for the effect of the reduction of forming load, the less the aspect ratio(h0/d0) and the greater friction coefficient, the greater effect is. With increase in die rotation velocity, the effect of forming load reduction also increases little by little, but its effect on forming load reduction is very negligible compared with other forming parameters. Theoretic analysis results and simulation results coincided pretty well. The flange-upsetting process using die rotation are evaluated as useful process that can produce reduction of forming load and uniform strain.

  • In this paper, we investigate image and video compression techniques based on deep learning which are actively studied recently. The deep learning based image compression technique inputs an image to be compressed in the deep neural network and extracts the latent vector recurrently or all at once and encodes it. In order to increase the image compression efficiency, the neural network is learned so that the encoded latent vector can be expressed with fewer bits while the quality of the reconstructed image is enhanced. These techniques can produce images of superior quality, especially at low bit rates compared to conventional image compression techniques. On the other hand, deep learning based video compression technology takes an approach to improve performance of the coding tools employed for existing video codecs rather than directly input and process the video to be compressed. The deep neural network technologies introduced in this paper replace the in-loop filter of the latest video codec or are used as an additional post-processing filter to improve the compression efficiency by improving the quality of the reconstructed image. Likewise, deep neural network techniques applied to intra prediction and encoding are used together with the existing intra prediction tool to improve the compression efficiency by increasing the prediction accuracy or adding a new intra coding process.

  • Effects of retained compression strength on the collapsibility of $CO_2$ mold sand using sodium silicate were studied. The results obtained from the experiment are summurized as follows; 1) The sand mixtures increased their compression strength and retained compression strength when content of sodium silicate is high or mole ratio of sodium silicate is high. 2) Increase of retained strength has a maximum value at temperatures about $200^{\circ}C$. When the sample reached $800^{\circ}C$, the binder bridge are homogeneous. The retained strength is increased. 3) Decrease of retained strength at temperatures over $200^{\circ}C$ is caused by pore formation and additives of seacoal markedly accelerated pore formations.
