In this study, the effect of wearing functional compression pants is verified using a lower-limb wearable robot through a bio-signal analysis and subjective fit evaluation. First, the compression area to be applied to the functional compression pants is derived using the quad method for nine men in their 20s. Subsequently, functional compression pants are prepared, and changes in Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals when wearing the functional compression and normal regular pants inside a wearable robot are measured. The EEG and ECG signals are measured with eyes closed and open. Results indicate that the Relative alpha (RA) and Relative gamma wave (RG) of the EEG signal differ significantly, resulting in increased stability and reduced anxiety and stress when wearing the functional compression pants. Furthermore, the ECG analysis results indicate statistically significant differences in the Low frequency (LF)/High frequency (HF) index, which reflect the overall balance of the autonomic nervous system and can be interpreted as feeling comfortable and balanced when wearing the functional compression pants. Moreover, subjective sense is discovered to be effective in assessing wear fit, ease of movement, skin friction, and wear comfort when wearing the functional compression pants.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the degree of discomfort and to identify factors related with discomfort in patients wearing thigh-length compression stockings after orthopedic surgery. Methods: The participants were 105 patients wearing thigh-length compression stockings after orthopedic surgery at two hospitals in B city. Data were collected by the scale of discomfort in wearing compression stockings from July 5 to October 20, 2011. Results: Mean score of discomfort on wearing compression stockings was significantly higher at post-op. day 3 than day 1 (t=-2.30, p=.004). Discomfort scores for 'itching skin' and 'tightened leg' items were higher than others. There was significant difference in discomfort at post-op. day 1 according to surgical regions. The total score of discomfort at post-op. day 3 was positively related with the body mass index (r=.20, p=.041). Conclusion: Wearing thigh-length compression stockings to prevent deep vein thrombosis may cause physical and psychological discomfort for orthopedic surgical patients. To reduce discomfort in wearing compression stockings, nurses need to intervene discomfort and problems related to the stockings post-operatively.
This study presents a reasonable and economical DCM reinforcement length for the various factors (the embankment height, the distance from the embankment to the underground structure, the depth of the soft ground, and the compression index and the swelling index of the soft ground) that affect the stability of the structure due to lateral movement. Based on these results, we analyzed each factor's degree of influence and figured out which factor influenced the lateral movement most. The cross section of the embankment on the soft ground was modeled by using the Finite Element Program and reinforced with DCM. The results show that the increase rate of the reinforcement length with the increase of the embankment height is about 9~50%, the increase rate of the reinforcement length with the depth of soft ground is about 13~30%, and the increase rate of the reinforcement length with increasing compression index is about 3~25%. In addition, the influence of each factor on each other was analyzed. As a result, among the separation distance, the compressive index and the maximum to minimum slope ratio of the reinforcement length of the embankment height, the separation distance was the largest for the depth of soft ground. As the depth of the soft ground increases, the ratio of the maximum to minimum slope of the reinforcement length according to the embankment height is 3.75, the ratio of the maximum to minimum slope of the reinforcement length according to the spacing distance is 4.3, and the ratio of maximum to minimum slope according to compression index is 2.5. From these results, it is confirmed that the three factors are greatly affected by the depth of soft ground.

As main memory get cheaper, it becomes increasingly affordable to load entire index of DBMS and to access the index. Since speed gap between CPU and main memory is growing bigger, many researches to reduce a cost of main memory access are under the progress. As one of those, cache conscious trees can reduce the cost of main memory access. Since cache conscious trees reduce the number of cache miss by compressing data in node, cache conscious trees can reduce the cost of main memory. Existing cache conscious trees use only fixed one compression technique without consideration of properties of data in node. First, this paper proposes the DC-tree that uses various compression techniques and change data layout in a node according to properties of data in order to reduce cache miss. Second, this paper proposes the level of compression locality that describes properties of data in node by formula. Third, this paper proposes Forced Partial Decomposition (FPD) that reduces the nutter of cache miss. DC-trees outperform 1.7X than B+-tree, 1.5X than simple prefix B+-tree, and 1.3X than pkB-tree, in terms of the number of cache misses. Since proposed DC-trees can be adopted in commercial main memory database system, we believe that DC-trees are practical result.
Researches have been done to discover ways to strengthen peat soil deposits. In this model study, fibrous peat that is the most compressible types of peat has been reinforced with precast peat columns stabilized with ordinary Portland cement and polypropylene fibres. Rowe cell consolidation tests as well as plate load tests (PLTs) were conducted on various types of test samples to evaluate the strength and deformation of untreated peat and peat reinforced by various types of columns. PLTs were conducted in a specially designed and fabricated circular steel test tank. The compression index ($C_c$) and recompression index ($C_r$) of fibrous peat samples reduced considerably upon use of precast columns. Also, PLT results confirmed the results obtained from Rowe cell tests. Use of polypropylene fibres added to cement further decreased ($C_c$) and ($C_r$) and increased load bearing capacity of untreated peat. Finite element method (FEM) using Plaxis 3D was carried out to evaluate the stress distributions along various types of tested samples and also, to compare the deformations obtained from FEM analysis with the actual maximum deformations found from PLTs. FEM results indicate that most of the induced stresses are taken on the upper portion of tested samples and reach their maximum values below the loading plate. Also, a close agreement was found between actual deformation values obtained from PLTs and values resulted from FEM analysis for various types of tested samples.

A differential index assignment scheme is proposed for the image encoding system in which a variable-length tree-structured vector quantizer is adopted. Each source vector is quantized into a terminal node of VLTSVQ and each terminal node is represented as a unique binary vector. The proposed index assignment scheme utilizes the correlation between interblocks of the image to increase the compression ratio with the image quality maintained. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a much higher compression ratio than the conventional one does and that the amount of the bit rate reduction of the proposed scheme becomes large as the correlation of the image becomes large. The proposed encoding scheme can be effectively used to encode R images whose pixel values we, in general, highly correlated with those of the neighbor pixels.

Point cloud is widely used in 3D applications due to the recent advancement of 3D data acquisition technology. Polygonal mesh-based compression has been dominant since it can replace many points sharing a surface with a set of vertices with mesh structure. Recent point cloud-based applications demand more point-based interactivity, which makes point cloud compression (PCC) becomes more attractive than 3D mesh compression. Interestingly, an exploration activity has been started to explore the feasibility of PCC standard in MPEG. In this paper, a new color attribute compression method is presented for point cloud data. The proposed method utilizes the spatial redundancy among color attribute data to construct a color palette. The color palette is constructed by using K-means clustering method and each color data in point cloud is represented by the index of its similar color in palette. To further improve the compression efficiency, the spatial redundancy between the indices of neighboring colors is also removed by marking them using a flag bit. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a better improvement of RD performance compared with that of the MPEG PCC reference software.

This paper proposes an efficient noiseless encoding method of vector quantization(VQ) index using a dynamic index mapping. Using high interblock correlation, the proposed index mapper transforms an index into a new one with lower entropy. In order to achieve good performance with low computational complexity, we adopt 'the sum of differences in pixel values on the block boundaries' as the cost function for index mapping. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average bitrate by 40 - 50 % in ordinary VQ system for image compression. In addition, it is shown that the proposed index mapping method can be also applied to mean-residual VQ system, which allows the reduction of bitrate for VQ index by 20 - 30 %(10 - 20 % reduction in total bitrate). Since the proposed scheme is one for noiseless encoding of VQ index, it provides the same quality of the reconstructed image as the conventional VQ system.
