In the course of continous work on tubers of Gastrodia elata, a new constituent was isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction prepared from the methanol extract. The structure of the compound was identified as ${\alpha},{\alpha}'-[bis-2-(5-carboxaldehydo)furanyl]-dimethyl$ ether from the elemental analytical and spectroscopic data. This compound was once isolated from Cirsium chlorolepis and named as cirsiumaldehyde. This is the first furan type compound isolated from Gastrodia elata.

We consider a general compound Poisson risk model in which the premium rate is surplus dependent. We analyze the joint distribution of the surplus immediately before ruin, the deffcit at ruin and the time of ruin by solving the integro-differential equation for the Gerber-Shiu discounted penalty function.

Carbamates are generally used as insecticide, thus 8-hydroxy-5-chloroquinolinyl-N-ethylcarbamate was newly synthesized. Its physical properties were determined and chemical structure was identified by means of IR, nmr in addition to elemental analysis. The effect of the compound on rat's ileum, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, E. coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were examined. It was observed that the dosage over 100 $\mu$g/ml of the compound relaxed rat's ileum and the same dosage of the compound inhibited growth of the above strains of bacteria.

As the economy of a country develops, the necessity for social overhead capital such as railroad, highway and other transportation infrastructures becomes an utmost issue as the volume of traffic increases. As the standard of living has been raised the needs for ecological road pavement also increase. As a matter of fact, the concrete and asphalt pavement have been constructed without considering the harmony with nature. The Road Compound pavement is constructed with local soils from optimum mixture proportions that did not contaminate the surroundings and represent the ecological pavement.

This paper deals with residual stress characteristics of ion-nitrided metal which is primarilly concerned with the effects of added carbon content in gas atmosphere. A small optimal amount of carbon content in gas atmosphere increase compound layer thickness, as well as to increase diffusion layer thickness and hardness. The residual stress and deflection of the specimens was measured in various elevated temperature at the surface of ion-nitrided metal and the internal stress distribution was calculated. It is found that compressive residual stress at the compound layer is largest at the compound layer, and decreases as the depth from the surface increases.

Interlace texturing is very useful method to make compound yarns for new synthetic fabrics. In this study, we make the compound ems for peach skin fabric by interlace texturing method. This study surveys relationship between physical properties of interlace textured yarns and process conditions such as air pressure, yarn tension and take-up speed. Nip density, tensile properties and multi-step shrinkage of the various specimens were discussed with process conditions.

A simple design method of a single balanced MMIC mixer is described. It uses small signal S11 and capacitive load for the input matching circuit and the output loading circuit, respectively. It is found that the conversion gain of the FET mixer is independent of FET gate width. The fabricated mixer has 2.5 dB conversion gain at 9 GHz with 50 ohm IF load and 2 dBm local oscillator power.

We consider a compound Poisson risk model in which the premium rate changes when the surplus exceeds a threshold. The explicit form of the ruin probability for the risk model is obtained by deriving and using the overflow probability of the workload process in the corresponding M/G/1 queueing model.

The methylated compound of ellagic acid was isolated from Potentilla chinensis (Rosaceae). The isolated compound was 3, 3', 4-tri-O-methylellagic acid, [2, 3, 7-trimethoxy-8-hydroxy[1] benzopyrano-[5, 4, 3, cde][1] benzopyran-5, 10-dione], $C_{17}H_{12}O_8$, m.p. $293-295^{\circ}C$. The isolation of trimethylellagic acid was conducted by the column chromatography and the identification of the compound was carried out by the methods of IR, NMR and MS spectroscopy.

The rhodium(II)-catalyzed reactions of diazo compound derived from Meldrum's acid with a variety of styrenes have been examined. These reactions provide a rapid route to the preparation of cyclopropanes with a variety of substituents on the benzene ring. The mechanistic pathway for the formation of these products has been also described in terms of a stepwise mechanism.
