Various silanes, amino silane, vinyl silane, TESPD, and ZS (TESPD/zinc soap complex), are added into chlorinated isobutylene-isoprene copolymer (CIIR)/hard clay/carbon black (CB) compound and they are investigated with respect to the vulcanization characteristics, the processability, and the mechanical properties. In hard clay/CB filled system, only ZS silane added compound shows both lower Mooney viscosity and extrusion torque while vinyl silane added compound showed only a lower extrusion torque. All the ZS added compounds showed the lowest viscosity among them. The silane added compounds showed an increased modulus. In 'fatigue to failure' count test, the ZS added compound showed superior counts compared to other silane (amino, vinyl, TESPD) added compounds. The mechanical properties were significantly increased when the S2 and ZS were added into CIIR/hard clay/CB compound. The ZS added compounds showed a significant improvement on elongation modulus.
To clarify chemical constituents of Clematis heracleifolia, isolation and structure elucidation of the underground parts of C. heracleifolia were performed. Five compounds were isolated from $CHCl_3$ and n-BuOH soluble fraction of this plant. On the basis of spectral and physico-chemical data, the structure of isolated compounds were identified as coniferyl alcohol (1), scoparone (2), (+)-lariciresinol (3), phytosterols (4), and daucosterol (5), respectively. All compounds are isolated from this plant for the first time. To evaluate anti-acetylcholinesterase activity of the isolated compounds, compounds 1, 2, 3, and 5 were tested inhibition activity against acetylcholinesterase. Among tested compounds, daucosterol (5) showed acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity with $IC_{50}$ value of $6.1{\mu}M$.

The purification of the MeOH extracts from the aerial parts of Aceriphyllum rossii Engler (Saxifragaceae) using column chromatography furnished fourteen compounds (1 - 14). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were determined using mainly nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and mass spectrometry. All the isolated compounds were tested for their cytotoxic activity against LH-60, MCF-7 and HeLa cancer cells in vitro using a MTT assay method. Compounds possessing an olean-triterpenoid skeleton entirely exhibit dose dependent cytotoxic activity. These findings partially confirmed the anticancer effect of this medicinal plant, suggesting a further study on the anticancer potential of the triterpenoid structure in compounds from this plant.
Rubber compounds have high viscoelastic property. One of the viscoelastic behaviors during profile extrusion is the swelling of extrudate. In this study, die swells of rubber compounds at the capillary die have been investigated through experiment and computer simulation. Experiments and simulations have been performed using fluidity tester and commercial CFD code, Polyflow respectively. Die swells of rubber compounds in a capillary die were predicted using non-linear differential viscoelastic model, Phan-Thien-Tanner(PTT) model for various relaxation times and relaxation modes. The results of simulation were compared with the experiments. Pressure and velocity distribution, and circulation flows at the comer of capillary die have been investigated through computer simulation. It is concluded that the PTT model successfully represented the amount of the die swell of rubber compounds for various relaxation times at different modes.
There are various bioactive compounds in vegetables which are called 'phytochemicals' They are extranutritional constituents that typically occur in small quantities. They are being intensively studied to evaluate their effects on health. These biologically active compounds vary widely in chemical structure and function and are grouped accordingly, carotenoids, flavonoids, isothiocyanates, allyl compounds, indoles, isoflavones and saponins, etc. Traditionally used vegetables are defined, and their trivial names, biological functions and traditional and oriental medicinal effects are investigated in this study. Much scientific research needs to be conducted before we can begin to make science-based dietary recommendations. Despite this, there is sufficient evidence to recommend consuming vegetables rich in bioactive compounds, especially for the prevention of cancer.
Solvent extract of homogenates of fresh garlic or pickled garlic was subjected to GC-MS analysis, which showed 30 volatile sulfur compounds for fresh garlic and 20 compounds for processed one. Maior sulfur compounds from fresh garlic extract were identified to be 3-vinyl-[4H]-1,2-dithiin, diallyl disulfide,3,4-dimethylthiophene and methyl allyl sulfide. Meanwhile, the number of volatile compounds from pickled garlic decreased gradually during storage. Diallyl disulfide, methyl allyl trisulfide and diallyl trisulfide were major volatile sulfur compounds from pickled garlic stored for 50 days. It is appeared that the amount of trisulfides in pickled garlic increased gradually during storage, in contrast to the amount of dithiins and monosulfides in pickled garlic decreased.
