고무상입자가 치과용 복합레진의 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향 (EFFECT OF CORE-SHELL PARTICLES ON PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF DENTAL COMPOSITES)

  • Rubber-toughened particles which are used in the field of chemical engineering are used to increase the fracture toughness of thermoset resin. The application of Core-Shell particles, one of rubber-toughened particles, as a filler for dental composite or restoration have not been examined. The purpose of this study was to evaluate possible use of Core-Shell particles for dental composite, and the hypothesis was that additional toughening mechanisms are activated by the addition of Core-Shell particles. After blending 50vol% quartz with Bis-GMA/TEGDMA resin matrix, the experimental resins were made by the addition of Core-Shell particles with varied content level as 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, and 20wt%. Fracture toughness was determined on three-point bending specimen with single-edge notch according to ASTM-E 399. Also, flexural properties, that is, strength and modulus were measured by three-point bending testing. Fractogragh of fracture toughness specimen was observed using SEM (JEOL 6400 SEM, MA). The following results from this study were obtained ; 1. Fracture toughness of composite resin added 2.5wt% Core-Shell particles was significantly higher than control group ($p{\leq}0.05$). 2. Flexural properties were decreased with increasing Core-Shell particle content, which showed a correlation statistically ($p{\leq}0.05$). 3. A toughening mechanism such as lamination and microcrack was observed in specimen determined high fracture toughness. 4. The dispersion of Core-Shell itself and quartz filler particles was limited present high content of Core-Shell particles, which decreased a resulting mechanical properties of composites. These results suggest that adequate Core-Shell particles can be used to enhance mechanical properties included toughening for dental composites.

  • Oragnic/inorganic hybrid materials prepared by sol-gel method have rapidly become a fasci nating research field in materials science. In this study, Polyimide/$\textrm{TiO}_2$ composites were synthesized from nano-sized anatase $\textrm{TiO}_2$ and two types of Polyimide (BTDA-PPD, PMDA-ODA) by Sol-gel method. Nano-sized $\textrm{TiO}_2$ particles were prepared from $\textrm{TiOEt}_4$ solution. The composites were charcaterized by using XRD, TGA, IR, TEM, and Atomic Force Microscope(AFM). $\textrm{TiO}_2$ nano particles were dispersed well in polyimide matrix and the thermal stability of polyimide was improved with $\textrm{TiO}_2$ nano-sized particles.

Effects of the Electroplating Duration on the Mechanical Property of the Ni-Co-SiC Composite Coatings

  • In this work, Ni-Co composites incorporated with nano-sized SiC particles in the range of 45-55 nm are prepared by electroplating. The effects of plating duration on the chemical composition, surface morphology, crystalline structures and hardness have been studied. The maximum hardness of Ni-Co-SiC composite coating is approximately 633 Hv at plating duration of 1 h. The hardness is gradually decreased with increasing plating duration, which can be attributed to the growth of crystalline size and the agglomerates of SiC nano-particles. It is therefore explained that the grain refinement of Ni-Co matrix and stable dispersion of SiC particles play an important role for strengthening, which indicate Hall-Petch relation and Orowan model were dominant for hardening of Ni-Co-SiC composite coatings.

Synthesization of WC/Co Composite Powders Doped V and Cr by Mechanochemical Method

  • Nano-sized WC particles in WC/Co composite powders were synthesized by mechanochemical method. The raw powders$(WO_3,\;Co_3O_4,\;VC,\;Cr_3C_2$ and graphite) were mixed by planetary milling for 30 hours. The compositions were WC-10 and -20 wt% Co added VC and $Cr_3C_2$. The direct reduction and carburization of the mixed powders were carried at $900\;^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 3 hours under flowing Ar gas. The mean size of WC particles in WC/Co composite powders was about 16 nm. The resultant powders were compacted and sintered at $1300{\sim}1360\;^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hour. After sintering the mean size of WC particles was about 50 nm.

  • [ $2.1\;{\mu}m$ ]입자경의 단분산 PBA seed를 이용한 2단계 분산중합을 seeded batch process 와 seeded semi-continuous process를 이용하여 다양한 형태의 PBA/PMMA composite 미립자를 제조하였다. Batch process의 경우 PBA/PMMA composite 입자의 모폴로지는 중합 분산매인 methanol/water 비와 중합 2단계에서의 PBA seed/MMA단량체의 비에 따라 크게 영향을 받으며, methanol/water 중합분산매중 물의 량이 증가함에 따라, 그리고 중합 2단계에서 MMA단량체량이 증가함에 따라 PBA와 PMMA간의 상분리현상이 심화되어 구형의 입자로부터 egg, snowman, confetti, peanut와 같은 비구형의 PBA/PMMA composite 입자들이 제조되었다. Semi-continuous process의 경우 단량체 부가시간을 조절함으로서 PBA/PMMA composite 입자의 모폴로지가 변함을 발견하였고 특히, 단량체의 결핍된 조건하에서 구형의 PBA(코어)/PMMA(쉘) composite 라텍스가 제조되었다.

