  • Thick film sealing glass paste is required for cell packaging of NaS based battery for energy storage system, to join the beta-alumina electrolyte tube and the alpha-alumina battery cell cap components. This paper presents the effect of the particle sizes of seal glass powder and the sealing temperatures on the microstructure of the glass sealants was investigated. It was found that the larger in the particle size of seal glass powder, the smaller the pore volume and the number of pores in a unit area. Also, the number of pores decreased with increasing the sealing temperatures while the pore size was increased. This result enables the control of porosity, pore distribution and number of pores in a microstructure of glass sealing component by proper selection of glass powders particle size and sealing temperature.

  • Transportation culture is an inseparable part of a group's overall culture. Since the term "transportation" is directly related to vehicular movement, I would like to propose the more general term: transportation culture and use that in the following paragraphs. Transportation culture is on one hand expressed by the consumers of transportation services reflecting their overall social culture and on the other hand taken into account by transportation professionals. Ministry of Land and Transportation conducted the Transportation Culture Index, a nationally representative survey, to assess a few key indicators of the degree to which ttransportation culture is valued and is being pursued every year. In this study, recommendation for TCI are explained based on theoretical framework and changing environment.

  • Performance of digital video watermarking is an assessment that hides a lot of information in digital videos. Therefore, it is required to find a way that enables to store lots of bits of data into a high quality video of the frequency area of digital contents. Hence, this paper designs a watermarking system improving security with an enhancing watermarking based on invisible watermarking and embedding an watermarking on LH and HL subband and its subband by transforming wavelet after the extraction of luminance component from the frames of video by compromising robustness and invisible of watermarking elements. The performance analysis of security of watermarking is carried out with a statistic method, and makes an assessment of robustness against variety of attacks to invisible watermarking. We can verify the security of watermarking against variety of attacks by testing robustness and invisible through carrying out general signal processing like noise addition, lossy compression, and Low-Pass filtering.

  • Motion estimation (ME) is regarded as an important component in a video encoding process, because it consumes a large computation complexity. H.264/AVC requires additional computation overheads for fractional search and interpolation. This causes a problem that computational complexity is increased. In Motion estimation, SATD(Sum of Transform Difference) has the characteristics of a parabolic based on the minimum point. In this paper, we propose new prediction algorithm to reduce search point in motion estimation by sub-pixel interpolation characteristics. The proposed algorithm reduces the time of encoding process by decreasing computational complexity. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces 20% of the computation complexity of motion estimation, while the degradation in video quality is negligible.

  • Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), known as one of the major greenhouse gases, is an important component of the earth's atmosphere, and gives rise to precursor of acid rain and photochemical smog. For the removal of $N_2O$ and other nitrogen oxides, the SCR reaction system with various reductants is widely used. This study is based on the results of experimental and theoretical examinations on the catalytic decomposition of sole nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) and selective catalytic reduction of $N_2O$ with $CH_4$ in the presence of oxygen using mixed metal oxide catalysts obtained from hydrolatcite-type precursors. When $CH_4$ is fed together with a reductant, it affects positively on the $N_2O$ decomposition activity. At an optimum ratio of $CH_4$ to $O_2$ mole ratio, the $N_2O$ conversion activity is enhanced on the SCR reaction with partial oxidation of methane.

  • Grid connection essentially requires a wind energy conversion system (WECS) to not only supply adequate power responding to constantly varying wind speed but also provide a specified level of voltage magnitude and frequency that is acceptable in the electric power network. To satisfy such requirements, appropriate control schemes of a wind turbine to be connected to the power grid should be employed. This paper presents an output control strategy of a grid-connected wind power generation, which consists of a fixed-pitch wind turbine, a synchronous generator and a AC-DC-AC component with a voltage source inverter built in, and performs modelling and analysis of the strategy using PSCAD/EMTDC, an electromagnetic transient analysis software. Real power output control of the voltage source inverter is implemented to extract the maximum energy from wind speed inputted through wind blades and reactive power control, to keep the terminal voltage of WECS at a specific level. SPWM switching method is used to reduce the harmonics and maintain 60 ㎐ of the output frequency. The wind turbine performance and output corresponding to wind variation and the terminal load change is simulated and analysed.