An n-hexane extract of the roots of Aralia cordata Thunb. (Araliaceae) was found to show significant in vitro cytotoxic activity against P388D$_{1}$ lymphocytic leukemia cell in culture. Bioactivity-directed fractionation of this extract led to the isolation of four polyacetylenes, falcarindiol (1), dehydrofalcarindiol (2), falcarindiol-8-acetate (3) and dehydrofalcarindiol-8-acetate (4). Cytotoxicity of compounds 1 and 3 was found to be better than that of compounds 2 and 4 when these compounds were tested against eight in vitro tumor cell lines, namely, A549, HCT15, DLD1, MCF7, SKOV3, HL60, K562 and P388D$_{1}$. The fact that the cytotoxicity of compounds 1 and 3 against series of tumor cell lines was much stronger than that of compounds 2 and 4 suggested that the saturated carbon chain at the termial and the hydroxyl group at the C-3 are important for the activities. The requirement for the activity was further confirmed by synthesizing and assaying the acetate derivatives of compounds 1 and 2.
Antioxidative compounds contained in roasted safflower seeds were investigated. Six phenolic compounds, N-feruloylserotonin, N-(p-coumaroyl) serotonin, matairesinol, 8'-hydroxyarctigenin, acacetin 7-Ο-β-D-glucoside(tilianine) and acacetin were isolated and identified from the extract of seeds. The inhibitory effects of six phenolic compounds on 1,1-dipheny1-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical and lipid peroxidation induced by H₂O₂/FeSO₄in rat liver microsomes were determined. Two serotonins showed more potent DPPH radical scavenging activity, and a stronger inhibitory effect on the lipid peroxidation than that of α-tocopherol. In addition, acacetin and matairesinol also considerably inhibited lipid peroxidation, while 2-hydroxy-arctigenin and tilianine were inactive. These results suggest that phenolic compounds, including serotonins, lignans and flavonoids in the roasted safflower seeds can be used as potential dietary natural antioxidants.
The properties and electrochemical characteristics of anode material using pitch-coated graphite residue compounds by heat-treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour were investigated. The distance of layers of pitch-coated graphite residual compounds was 3.3539 ${\AA}$, which was as same as that of graphite. Its electrochemical and charge discharge characteristics were tested according to different four types of carbon material, natural graphite, pitch-coated graphite, amorphous graphite and pitch-coated graphite residual compounds, respectively. So it was shown the best charge-discharge characteristics in all of the samples. For the electrochemical and charge-discharge characteristics, although pitch-coated graphite residual compounds had different carbon contents 70% and 80%, these two samples were shown good electrochemical and charge-discharge characteristics.
Chemical nature of nascent metal surfaces which is one of the important active sources for tribochemical reactions was investigated using a newly developed method. Some enhanced activities were observed. For example, organic compounds chemisorbed on nascent gold surfaces and aromatic compounds decomposed on nascent nickel surfaces resulting in hydrogen evolution. Non-polar compounds such as organic sulfides had a higher chemisorption activity on nascent steel surfaces than polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates. Organic sulfides reacted directly with nascent steel surfaces and the surface was covered with metal sulfides. The activity for the chemisorption of organic compounds was closely dependent on the electronic structure of metals. Although benzene chemisorbed very easily on nascent surfaces of transition metals, it did not chemisorb ell nascent surfaces of simple metals. Boundary lubricating behaviors of extreme pressure additives were explained on the bases of the chemical activities of nascent surfaces obtained in this investigation. Under mild conditions, polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates were effective for boundary lubrication, because surfaces are covered with oxide layers. On the other hand, sulfides were more effective under severe conditions where the oxide layers were removed and the nascent surfaces were formed.