분말시스압연법에 의해 제조된 Al/Al2O3 복합재료의 기계적 성질 (Mechanical Properties of Al/Al2O3 Composite Fabricated by a Powder-in Sheath Rolling Method)

  • The powder-in sheath rolling was applied to the fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite. A stainless steel tube with outer diameter of 12 mm and wall thickness of 1 mm was used as a sheath. Mixture of aluminum powder and $Al/Al_2O_3$ particles of which volume content was varied from 5 to 20 vol.% was filled in the tube by tap filling and then rolled to 75% reduction at ambient temperature. The re]]ed specimen was sintered at 56$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hr. The $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite fabricated by the sheath rolling and subsequent sintering showed the relative density higher than 0.96. The tensile strength of the composite increased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles, and it reached a maximum of 90 MPa which is 1.5 times higher than unreinforced material. The elongation decreased with the volume content of $Al_2O_3$ particles. It is concluded that the powder-in sheath rolling is an effective method for fabrication of $Al/Al_2O_3$ composite.

Development of Petroleum-Based Carbon Composite Materials Containing Graphite/silicon Particles and Their Application to Lithium Ion Battery Anodes

  • Herein, a novel preparation method of highly homogeneous carbon-silicon composite materials was presented. In contrast to conventional solvent evaporation method, a milled silicon-graphite or its oxidized material were directly reacted with petroleum-derived pitch precursor. After thermal reaction under high pressure, pitch-graphite-silicon composite was prepared. Carbon-graphite-silicon composite were prepared by an air-oxidization and following carbonization. From energy dispersive spectroscopy, it was observed that small Si particles were highly embedded within carbon, which was confirmed by disappearance of Si peaks in Raman spectra. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra revealed that carbon crystallinity decreased when the strongly oxidized silicon-graphite was added, which was probably due to oxygen-induced cross-linking. From the anode application in lithium ion batteries, carbon-graphite-silicon composite anode displayed a high capacity ($565\;mAh\;g^{-1}$), a good initial efficiency (68%) and an good cyclability (88% retention at 50 cycles), which were attributed to the high dispersion of Si particles within cabon. In case of the strongly oxidized silicongraphite addtion, a decrease of reversible capacity was observed due to its low crystallinity.

반응소결 물라이트를 위한 \$alpha-Al_2O_3/SiO_2$ 복합분말의 합성 및 그 특성 (Synthesis of \$alpha-Al_2O_3/SiO_2$ Composite Powders for Reaction-Sintered Mullite and its Properties)

  • From alumina powder and TEOS, $\alpha$-Al2O3/SiO2 composite powder for reaction-sintered mullite was synthesized by heterogeneous coagulation and surface coating, and investigated the mullitization reaction and sintering behavor of these powders. In $\alpha$-Al2O3/SiO2 composite powder prepared by heterogeneous coagulation, each alumina particles were surrounded by silica particles of 50~60 nm in size. And the alumina particles in composite powder prepared by surface coating were coated by uniform silica layer with thickness of 50 nm. In both methods, mullitization reaction was completed at 1$650^{\circ}C$ for 3h, and specimen sintered above 145$0^{\circ}C$ was about 95% fo the theoretical relative density. Mullite grains formed from the reaction with composite powders showed spherical shape with a size of 1~2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

산화물 분산 강화 강 분말이 첨가된 자동차 부품용 철계 복합 소재의 미세조직 및 마모 특성 (Microstructure and Wear Properties of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Steel Powder Added Steel-Based Composite Material for Automotive Part)

  • In order to expand the application of oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) steel, a composite material is manufactured by adding mechanically alloyed ODS steel powder to conventional steel and investigated in terms of microstructure and wear properties. For comparison, a commercial automobile part material is also tested. Initial microstructural observations confirm that the composite material with added ODS steel contains i) a pearlitic Fe matrix area and ii) an area with Cr-based carbides and ODS steel particles in the form of a $Fe-Fe_3C$ structure. In the commercial material, various hard Co-, Fe-Mo-, and Cr-based particles are present in a pearlitic Fe matrix. Wear testing using the VSR engine simulation wear test confirms that the seatface widths of the composite material with added ODS steel and the commercial material are increased by 24% and 47%, respectively, with wear depths of 0.05 mm and 0.1 mm, respectively. The ODS steel-added composite material shows better wear resistance. Post-wear-testing surface and cross-sectional observations show that particles in the commercial material easily fall off, while the ODS steel-added material has an even, smooth wear surface.