  • Bisphenol A (BPA) is commonly used in the production of pharmaceutical, industrial, and housing epoxy, as well as polycarbonate plastics. Owing to its extensive use, BPA can contaminate the environment either directly or through derivatives of these products. BPA has been classified as an endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs), and the primary toxicity of these EDCs in males involves the induction of reproductive system abnormality. First, in order to evaluate the direct effects on the Y chromosome associated with reproduction, we evaluated Y chromosome abnormalities using a Y chromosome microdeletion detection kit. However, we detected no Yq abnormality as the result of BPA exposure. Secondly, we performed high-density oligonucleotide array-based comparative genome hybridization (CGH) to assess genomic alteration as a component of our toxicity assessment. The results of our data analysis revealed some changes in copy number. Seven observed features were gains or losses in chromosomal DNA (P-value<1.0e-5, average log2 ratio>0.2). Interestingly, 21 probes of chr7:7312289-10272836 (qA1-qA2 in cytoband) were a commonly observed amplification (P-value 3.69e-10). Another region, chr14:4551029-10397399, was also commonly amplified (P-value 2.93e-12, average of log2 ratios in segment>0.3786). These regions include many genes associated with pheromone response, transcription, and signal transduction using ArrayToKegg software. These results help us to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the reproductive effects induced by BPA.

  • Based on Trifuilac's empirical model to transform earthquake acceleration time history in the time domain into Fourier amplitude spectrum in the frequency domail an earthquake scaling technique for simulating the earthquake record of certain magnitude as the required magnitude earthquake was suggested. Also, using the earthquake record of magni dude(M) 5.8, the simulated earthquake of magnitude(M) 8.0 was established and its application to dynamic testing system was proposed. The earthquake scaling technique could be considered by several terms : earthquake magnitude(M), earthquake intensity(MMI), epicentral distance, recording site conditions, component direction and confidence level required by the analysis. Albo, it had an application to the various earthquake records. The simulated earthquake in this study was established by two orthogonal horizontal components of earthquake acceleration-time history. The simulated earthquake shaking could be applied to the dynamic pile load test for the model tension pile and the model compressive open -ended piles driven into the pressure chamber. In the static pile load test, behavior of two piles was very different and after model tension pile experienced 2 or 3 successive slips of the pile relative to the soil, it was failed completely. During the simulated earthquake shaking, dynamic behavior and pile capacity degradation of two piles were very different.

  • Objective: Milk fatty acid (FA) is a main nutritional component that markedly effects human health. Intentional modification of the FA profile has the potential to improve milk quality. This study aimed at the factors affecting elevated FA levels and the estimation of the genetic parameters for milk FAs in the Korean Holstein population. Methods: Total 885,249 repeated test-day milk records including, milk yield, saturated fatty acids (SFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), total unsaturated fatty acids (TUFA), fat and protein percentages were analyzed using CombiFoss FT+ system (Foss Analytical A/S, Denmark). Genetic parameters were estimated by the restricted maximum likelihood procedure based on the repeatability model using the Wombat program. Results: The FA profile varies along with the lactation and the energy balance (EB). With the negative EB in early lactation, mobilization of body fat reserves elevates the desirable FA levels. As a result of that, milk quality is increased by means of nutritionally and usability aspects during the early lactation. Moreover, heritability estimates for SFA, MUFA, PUFA, TUFA were 0.33, 0.42, 0.37, 0.41 respectively. According to the parity wise heritability analysis, first parity cows had relatively lower heritability for SFAs (0.19) than later parities (0.28). Conclusion: Genetic parameters indicated that FAs were under stronger genetic control. Therefore, we suggest implementing animal breeding programs towards improving the milk FA profile.

  • On an international scale, the burden of cancer in absolute numbers continues to increase, mainly due to aging of population in many countries, the overall growth of the world population, changing lifestyle with increasing cancer-causing behavior, like cigarette smoking, changing dietary habits and sedentary life. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death and disability in the world, after only heart disease. Recently, increasing incidence and mortality of cancer have also become evident in the developing world. In Iraq and particularly in Basrah in the southern part of the country, the burden has definitely increased and deserves extensive research. The present paper is part of an extensive household survey carried out in Basrah in 2013. Among the objectives was to validate official cancer registration in the governorate. The cross-sectional survey had a retrospective component to inquire about the incidence of cancer and cancer-related deaths during the three years preceding the date of inquiry (2010-2012). A convenient sample of 6,999 households with 40,688 inhabitants using multistage cluster sampling was surveyed involving all urban and rural areas of Basrah. The official cancer registration activities in Basrah seemed to have attained a high level of registration coverage (70-80%) but the gap, represented by missed cases, is still high enough to criticize the system. Most of the missing cases were either not notified by treating facilities or they were diagnosed and treated outside Basrah. Using a set of parameters, the pattern of cancer was consistent based on data of the household survey and data of the cancer registry but a gap still existed in the coverage of incident cancer and mortality by cancer registration. Integrated serious steps are required to contain the risk of cancer and its burden on the patient through improving the registration process, improving early detection, diagnostic and management capabilities and encouraging scientific research to explore the hidden risk factors and possible causes of low registration coverage. Periodic household surveys seemed feasible and essential to support routine registration.
